Rating: Summary: Konka conquers high prices with value & features Review: Konka electronics has proven to be a leader in the highly sought after consumer electronics market and gives customers top quality products that are deeply discounted compared to other name brand products with similar features. Their reputation is excellent, and if the public only knew how far their dollar could stretch with their products, Konka would be a household name. This DVD player has a sleek appearance and its functions/operation is top notch. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Rating: Summary: No Worries for a first time DVD purchase Review: Great system. This is my first DVD and I bought it based on the editroial review here on Amazon more than anything else. I have had it about 2 months and have played 9 or 10 Hollywood Video rentals on it. It has never skipped or done anything weird. My only suggestion for those that have your typical 27 inch television is that the Konka doesn't have the feature that allows you to turn a wide screen DVD movie into a normal screen DVD. The DVD itself has to have the option to play in both format. If the DVD you rent doesn't have that option, and you watch it on a standard television, you get stuck watching the movie with a big black space above and below the movie. I think some of the other DVD players have a feature which expands the screen and still gives you the same quality. Otherwise it is awesome. The controller is easy to use. My only complaint on the controller is that the fast forward buttons are at the top and the play button is at the bottom (which doesn't make alot of sense). By the way, the instruction booklet was obviously written by someone with English as their second language. It's pretty funny to read. Enjoy it.....
Rating: Summary: This is a great all-round DVD player. Review: This machine plays DVD GREAT! The playback is superb and one of the greatest features is that it plays CD-R and VCD, so you can use your computer to burn your own movies and then play them. I don't know why this is so cheap, but it a great player!
Rating: Summary: very good Review: this was my first step into the dvd world and i must say that i'm pleased with this product. Everything is fairly easy to use and the quality is great. My only complaint is that I heard there was a zoom feature, but i can't seem to find it. If anybody knows please email me. All and all, though, a good buy
Rating: Summary: Well what can I say.... Review: Some huge compatibility issues with this player. If you have a sony tv stay away from it. I try to turn up the volume on it and the picture freezes but it is still playing, at that point the unit is locked up and you have to turn it off and them back on for it to work. If you can get around that issue.. the picture quality is great, yes the remote is a little slow in responce but for 200 bucks you probably didnt expect this much
Rating: Summary: Impressive! Review: This DVD Player is great! Although when it arrived it didn't exactly look like the picture displayed. It apprears to be all silver, but the only silver part is the face plate, the rest is gray. I did a lot of research before I decided on the Konka. The set-up was easy, the machine is quite, and the picture and sound is great! I don't have dolby digital, I still a pro-logic surround sound, so I can image how much better it will sound when I do upgrade to digital. The remote control was the only glitch, it sometimes has a delayed response. But for the price, the quality is exceptional. I am glad I didn't spend a lot more money for a brand that I am familiar with, like Sony or Panasonic. This DVD Player has all the features one needs. So far, I am very satisfied with this product. I would recommend it to anyone who is not willing to spend a lot of money. It also has other features not mentioned. It does support DTS and it has extra audio and video outlets. The first DVD I played was the Matrix, because I heard from people that some DVD Players have trouble playig that particular disc. It was flawless. Konka definatley did their homework.
Rating: Summary: Few glitches...great value Review: While there are a few glitches of this unit, largely related to the responsiveness of the remote control, overall it is an excellent value and great entry device into DVD.
Rating: Summary: Good value in a low-end unit. Review: The Konka KD1800 is exactly what is purports itself to be; a budget-priced, reliable, low-end DVD player. The 'low-end' tag applies more to the units electronic response than to its sound or video reproduction. The Konka is simple to install, using either analog or digital connections. It produces a high quality video image and very impressive sound. There are a variety of fancy visual options which will intrigue some users but probably be ignored by most, such as the variable view angle capability. The only significant drawback to the KD1800U1 is its extremely slow response to the remote. As almost all of the control features are on the remote, this can be quite a nuisance. The functions are reliable and perform as advertised, they simply take forever to activate. If this is the only problem that manifests itself, however, it is a small price to pay for the dollar savings in the purchase price. The final determination on any video system should be the quality of the image it provides. In that area, the Konka is superb. The DVDs I have viewed have been everything I expected. They are clean, stable, and visually impressive. In a word, the visual product is excellent. If you want a high-end electronic toy with which to manipulate your DVDs, this unit is not a good choice. However, if you want a DVD player so that you can enjoy the visual clarity and dynamic sound of DVDs, there is no reason to spend more money. The Konka KD1800U1 will satisfy your needs.
Rating: Summary: Superb Build Quality Review: I stand by Amazon.com's review of Konka's 1800U. This is an excellent DVD player -- at any price. Build quality is superb. I've lived with the 1800U in my system for a couple of months now, playing music CDs and movies nighlty, without any problems whatsoever. I have reviewed dozens of DVD players, beginning with the format's public debut in 1997, when I was executive editor of Home Theater magazine. If the 1800U had been introduced three years ago, it would have been considered a bargain at $499. As for alleged problems, unless a pattern emerges, be cautious when reading comments about isolated incidents. Does the "customer" actually own the product in question, or are they merely speculating? Do they have an axe to grind? Do they have ulterior motives (e.g. store owners or sales reps who don't sell that particular brand)? Consumer electronics is a highly competitive business. Konka poses a threat, not merely because their products are affordable, but because they are extremely well-built.
Rating: Summary: Konka DVD Review: All I wanted was a basic DVD unit for playback. I have a 32" Sony hooked up to a standard component stereo system. The Konka unit delivers superior reproduction of sound and video with all the functions I could ever want. As a matter of fact, I am trying to figure out what it is the expensive units do that this one doesn't. However, there are 3 small problems. 1. I can't turn the unit on with the remote control. I have to turn it on at the player itself, even if the red-light is lit. 2. Response to the remote is slow, sometimes causing me to punch the buttons again and again (I don't need to; it will eventually accept any legitimate command). But if I repeatedly enter the same command, it will.... 3. Respond with the on-screen warning "invalid operation". Which will sometimes go away and sometimes freeze up the unit. Pushing the command buttons in the wrong sequence will also sometimes cause the same problem. Experience with the remote will solve almost all the minor annoyances of 2 and 3. I would recommend it to a friend, but I would tell them about the software-like learning curve. I am happy with the unit, but also wanted to tell others what they might expect. Also, the aluminum case is quite attractive. The player is solid. It is easy to hook-up PM
