Summary: Not a bad player for the money
Review: I bought this unit from Costco for [$] hoping that it can play copied VCDs, and it can! The DVD picture quality is good, and I have not experienced any audio dropping after I a forward/backward/pause function. BTW, it can only forward/backward at 2X. If you need a basic unit, this is a good buy. (I haven't tried the MP3 function yet.)

Summary: DVD702 Review
Review: It's almost as if Phillips produced a mystery product, (not much info. available) but so far, we like the DVD player. As far as the mp3 playback, it's great! However, there are a few limitations: files must have an .mp3 extension, unit can play up to 200 files per disc, unit does not play mp3 files in the order that you recorded them, it takes over 30 seconds to read the mp3 files and up to 8 characters are displayed for the name of a track. Also, it's recommended that you use only the root folder for tracks.

Summary: Good price, poor performance
Review: The first couple of months the product was terrific, but then we noticed that the on/off button rarely works now, and the DVD freezes constantly. I don't know if it is a lemon, but it is very poor quality performance wise.

Summary: Decent
Review: The first time we played a CD in this DVD player, it refused to come out. We tried everything. I took it back to the store I purchased it at and they had no clue as to how to eject the CD. We finally took a screwdriver to the disk tray and popped the whole unit out. They replaced it with a new player.

We've had no problems with the new one, but the remote is full of buttons we never use, and with the problems we've had with this model, we realize we should have just waited a few months until the price on DVD players dropped (...)

Bottom line: don't bother with it for this price!

Summary: Worked well for me.
Review: This unit has been fine for me. I have yet to experience the issues described by other reviewers...perhaps I'm just lucky. The setup was easy. The menus simple and a cinch to set up, and playback has been superb. The price was great, bought it at BJ's. It's a step above the low-end DVD players at a low end price.

Summary: MP3 capability is good, DVD quality suffers
Review: THough I may have a defective unit (I am about to send it back to Philips) this unit drops about 30 seconds of audio after any PAUSE, FWD, REV, or layer change. Makes it REALLY annoying to go back and watch something over again. On the plus side, a DVD/MP3 combo for [this price] is a great deal. I picked it up at Costco, but they QUICKLY discontinued carrying ANY Philips DVD players. Maybe too many returns??? Let me know your experience with this unit...

Summary: First DVD Slightly Disappointing
Review: We bought an entire system. We had heard that Phillips products were reliable, but almost everytime we watch rented movies on the DVD player, they skip. Sometimes the movie will stop on the screen for a minimum of fifteen seconds at a time. It's a problem comparable to the tracking being off while watching a VHS movie. It's extremely annoying. We tend to use our VHS player much more than the DVD because of the skipping problem.

Summary: Works Great... so far...
Review: We just purchased this unit at Costco for about $130. According to the Costco Electronics specialist, this Philips model was the least likely to be returned (other models there included Toshiba, Sony, and Pioneer -- the low-end Toshiba was apparently the most likely to be returned).

So far, playback has been good. We noticed a slight jump in one of the discs we played. CD and mp3 playback are both decent.

The features on the Philips compare favorable with models that are much more expensive. While our unit is only 3 weeks old, I'd recommend it as a decent entry level DVD player.
