Rating: Summary: An OK player, but it has its flaws... Review: I bought this player because it looked like a good deal, and I don't have a big sound system or a new TV, so I didn't need any special features. But I didn't expect that it would skip on every DVD I've ever played! It can get very annoying when your movie suddenly skips in the middle of the most exciting scene. Here are some Pros & Cons:PROS: - Nice 3X Zoom Feature - Clear picture - Automatically turns onto screensaver when you pause for more than a minute, to avoid burnout. CONS: - Has skipped on every DVD I have played on it, sometimes more than once. I recommend buying a better quality player, because after the first few skips you'll wish you had. If you think that the skipping wouldn't bother you, and you want the low price, then go for it- besides the skipping this player has pretty good sound & graphics.
Rating: Summary: My Player Works Great! Review: I don't know where some of the other reviewer purchased their player, but my 511 works great! Others are complaining about technical difficulties - I bought mine from an online auction and had it delivered and through all that handling haven't experienced one problem. Zoom, Angle, slo-mo, audio, picture, etc - all perfect. For the person who owns 40 DVDs and had problems playing ALL of them - I question how you handle both player and dvd. Why is it that you need a new player so soon anyway? The only reason this player doesn't receive 5 stars from me is because it is a cheaper player without some of the extra frills that the fancier, more expensive players have.
Rating: Summary: In hindsight, a great investment Review: I figured since longevity is a major issue in all electronics purchases as well as performance, I can now say having owned this dvd player for over three years now with practically every day usage, I am proud to say it is still going strong. Once every several months it did skip or freeze when fast forwarding (for some reason 4x as fast wasn't as amenable as 2 or 8 or 16), but all I had to do was pop out the dvd, give it a quick wipe and pop it back in again. As far as features go, I still find it amazing that the frame advance and zoom features aren't standard on other more expensive models. In all, I feel I've gotten my money's worth 20 times over for this price.
Rating: Summary: """ SOLUTION FOR FREEZING and SKIPPING PROBLEMS """ Review: I got this DVD as a Christmas present in 2000. It started out fine with playing DVDs. Eventually after using it for a while I began to notice some skips, mainly when it tried switching between tracks on the DVDs. It didn't bother me a whole lot considering it was a gift and all, but rather annoying no doubt. Well...I've still got this DVD player (not more much longer I must say!). Just yesterday I was watching Atlantis on it with my sister, I had to stop it because of visitors and many hours later I came back to finish the movie. Well to my surprise now it won't read any of my DVDs, but it will still read audio CDs for some reason. I've unplugged the thing and even tried the old playstation trick of turning it upside down. I'm guessing it just decided to die on me for no reason because I'm not sure what happened to this thing, it was working perfectly fine earlier. But when it does try to read the discs now (more like failing at reading them) it is much louder than usual. Unfortunately, the one year limited warrenty is up on this thing, so is it's life!

Rating: Summary: Just stop being cheap and buy a Sony Review: I own a Sony DVD player and I absolutely love it... So for Christmas I bought my mother this Samsung DVD player to help her "make the change" over to DVDs. First of all if you are buying a DVD player for someone else and they have an older model TV, you have to buy a RF Modulater (which I didn't know until I called Radio Shack --Samsung tech support told me that I had to buy a new TV for her). Second of all after we got it working it starting the skipping crap. As I am writing this I am talking on the phone with the service provider in order to take it for repairs for a defect that evidentally was shipped with every one. My advice -- spend $50 more and buy a Sony.
Rating: Summary: Same problem as others Review: I purchased this unit thinking it would be a good inexpensive dvd player. However it did not function properly when I got it. It skipped durring movie play and the brightness faded. Since others experienced this problem on 511 & 611 there must be some QA problems with Samsung dvds. Oh well. Amazon'S customer service is great though they are taking it back with out a hassle and refunding shipping. Thats why it gets 1 star.
Rating: Summary: good buy Review: i recently bought one of these, and i haven't had any problems at all. the features are great, and i'd reccomend one to anyone looking to buy an inexpensive dvd player
Rating: Summary: Spend your money elsewhere... Review: I recently purchased this player at a store and was disappointed to find that not only did the frames skip on not 1, 2, or even 3 DVD's but every SINGLE DVD I had (over 40) - so I brought the player back and was given a new model but a month later I started experiencing unexpected power losses within the unit. I normally associate Samsung with lower end Electronic units and after this experience I will continue. I purchased a Panasonic DVDA115 which I am completely happy with and would suggest to anybody that's ready to make the jump from VHS to DVD.
Rating: Summary: AUDIO BUT NO VIDEO Review: I THOUGHT THIS DVD WAS A GOOD DEAL WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND IT PLAYED CD'S FINE. HOWEVER, THE VIDEO DID NOT WORK ON THIS PLAYER, SO I COULD NOT PLAY DVD'S. IT HAD TO BE RETURNED.
