Summary: Nice Blast from the Past
Review: I was anxiously awaiting this DVD's arrival to revisit the Land of the Lost. I dearly loved watching this show as a kid and wanted to share the same experience with my own kids. It was great watching the Marshall family, Chaka and the Sleestacks again. At first my kids didn't care for the "special effects" of the 70's but soon we were all watching and laughing at the graphics, fake scenery and dinosaurs and how much things have changed. It was a nice "blast from the past" and was glad to pass it on to my own kids. I also enjoyed the interviews with the grown actors of "Holly" and "Chaka"

Review: If you were a child of the 70's like me, you'll love this DVD. I've heard that Rhino is going to release a complete set of the first season on DVD, can't wait if that is true.

Summary: Retort to previous reviews- Land of the Lost
Review: Im a little confused by the reviewer who claims to have watched the show along with G.I. Joe, Transformers ect., since Land of the Lost was a show that aired during the seventies,and the aforementioned shows were mainly eighties fare! must be another crude and crass attempt to exploit all things "retro". For those of you who actually watched the show in the seventies, this dvd is recommended and I do not know of a series compliation that is available or forthcoming at this time. I disagree with those who claim the show was a shoddy production at best. The show had some great storylines with some classic sci-fi/fantasy elements written into the script,- dimensional doorways, parallell worlds, aliens, lost worlds, and of course ravenous prehistoric beasts!The stories are not overburdened with trite "moral" commentary like so many youth shows of the seventies and even today contain.(Remember after school specials?, yeccch!)The acting is not corny and the actors give a perfectly suitable performance that is very much enjoyable. The special effects are easy to criticize in comparison to todays standards, but given the era, budget and other factors the shows creators had to deal with at the time, I think it can be excused, besides as a kid your imagination easily filled in the gaps back then.I must admit, Before I got the dvd, I was expected to be dissapointed after all these years, but to my surprise I throughly enjoyed every episode,including the vhs releases, but be aware if you purchase the dvd you will only need vhs volumes 3 and 4, my only complaint is that there are not more available.

Summary: Good episodes of a great show
Review: LOTL (us SF/media fen loooove to make up acronyms) was a classic example of a show that made up for its low sf budget with strong stories. Yes, the sets were crepe paper and plaster. Yes, the dinosaurs were just a hair above Davey and Goliath in animation realism. But the UNIVERSE, the characters that inhabited it, and the things they inhabited got nicely filled out over the course of the show. Fans of the show could argue for hours over whether or not there was really a connection between the Pylons and the mysterious Skylons, and don't get us STARTED on whether Sleestak *really* taste like lobster...I'm always on the fence when it comes to video collections of old shows. Do you go in chronological order and release the whole series (So help me, we have a friend whole bought EVERY VOLUME of the Dark Shadows tapes) or go for a "best of" pick-and-choose strategy? Well, the brothers Krofft went the latter route and picked four episodes from all over the series. We get a good early look at Chaka and the rest of the Pakuni, the first appearance of Enik (I still think it's spelled "Enoch"...go look up your mythology) and a couple of good dino battles. I don't care what you say, Big Alice could kick Grumpy's scaly hinder any day of the week. The female of the species, don't you know. Yeah, I'd've gone for the first appearance of Dopey, but that's me. I got to talk with Marty Krofft some years back when the new Land of the Lost premiered. He suggested that there may have been some connection between the two shows-the same place, two eras, or something. It's a testament to the staying power of the original that this little tidbit actually got me interested in the new show. Not for long tho. The original is still the winner. Vinnie, still pining in vain for Superchick from Captain Kool and the Kongs (Nashville was always too boorish for me...)

Summary: For series fans of 'Land of the Lost'....
Review: Some people might be tempted to bypass this collection of 'Land of the Lost' episodes now that the complete first season of 'Land of the Lost is available. I advise any die-hard fans of the series, especially Kathy Coleman to reconsider. Even though all of the episodes of this edition are also in the complete first season collection, this edition contains an interview with Kathy Coleman (Holly) and Phil Paley (Cha-Ka) that is well worth the cost of the DVD alone. Just my opinion.

Summary: Excellent science fiction series
Review: The Land of the Lost was an excellent science fiction series-- especially given that it aired on a Saturday morning. Granted, the third season wasn't as good as the first two, with writers ignoring much of the internal logic that had previously been established, but even the third season was better than much of the Saturday morning fare today. To clear up some misconceptions about the series, the Marshall family did not travel back in time; they fell through a time doorway which transported them to a small, closed universe, which included, among other things, three moons in the sky. In this small universe, a balance was maintained. In order for anyone to enter, the same number of people had to leave (and vice versa). The presence of the dinosaurs (one of the attractions of the show for many) may be why people think the Marshalls went to Earth's past. But other features, such as the Lost City and the pylons, which TARDIS-like are bigger on the inside than the outside, are signs of a highly advanced culture; one, which we later learn, built the Land of the Lost. The pylons controlled the environment of the land, and some contained time doorways leading to other dimensions. Oh, and for the record, the dinosaur named "Alice" is called that because she's an allosaur. It's a nickname. There was a later version of Land of the Lost in 1992, and while it had better effects and slightly better acting, the original was "Masterpiece Theatre" by comparison. While the original Land of the Lost does have some flaws, it at least had interesting scripts and looked like it was another world; and it had a certain quality to it that the remake-- which was filmed in some park-- lacked. There are currently eight episodes available on video, with four of them re-released to DVD. Like I said, the Land of the Lost isn't perfect (though many of the eight episodes available are considered among the better ones, especially "The Stranger", "Elsewhen" and my personal favorite, "Circle") but it's better than a lot of the stuff on today.

Review: Thes videos have no equal in their creativity and humor. I watched them growing up, and every saturday morning I relive the experience by watching this with my family. A worthy addition to any TV fans collection.

Summary: for the memories
Review: This show along with H.R. Puf n' Stuf and Sigmund and the Seamonsters and a few other Sid & Marty Krofft shows are standouts in my childhood memory of saturday morning cartoons,along with Schoolhouse Rock, but thats another story.As for the three aforementioned Sid & Marty Krofft shows ,these are great for reliving your childhood once in a while.Unless you have small children stick with these small packages instead of the entire series sets.Believe me you won't watch them enough.As for the reviewer wondering why someone remembered watching land of the lost in the same group as transformers.They weren't remembering the original series.There was a short lived remake of the show about fifteen or so years after this one.

Summary: GREAT! BUT WAIT FOR THE BOX SET!
Review: This show is a classic and a must to own! BUT WAIT FOR AMAZON.COM TO RELEASE THE BOX SET!!! Rhino Home Video has also released the COMPLETE SEASON BOX SET. SO DON'T JUST BUY THIS DVD! Why have only a couple of episodes.....WHEN YOU CAN HAVE THEM ALL!!! I love this show....it's the ONLY SID and MARTY KROFT show I can even stand to watch! I grew up watching this show along with Transformers, G.I. Joe, etc, etc. It's great that Rhino Hame Video is bringing these great shows to DVD!
I'll buy 'em all!!! As should you....So they keep releasing more of these great sets!

Summary: Land of the Lost lives on ;-)
Review: This television show is the essence of my childhood without a doubt. Back when it aired in the mid 70's I was only about 6 years of age, wearing green pajamas that covered my legs and feet and I walked around the house thinking I was a Sleestack. Every weekend in the morning I loved watching this show, it had awesome stories with mysterious caves and magical colored crystals. I'm glad that I found this DVD at amazon.com to purchase last week. I couldn't wait for it to arrive and when it did I introduced my 8-year-old niece to this show by watching these 4 episodes with her and she is hooked, as I am and will always be. I wish to purchase them all and I'm looking forward to obtaining them when they're available. This DVD is well worth the purchase, I just wish it had more episodes on it. Thanks Amazon.com for helping me buy a piece of my childhood.
