Summary: BE AWARE
Review: BUYERS, BE AWARE.
I had 2 DVD players made by Pioneer. They are nice machines... for a little over a year. Then the warranty expires. The problem these players seem to have has to do with poorly designed dual laser pick up (one - for DVDs, the other one - for CDs and Video CDs). The first player I had stopped playing CDs and Video CDs, I got the other one - this one stopped playing DVDs.
On the positive side - the picture is very good, so if you are after a short-term buy go ahead, otherwise look for another brand.

Review: How can a customer review a product he or she doesn't own? Granted that the criticism seems to be based entirely on the two year warrenty, which another reviewer seems to think is far too short for such an expensive DVD player. If an electronic product is going to go on the fritz, then it's going to happen in far less than two years. You can always buy extended coverage if you want it.
As for the unit, I have had mine for over two years, and it has been in daily use for that entire time. Everything works as well as the day I bought it. The picture clarity is excellent (as you would expect from a DVD player), but it's in the audio section where the beauty of the DV-09 really shines. There is a clear and obvious difference in the sound this unit can produce (assuming that the rest of your system is up to the challenge) which far outshines the competition. I don't have to list the technical data; you can read that for yourself. The bottom line is that you can hear the difference.
If you're looking for an "affordable" DVD player, you're probably not a high-end user and should look elsewhere. But if you have a top-quality amplifer, cables, and speakers, then you owe it to yourself to have one of these. Anything less is second best. It's not called "elite" for nothing. I'm glad I bought mine and would buy another one without hesitation if the need arose.

Summary: Outstanding unit! An incredible piece of hardware.
Review: How can someone review this without ever owning one? I bought a Pioneer 50" Plasma TV, and I had a very nice mid-range Sony DVD player. The video output wasn't quite what I had hoped for, so I tried out this Pioneer unit. I purchased a great set of cables to connect it to the BNC inputs on the tv, and WOW what a difference!

The difference was as noticable to me as when I changed from VHS to DVD a couple of years ago. This unit is definitely for people who have a TV along the quality lines of a good plasma screen... I could feel the pit of my stomach bottom out when I was watching the fugitive and they panned down to show the dropoff at the dam. That sure didn't happen in the theatre...

The audio quality is also fantastic.

If you have audiophile-level components, then this is THE addition to your system. Pioneer Elite has been creating some incredible products these days, and this is by far one of their best products.

Summary: how much is it???
Review: I didn't buy this but I had to comment. How can they only give you a two year warranty on a seventeen hundred dollar dvd player?? Just exactly how long is the unit good for? I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a dvd player even if I won the lottery.

Review: I purchased the dv-09 in November of 1999. Within 2 months it was at the shop. I had to wait a painful 3 months to have it replaced. The system board was fried...nothing but a standby light.
Two years and one month later...the same thing happened. I am very upset that a ($$$$) unit would go out like this. I am still waiting from Pioneer in response to my email.

You may be better off getting a cheaper model and replacing it every 2 years! Although the picture and quality of the system was top notch...the boards on these players are not.

Review: If you're into DVD's, this machine is as good as it gets!!! Not only is it the best DVD player you can own, but it's an incredible CD player. Usually a DVD player is meant strictly for Movie watching, but with this georgeous marvel, you also get a high end CD player. Your CD's will sound incredible!! Not only are the internal components of this DVD player top notch, but the unit looks like art. It's high gloss black finish with Rosewood sides will make your friends drool with envy. If you have the dough, this is the DVD player to get. Shop around for the best deal.

Summary: Pioneer DV-09
Review: The DV-09 was awarded Stereophile's prestige's "Product of the year award" as well as many others and is in a class all its own for performance and reliability. Anyone that would post a negative review about a product that is widely regarded as the reference standard for progressive scan DVD players (In other words that which all others are measured against) is just plain ignorant. Please know what you are talking about or at the very least own one before posting a review. As far as reliability, every electronic manufacturer in the industry and yes even the most reliable experience some out of box failure rates. The DV-09 has been used commercially under everyday continues use i.e. writing comparison reviews since its introduction and has withstood the test of time. It is all the more reliable in a home environment.
