Rating: Summary: A superb movie but a disappointing DVD! Review: Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the book as well as the movie but the DVD really disappointed me. I'd been expecting to see something special on DVD. But I cannot find any promised unseen scenes. All they can give are some silly stuffs on DVD 2.If you're a fan, buy the movie anyway. But I don't recommend the DVD. If you want to save some money, just get either VHS or VCD (asia).
Rating: Summary: Good Special Features! Review: (I got the DVD not in USA, but I guess the content will be the same) Okay, it is a good film, and the DVD is even greater! Firstly, there is Disc 1: Movie. You can acess trailers in this disc. Second, there is Disc 2: Special Features. You get to go around the world of Harry Potter, exploring Diagon Alley and Hogwarts. You can find a LOT of stuff, including the designs for the Quidditch pitch, etc.. THIS IS NOT IT. What is more, you can watch the Deleted Scenes (yeah!!). The price is, you HAVE to explore the Diagon Alley, Hogwarts Classrooms, the Forbidden Corridor, and THEN you get acess to the Deleted Scenes. The only bad thing is that you have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN if you wanted to see it again. That means, it won't save your memory. Too bad about this.
Rating: Summary: Excellent. Not else to say. Review: I have seen the Movie in Theater as well as in DVD.It is excellent. The features provided in DVD is really good.Tour is beautiful.
Rating: Summary: midget tribe of nee Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was the best movie i have ever seen. Drama and excitement together made this movie great. I saw it 4 times! I want to own this movie and watch it again and again.
Rating: Summary: The film is barely average - and the CD is worse! Review: I didn't discover Harry Potter until all of the first four books were already on sale, so I got to read the whole set straight off. I loved 'em. So what's wrong with the film and the CD? As far as I can tell, lack of imagination and lack of creative effort. You don't have to completely re-write a book in order to make it into a good visual production - but you do need to have some kind of "feel" for it. After watching the interviews with the director and the producer it's plain to see that they regard the whole Harry Potter thing as a production line rather than a labour of love - and it shows in the complete lack of any kind of real excitement in the film. To my mind, the best scene in the whole film is Harry's meeting with Voldemort in the woods - and that only lasts a very few minutes. The rest of the film, as other reviewers have said, is technically faithful to the original text. And that's about the best you can say of it! The double CD is a joke, the UK website isn't even finished! (The "name your owl" feature, for example, is still under construction). And I'm still trying to find the much publicised "never-before-seen footage" feature. In short, if you're new to Harry Potter, and preferably under the age of 12, you might really enjoy this package. Otherwise, I think you're going to just be very glad you didn't pay full price for it!
Rating: Summary: It's good, but not as good as... Review: The "Harry Potter" movie suffered for coming out shortly before "Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring". HP is a good, entertaining, enjoyable family movie, and true to the book (perhaps a bit too much so) - unfortunately for it LotR turned out to be a truly magnificent film which not only captured the essence of its book but showed how you could transfer it to the big screen and be faithful to it while tightening and speeding things up. As both of these films are merely the first in series it seems likely that poor Harry and Hogwarts will be continue to be overshadowed by Middle Earth. This is rather a pity - one can enjoy both, after all. Yes, the DVD of the film itself is good, though the second one with its various extras (including a few - all too few -cut scenes) really is badly laid out and difficult to navigate. Poor Harry has also suffered a bit, from what we hear on this side of the pond, from the attention of people who think he is anti-Christian. How a story of the power of redeeming love to overcome evil can be this I really don't know. A couple of anti-Potter websites I've seen quote one of the characters who says "there is no good or evil, only power" as if this represents JK Rowling's viewpoint. In fact those words are uttered by the main bad character against whom Harry and the forces of good are battling. Wasn't there something in the Bible about not bearing false witness, chaps?
Rating: Summary: Style over Substance? Review: I enjoyed the film a lot and I expected a lot from the DVD (also considering the fact that WB boasts that the DVD will be unlike any other), but, I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with it. The film was fine, except, of course, the lack of audio commentary by the Director/Producer or the actors themselves. It was the second disc that bugged me a lot. I was lead to believe that there are tons of behind-the-scene flicks and production notes on the bonus disc but, to my horror, there weren't many. Oh, sure, there are the deleted scenes (which they didn't even incorporate to the film, unlike what Star Wars the Phantom Menace did) and an interview with the Director, Producer and Script Writer, but aside from those, the extras were really lame. You have to "play" your way around the disc in order for you to view the deleted scenes which is an original concept, but, quite frustrating after several turns. There are your screensaver, game demos, remembrall, potion-challenge and your virtual tour of Hogwarts (which was quite good but still lacking). Anyway, I was hoping to get a glimpse of the usual stuff--production notes, behind-the-scenes, interview with the actor, audition clips, costume design, creature design, the CG of Harry Potter, outtakes, etc. Stuff that really mattered. I wanted to get a glimpse of what it was to be on the set of Harry Potter, the opinion of the actors, anything about the MOVIE ITSELF. But what I got is a compilation of flash-type games that are not only annoying, but quite a nuance as well. One word summary: gimmicky. Sorry Harry. The only reason I gave it three stars is that I'm a big HP fan. If not for that, I'd probably give it a 2 or a 1.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter - Good against Evil Review: As in all good against evil movies, our heros win against evil in the world of scorcerers and witches. Wow! What a game! Quidditch, what an imagination the author had. So fast paced and interesting. Loved Haggard. Great movie! It kept the adults in this family interested. I say thumbs up and can't wait for the next on to come out. ...
Rating: Summary: Fails to enchant Review: Before I start, let me assure you that this isn't a "my wizard is better than your wizard" rant. But, considering that Rowling's work was just the Lord of the Rings re-written (and a much less quality work). Yes, I know. I'm going to get "not helpful" votes. But I'm just pointing it out. Now, don't get me wrong. I enjoy Harry Potter, and, no, I don't think it's evil. However, it can't be ignored that Dumbledore is just an underdeveloped Gandalf with glasses. Dementors are simply Black Riders with rotted hands. Anyone who has read Lord of the Rings will know what I'm talking about. They look the same, and have the same effect on people as Black Riders. In the Lord of the Rings, Sauron is referred to as "He whom we will not name". Sound familiar, anyone? I'm not saying that Rowling has no original ideas, but I am saying that she should recognize where she got the basis for them.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: The books consumed by time - commuting on the tube, 5 minute breaks at work and wrapped up cosily in my duvet deep into the night. The film, I am pleased to say, was just as seductive in pulling me away from normal life, depositing me in the gothic romance of Hogwarts with Harry and his friends. The books transcended the ages here - it was my 56-year old father who introduced them to me - and the film was as eagerly received by 60-year olds as by toddlers. The actors portray Harry et al with the same naughtiness and courage as their alter-egos in JK Rowling's books (Hermione was particularly good) - the effects were, of course, manadatory and the quidditch game was brought to life on screen extremely well. It is wonderful to see British talent in a world outside of Hughtopia. While London is unmistakably dry-witted and floppy-haired, it is pleasing to see a different aspect of the national character (strength, solidarity and intellect) translated onto the silver screen. Moreover, it is wonderful knowing that the film will encourage more people to read. That can never be a bad thing...
