Summary: It Quit after 9 months
Review: After very light usage during the past 9 months, it suddenly quit working. Philips will replace it for a "Reasonable" charge...plus... shipping charge after I send it to them via UPS at my cost. I'm tempted to just dump it with a note saying "PARTS ONLY" to a second hand store and get a different kind, brand new from Amazon... I can't see paying [this money] every 9 months just to keep replacing a faulty DVD player.

Summary: Worst Choice I Made Buying This
Review: All I can say is that I am very displeased with this item. I purchased one of these Dvd players in October, got it and set it up, picture and color faded in and out. From my experience with this product I would advise you to look at other players and not purchase this one.

Summary: Works fine but sensitive to dirty/scratched discs
Review: I bought this DVD player as my second one to use in my bedroom. Overall, I'm quite happy with its quality in both audio and video. It's not a high-end model but I believe it would serve your need well if you just want to switch from VHS to digital to get a much better audio/video signals. This player has also the capability of playing CDR and CDRWs that can't be found in other similar players. It's surely a plus. Only one drawback I found with this DVD player is that it seems too sensitive to dirty/scratched discs. If you intend to watch DVDs from rental places like NetFlix.com watch out for those old and scratched discs due to heavy usage.I'd like to mention that it's hard to detect the differences in quality between this DVD player and others in the same price range if you don't have high-end stereo/video systems hooked up with it. In conclusion, except you do have expensive high-end audio/video systems, this DVD is a good buy.

Review: I bought this DVD player... and have to say I love it. I've used it almost everyday and have not had one problem with it and have even compared it to some other, more expensive DVD players that friends have and have to say, if you don't mind the lack of a DTS digital decoder for sound (has digital sound output, but no decoder) or a component output (S-Video & composite outputs only on this model) then you'll be very happy with this one.
The greatest feature is the 4 disc resume play function, which means you can stop a DVD take it out play up to 3 other DVD's, then put the original DVD back in and the player gives you the option of starting the movie from the point you stopped it from before.
Alot of my friends don't have this function on their player and they all wish they did. Regardless which brand you buy, be sure to look for the resume play feature. It's very useful if you don't have time to finish an entire movie in one sitting or if you get interrupted during a film and have to stop it.
Also, this model plays CD's & CDR's which is nice if you have a cd burner and make your own cd's.

Summary: Broke within 1 month
Review: I had problems with this machine almost from the start.First started malfunctioning within the first month, by the 2nd month stopped working entirely.It started with it shuting off the dvd in the middle of it playing and ended when it shut down a dvd and then makes a little noise and there is no response to any buttons pushed. Have to hassle with shipping for repairs now. Shipping electronic products may be the problem instead of the product itself I dont know for sure but my past experiences with UPS has been horrific, They seem to go out of their way to try and destroy their shipments.

Summary: Worst investment ever made
Review: I had the same problem as the other reviewer in this section. The damn thing just stopped working. It goes to show you that Philips doesnt know a damn thing about "Quality". Why should I go through the trouble of returning a piece of crap. This was maybe the worst decision I have ever made trying to save a buck. Trust me it's worth spending that extra [money] to get a top quality brand ie,"Sony".

Summary: NO Optical Digital output!
Review: I have no opinion on the performance of this unit since I required the optical digital output to complete the installation of this unit to my receiver. (My receiver has one coaxial digital-audio input which is already occupied by the cable TV's signal but two unused optical digital-audio inputs). The specs for this unit promises an optical digital-audio output, but this DVD player has none.

Summary: Great Basic DVD Player !
Review: I just bought this dvd player one month ago and i have'nt experienced any problem at all. The sound quality is good and acceptable even if you don't have a dolby/dts receiver. The picture quality looks great even when you see it on a regular TV. This is great basic dvd player with good value and neat performance, so stop looking for other brands and buy this dvd player now!
