Summary: Filled with UPS and Downs!
Review: I bought this DVD player last Christmas from a department store. I always liked RCA. I had no problems with the DVD for a few months and I liked it, it had good features but missed zoom, and the menu screens were easy to get around and the glossry was a nice touch. But then it started making a high pitch noise that sometimes became louder than the movie I was plaing on my Dolby Digital theather system I used. Then the Disk Tray would not come out the whole way and would get stuck. It made noise from the beggining but this noise was crazy. The manufcr. would not do anything for me. I would have to pay for the shipping to get it fixed and for labor. I did not get it fixed and am currently shopping for a new one with a better Rep. I don't recommend shopping for the lowest price. Because the most important thing is not features, but if it works and if the thing breaks, is the warranty going to help you if it is not just a 90 day or one year parts. Look around, Buy smart!

Summary: My first DVD player, but not my last.
Review: The RCA RC5220P DVD-Video Player is good for its price. I want to get that fact out of the way before going into the ups and downs of this nicely crafted yet slightly flawed piece of equipment. The good things: Dolby and DTS outputs which sound crisp and clear, picture quality that fits the DVD standard mold, and the ability to change subtitles and audio, while jumping to different places in the movie, all without having to revert to the original menu on the disc. The player also includes Divx ability, a dictionary for all those technical terms you won't find in a Webster, and easy-to-use setup menus that are easily self-explanatory. The bad things: the speed going through menus is a bit sluggish, especially in newer, more comprehensive releases, and it has been known to shut itself off once in a while. But, if all you're looking for is a machine to play your movies on, as well as durability and features galore, then this is a DVD player that is sure to please its owner.

Summary: I love this DVD player
Review: I bought a RCA 5220P DVD player last year. It has been working great since bought. Every one in my family loves it. When my relatives and my friends came to my house and they watched and listened DVDs and CDs with my DVD player, they said that it worked perfectly, and many of them also bought this model.

Summary: My RCA DVD is a great value
Review: I've had my RCA for 5 months and have no troubles with it. It is true it won't play CD-R. The only trouble with locking up, pixelating, freezing and not starting have all been with rented movies. I keep good care of the DVDs I own and have no problems with them. I have it hooked up to an RCA dolby digital surround reciever. The optical output on the back puts out amazing audio (can't tell real sounds around me from the movie). The matrix works without a flaw on the RCA. Before i bought it the sales man told me that any brand associated with GE, or cheaper would not play the Matrix. I would have to agree with the review about the quality control at RCA though, because all the reviews I've read have either been really good or really bad. I recommend the player.

Summary: Should have known better
Review: I got this player because I have an RCA TV that only has a coaxial cable input and a stereo that would only handle virtual surround. Since I'd only had the TV for a year, I wasn't going to buy a new one to accomodate a DVD player, so I settled for a basic unit (the RC5220P) with a converter for "digital" movie enjoyment. The 4:3 display has never been good. Image quality has been tolerable. After a brief 2 years of service, the video card just quit and service will cost at least half as much as a new player. Hmmm...wonder if I should get a new RCA player?

Summary: worst product ever
Review: I purchased this product last year for my husbands birthday and we have had nothing but trouble ever since. When we first set it up we used it a couple of times and it stopped working. My husband had to send it back to RCA to get it replaced at least twice before he complained that he didn't think it was packaged properly. It finally came packaged properly and worked, for about 6 months. 2 weeks ago it completely stopped in the middle of a movie and hasn't worked since. You've got to be kidding me.
This is the biggest waste of money and time ever!! It's a total disgrace.

Summary: Worked great for 2 years
Review: This dvd player was more affordable than most at the time, so we bought it. It has been reliable and served us well. Now, 2 years into it, we are having serious skipping problems and freezing problems. It has always run a bit of a temperature, as discs are very warm to the touch when removing them from the unit. CD's only work if they are factory burned (not CD-R), and come out of the unit rather warm as well. Good entry level unit, recommend getting a killer warranty plan along with it and also getting for a great markdown price!!

Summary: Uhhh... It was kinda worth the money
Review: I bought this DVD player a few years ago. It usually works, but can be finicky about whether it will work or not. Occasionally, it gave a NODISK error, but I think this was due to heating or the player not being level, because I moved it, and it seems to work all the time now.

The menu is a bit cludgy compared to "modern" DVD players, and switching to using captions still bewilders me from time to time.

Overall, when it works, its a nice DVD player, ... (better than videotape, at least). It works with DVDR, which is pleasing!

Summary: Never Had A Problem. You won't know the difference...
Review: I have had this DVD player for more than a year. It has never ever froze or shut itself off on me. It comes with lot's of features and I don't notice anything at all wrong with the picture quality. I noted that one review said it was sluggish when going through menu's. Hadn't noticed that either. It may have something to with the way that person set up his entertainment system. I don't know. We have a digital cable box and our stereo with speakers all hooked up to our television and haven't noticed anything wrong. I think this is a good way to go if you want a quality DVD player.
