Summary: good features, poor disk error management
Review: ... My concern is with my unit's inability to play normal-condition discs without "hiccupping" every 15 minutes or so. This kind of problem has plagued Sony's low-end players -- ... Basically, for some reason, Sony seems to have skimped on error correction in its less expensive units. Perhaps I got a bad unit, but given Sony's track record, my experience is some cause for concern. Finally, I think the remote's counterintuitive layout is a pretty serious issue: A poorly designed remote on a DVD player means you'll need to turn the lights on and stare at the remote every time you want to pause the movie. Not acceptable. (The remote's poor design is surprising: Sony's earlier entry-level players had EXCELLENT remotes which you could operate in the dark.)

Summary: Great Entry-Level Machine For Its Price
Review: ...I am extremely happy with the Sony 315B. This is a great entry-level player for those who are simply trying to switch from those old VCRs to the DVD. There are no fancy features such as Progressive Scan - but who would notice the difference if your old television still requires an RF modulator to connect to the DVD player? I still have many friends and relatives who refuse to upgrade their TVs because it is simply working fine. For these people, the Sony is a huge improvement over the VCR. I have given 8 of these Sonys to friends and relatives for X'mas and they all love it.

I have owned my machine for almost a year and it works great. What I especially liked about it was the ability to play DVDRs and VCDs. It is basically a workhorse - plays hours of DVDs without digital "breakout" or any other noticeable problems.

I must admit that there might be some "lemons" out there since all DVDs are massed produced. But Sony always stands by their warranty - though I have never had problems with my player. That is why I buy this player as a gift for friends and family - can't beat the value and brand name...

Summary: Disposable Sony
Review: Be prepared to throw this player out when the warranty expires. I have had nothing but trouble with my DVD player with skipping and freezing and when it got so bad that I asked them to repair it, they actually told me "good luck." Their customer relations people are rude, and the product is lower quality than anything else you might get even from inexpensive Korean products.

Sony's reputation for quality is based on a time when they actually cared about it. They're now trying to milk the cow dry. Do not buy this product, or you will feel like a sucker. Consider yourself warned by someone who just threw his nearly new player in the garbage.

Summary: Do not buy it !!!!!!!
Review: Bought it five months ago, used it maybe 20 times. This is my second DVD player. Tray will not open. Sony is ofering free parts, but they want me to pay for a labor, more than I've paid for new player. This is junk ! DO NOT BUY this dvd player. Sony products are not the same, good quality as thay used to be !!

Summary: Sluggish Remote???
Review: Cannot fault this unit for picture quality or for that matter, quality of build, etc. Only faults I found are with the remote, and they are fairly minor, to wit, must be pointed directly at the unit (not as forgiving as most TV or VCR remotes), and access of desired functions seems "sluggish" (you press, then wait a short time, THEN it is accessed!). Very good quality, otherwise, for the price....

Summary: You can't go wrong!
Review: Excellant quality, low priced and very easy to use. Some people have complained about the remote not controlling their Non-Sony TV. Which is dumb if it did all they would be able to do is turn the volume up and down. Get over it! This is a great dvd player for the price. I couldn't be happier with it!

Summary: Sleek, Inexpensive, Performer
Review: Good Picture, Nice Mix of Features, some you would not expect at this price range. It's Sony (...), what more needs to be said?

Summary: Cannot play Disney DVD (and some others)
Review: I bought a brand new Finding Nemo DVD, 3 times, from 3 different places, and the dvd player would have problems playing it. The screen color would fade in and fade out, it was just terrible. I bought another brand new disney cartoon, same problem. The only DDVD i can play without any problem is "Lord of the Ring". Man, i will NEVER buy any Sony stuff ....at least not the low end DVD player.

Summary: A Very Good Unit
Review: I bought mine when the first Lord of the Rings movie came out on DVD, so I have had it a while. So far it has been great. I do not want anything fancy; I just put in the DVD and watch the movie. I also have many concert DVD's, which look and sound great through my very good stereo system. I have had no problems playing concert DVD's and choosing specific songs from the menu. Also, mine has played CDR's many times with no problem. It is a very good basic unit.
