Summary: Professional YES
Review: This lovely piece of production equipment is a valued part of my entire NLE system. It works wonderfully and I have had problem zero with the unit. It plays all of my CD's very well including the VCD's that I create from my Mac! Great product - I highly recommend the extra dime to spend for this product... Great day, Steven Fiorenza, Pres Stefio Video & Audio Productions.

Summary: AWESOME PLAYER!
Review: This Panasonic RP56 is not only the best player (or one of the best players) out there for the price, but over all it's one of the best! The picture quality is outstanding; it plays audio CDs just as good as any CD player, especially the CD-Rs and CD-RWs, which some DVD players have difficulty reading!! The controls are user-friendly and easy. It's a compact and lightweight space saver!! Overall, a big winner!!!

Summary: Good while it works.
Review: This player has garnered huge reviews mainly because of it's image quality which is very good, but like many other people have said durability is seriously lacking here. If I didn't know better I'd say that Panasonic built this player like this on purpose. They obviously cut many corners building this device. For one the plastic is [inexpensive]. The slightest drop and your player is no longer a player anymore. No effort was put into the remote. It's just as [inexpensive] as the player itself. The player itself gives very good picture quality, but for whatever strange reason it won't read all your DvDs. The first time I got it, it wouldn't even read my CastAway disc. And now most of my discs that were playing flawless now look choppy and unwatcheable. Many times the audio and the video are completely out of sync. The video looks scratched and jerky. And after repeat viewings the quality only seems to deterioate. It's as if the movies are aging right in front of my eyes. And as you should know, DVDs don't age! (not like VHS anyway).

I was very impressed with the picture quality of this player at first. That was until all these problems started to pop up. It offers good image quality but it won't last for long.

Summary: Capable but Cheap build or defect in drive
Review: This was a great unit, while it lasted. I was amazed at the picture quality and progressive output of this tiny player and I though I got a real bargain .... A little more than a year later the drive mechanism started to fail. It took forever to eject a disk and eventually the drive could not load and track a DVD. I would have giving it a 1 but I may have just got a bad one. Still it indicates a [poor] drive which can't be good.

Summary: Same experience: mine broke after 2 yrs
Review: what a piece of JUNK! We got ours on in early December and it lasted until mid Feb. In less than 90 days, we got the dreaded "H02" error. We replaced it, got the same error code on the new one. I will NEVER waste my time or money on a Panasonic product again. We actually had better luck with an Emerson. It may be a "Blue-light special" and doesn't have all the cool bells and whistles, but it worked for several years and didn't cost nearly as much! (by the way, don't even bother trying to get Panasonic to help. They apparantly don't like dealing with customers' needs)

Summary: DVD RP56 H02 ERROR
Review: WITH LITTLE USE THIS UNIT WENT FROM PAUSE MODE TO STOP AND THEN BEGAN TO DISPLAY AN H02 ERROR WHENEVER A NEW DISC IS INSERTED.

VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH RESPONSE FROM PANASONIC.

WILL HAVE TO TRY ANOTHER BRAND...

Summary: RP56 stunning but little flaws
Review: With the Farouja decoder chip, the RP56 displays the best picture in this price category. It's just smooth and film-like, however the remote buttons are not lighted, small, and mushy so a stiff push is needed. Ergonomics is Panasonic's downfall - the eject button is just above the play button and all are small. You cannot change between progressive and interlace modes from the remote - need to hit button on the player.

If your 16x9 HDTV locks in FULL mode with a progressive output, the RP56 cannot zoom or change aspect ratios and a 4x3 or non-anamorphic (not enhanced for 16x9) picture will look squashed. You turn progressive output off to view it properly but you lose the progressive quality.

The useless jog dial is only on the player - FF and review require several button pushes. Also my 4 year old Sony S3000 would pick up playing from the same spot if you hit STOP. With this unit, you hit a button on the remote and then you need to power it off. When you turn on later, it will resume.

Picture is gourgeous, price is right, design of the remote is absolutely terrible. I tested some MP3s and they play really well. Despite my complaints, I've kept mine. It has not skipped or missed a beat with everything thrown at it.
