Rating: Summary: Decent product Review: Relatively low price. The tray is fairly noisy and sometimes the playback of the DVD is audible on mute. I find this unit has a slight "cheap" feel , but all in all... it has performed well and is able to play CD-Rs just fine.
Rating: Summary: Pioneer DV-343 DVD Player With Twin-Laser Pickup Review: The Pioneer DV-343 is a replacement for a Pioneer's DV-333 DVD Player. As his predecessor, it has a solid look that matches other stereo components. I also has a twin-wave laser pickup, which allows it, in addition to DVD Video and regular (stamped) CD Audio discs, read CD-R and CD-RW discs. More and more players on the market are including the this feature, which is useful if you are want to play custom-made Audio CDs and Video CDs (make sure the disc is finalized (closed) before trying to play it). The player looks solid and will look well with other stereo components (but it is a little too tall). The remote, however, looks simple (with small buttons that look the same). It also does not allow you to control other video devices. But the directional menu buttons are intuitively located with "Enter" button in the middle. And you cannot control your TV from it. The player's back panel has component video out, composite video and analog audio outs, S-Video, optical and coaxial digital audio outs, control input. The player supports slow motion and still/frame playback. The conditional memory feature allows you store your settings, including parental control settings, for several discs, so your children will not be able to view the stuff they shouldn't - you have a button to activate this feature from the remote. The startup time and resume play is very quick, less than three seconds. The picture quality is great, thanks in part to the patented Viterbi error-correction circuit, as well as sound. As other players, 343 can provide you with Dolby Digital or DTS sound, if you have a receiver Dolby Digital and/or DTS decoder. You can use either coaxial or optical out (optical out is less susceptible to signal interference, but is more expensive). If you don't have a Dolby Digital or DTS receiver, you can connect the player to either a Dolby Pro-Logic (or a new Dolby Pro Logic II) system, or any "standard" stereo system using two analog audio outs (RCA-type jacks). The Pioneer DV-343 looks good, doesn't cost a fortune and plays CD-R/W. But the remote could be better and for the same price you can get excellent Panasonic RV31 (see my review of it).
Rating: Summary: Plays DVD-R and DVD-RW Review: These days I want a DVD player for one thing: DVD-R compatibility. Other people may focus on MP3 playback, but that is not a feature requirement for me. I have a Pioneer DVR-A04 burner, and I want the DVDs I create to PLAY, period. Perhaps not surprisingly, it does indeed play the A04-created discs. I've used cheapie cdrecordable.com (now out of business) and Ritek stock and both work. DVD-RW from Memorex also has been excellent. So--if you are looking for a player that WILL play your DVDs, this is it. No artifacting or problems with files greater than 2GB, as seen in some other brand's players. I've burned a disc to almost the full 4.7GB capacity and it played just as well in the last 5 minutes as the first. As for the rest of the features, the unit is fine. It doesn't have zoom, and the remote is awful, so knock off a star for that. Otherwise it performs adequately. And if you want MP3 playback, look elsewhere. But somehow I think more and more the question people will be asking when they buy DVD players won't be "will it play MP3s?" but "will it play my DVDs?"
Rating: Summary: great dvd player Review: this dvd player has played every type of media i threw at it. all of my vcd/xvcds have played on it. i would reccomend it for everyone. at this price i would take it over any cheapo brand
Rating: Summary: Great DVD player for old TV's Review: This DVD player is just very good. It comes with cables and you can start watching DVD titles right away. Especially, it is great for a bedroom where usually old style TV sets are because this player has conventional video-out (cables included). It just plays DVD's, CD's well, the picture and sound are also very good. Its remote control is also quite good, very intuitive, easy to use. Only problem appears to be slightly big and old-fashioned without tons of features, but I like that. I do not like alot of useless features which I usually never use.
Rating: Summary: Works fine. Review: This DVD player is the worst one ive come across really. I havent had that much experience with them, but this is still comparitively worse than all the others ive seen. It has a menu function for almost every mode rather than a simple button to change eg:widescreen/fullscreen fucntion. Whats more, the menu screen shakes constantly which is a tad annoying for such an expensive peice of equipment. Whats more disturbing is...The widescreen function is in the menu, not changable by a button press, but i cant even get it to work anyway. The DVD/CD/VCD does spin louder than it should. IT is extremely difficult (at least for me) to opperate - in comparison to other DVD players. It has good hardware and capabilities such as DTS out and MPEG and such, but apart from this, id rather a less complex player opperation wise. DO NOT buy this player.
Rating: Summary: If ya can't beat em' join em' Review: This is a great DVD player. It has everything you want (even comes with DTS) at a price you can't beat. I'm sooo glad I bought this player. It's easy to set up and easy to use. A great first DVD player for anyone who is thinking of getting a DVD player. I wouldn't use it on my HDTV, home theater, but if you just want something simple that looks great, this is the one. Haven't had any problems with it, what can I say I love it. It was cool. Big Truck
Rating: Summary: Excellent player for the price Review: This is a great player for any non-HDTV display. I would highly recommend it for any tube TV owner. It covers all the connections - composite, S-Video, and component for video, and stereo analog, coaxial and optical S/PDIF for audio. Other players in this price range often leave out one of the S/PDIF connectors and some don't have component outputs. Setup was easy and intuitive, and no complaints about the remote. The picture looks fantastic on my Panasonic 27" (through component connections); I did not notice any shimmering, color bleeding or any artifacts. The DV343 has read every disc without a problem, even some with minor scratching. I have not had problems with it playing CDs or burned media either. No problems with sound using optical S/PDIF. Another major plus is its ability to play SVCD, which is somewhat rare in DVD players. My only complaint is that it seems to have louder than average spin-up noise. My [...] Apex player was dead-quiet, but you can hear the disc spin on the Pioneer while its operating, especially during the title. It's not especially noisy, but you can hear it during the quieter sequences of the movie. Overall, I think it is one of the better values in DVD players.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD player Review: This is my first DVD and so far it is great. 1 year on parts and labor warrenty come with this one which is a good deal. This model you can hook into your hi-fi vcr if you do not have a tv with av inputs, as well some players tell you cannot hook into the vcr just because they think that you may want to dub the movie. It is a great deal for the price so check it out.
Rating: Summary: Very Pleased with Purchasef Review: This is my first DVD player and I have been very pleased with it. The superior picture and sound has immediately made my VSH collection move to the back. I did not have an entirely smooth out of box experience however. I had it plugged in and going in about fifteen minutes but no sound. It took me about 45 minutes to resolve the sound problem. Then I discovered the cables shipped with the player were rather loose for some reason. I replaced them with a set I had handy. Everything was blissful after that.
