Summary: Where's Peeves?
Review: Although a bit miffed at no Peeves, and the changes I saw from the book, the movie is really a treat. The theme song was really interesting, it reminded me of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." That only thing that would make it better if it was exactly like the book, but I don't think too many people would want to see a movie that long! Oh well. I'm egarly awiting the next.

Summary: Good but not better than Lord of the Rings!!!!
Review: This is a good movie, like it a lot but I can't see how it's better than Lord of the Rings like Ebert & Roeper say. This is filled with spirit and imagination and recommend it for kids over Lord of the Rings in that fashion, otherwise I would say they're nuts. Richard Roeper says Lord of Rings ends after 3 hours and basically says "Ok see ya next time" and I can't honestly see how this doesn't do the same thing although it's not 3 hours, lol. Still it still gives you sort of the "we'll be back ending". I don't really think anything in Harry is that oscar worthy either unlike Lord of the Rings except for maybe the excellent musical score by John Williams.

Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Review: When I saw the movie I was kind of disappointed because a lot of important sceens from the book had been taken out. The directer skiped pretty much all of the middle of the book. When Harry,Hermoine, and Ron went in the room with Fluffy Harry was playing the instrument that Hagrid had given him,and when Harry passed it to Hermione, Fluffy all most woke up, but didn't. So Harry went through the trap door and landed on top of the plant and then told Ron and Hermione to come down. All this happend in the book. I'm not going to say anything else, so you guys will just have to read the book and see the move and determend wether which one you liked better. I liked the book better.

Summary: Movie vs. Book
Review: ive read all the harry potter books and now that ive seen that movie, i feel i can truly write a good review. i think that the book is better than the movie (as in many cases). if u havent read the book and want to see the movie, i advise u to first read the book, since u understand the movie a lot more then. sure its hard to cram a harry potter book into a 2 1/2 hour movie, but they did it, even though they missed out on some of the *magic*. they didnt really "show" how horrible voldemort was (in the book they stressed that), and malfoy didnt look 'mean' in the movie. my mom (who hasnt read the book) thought that the quidditch scene was too long, but since there are a few matches in the book, it makes sense to make a longer version of one match in the movie (that was one of my favorite scenes). this movie is probably best for younger children (under 13) since it went very quickly, and its not boring for that age. still, i think that movie was pretty good, and that the actress that played hermione granger was great!

Summary: In my opinion, decent at best
Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone excited me very much. I was a Potter fan, not major, not minor. Just a fan. Well, my sister, mother and I went to go see the movie two days after it was released. I was a bit excited. We sat through the movie. The whole two and a half hours. My mother and sister loved it but I had many doubts about what they said. There were a lot of things left out, some that were not very crucial to the story, some that were. I'm trying not to spoil it for you people who haven't seen it so bear with me now. Basically, most of the events from the book were either changed or left out. There was one event that was crucial to the storyline was left out. There weren't a lot, if yet any, character growth or personality development. Some of the actors didn't really "act" very well. Such as Radcliffe. He was good but not great. The only character I thought did well was Richard Harris, the man that played Dumbledore. He was terrific. Then there were the environments and animation. The environments stayed somewhat true to the book, such as the Forbidden Forest and some of the parts of the castle. Although, the creatures and magical icons seemed more mechanical. The three-headed dog and Voldemort were somewhat realistic but the troll made me puke. In my opinion, it left out TOO many things. I know it's impossible to put every single thing into the film but maybe they should have added a few more things.

Summary: Too short
Review: Yes, if the movie had stuck faithfully to every bit of the book, it would be about eight hours long, but for those of us who are fiends about the book and know it more or less by heart, there was lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots missing. That said, there are remarkable performances in the movie (I personally thought that the kid playing Harry Potter wasn't allowed to do the emotion of the book - to me one of the key lines in the book is "Harry couldn't speak, but Hagrid understood") - Maggie Smith and Robbie Coltrane in particular. But darn it, I wanted to see lots and lots and lots more.

Summary: Potter Dodders
Review: I had not read the books so I wasn't certain exactly what to expect from the movie but I was not looking to be as dissapointed as I was. The special effects were good and the direction and acting were well done but the storyline was terrible. I wouldn't want my child to watch a movie with the message this one teaches; that breeding is what determines ones ability in life. A few minutes of the movie are devoted to establishing what horrible relatives Harry has to grow up with but after that everything starts falling into his lap because of who his parents were. He has incredible power, untold wealth and in every rough situation he pretty much stands there being noble while being taken care of by the powers that be. A very old world sort of british attitude that lost them their empire.

Everything is rigged for Harry to succeed without little or no effort. In that stupid ball game the other players take risks and play hard to scratch out a few points for each goal but Harry only has to catch one ball to win the game. And wouldn't you know it, he just has an inborn knack for catching little balls. While I know it is important to give children a feeling that the world is not an unrelentingly hostile place I do think that a better message would be that they need to make an effort to accomplish things in life. This movie clearly gives the message that ones breeding is the determining factor in how well one can expect to succeed in the world. Take your kids to see Shrek, that's a movie that's got some heart, some hope and a message for the age we live in.

Summary: Oh, VERY well done!
Review: My daughter and I are definitely Harry Potter fans, and have been since the first book was published. Of course, much of the magic of the books comes from using the imagination to envision Hogwarts, the characters, the effects, etc. The movie does not disappoint the imagination. My daughter has seen it four (count 'em, four) times and wants to go again; I've seen it twice and wouldn't mind taking her. It's a truly charming movie!

For actors brand new to the business, the kids did a terrific job (even for seasoned actors, they did well). Richard Harris was excellently cast as Dumbledore, and John Hurt, though his role is small, is amazing as Mr. Ollivander (you've seen him before as The Elephant Man which, for those who don't know this, is not a kid's movie). Maggie Smith made a marvelous Prof. McGonnagal. The rest of the cast was just as good.

See this movie with your psychological child out in force, and prepare to be wonderstruck.
