Rating: Summary: Perfect for our needs Review: This Toshiba model is perfect for our needs. Has all the basic items we need - not all the bells and whistles, but we wouldn't use them any way so why pay for them.
Rating: Summary: Toshiba 2710-worked for 70 days Review: Was easy to set-up and use. I researched many manufacturers before I settled on the Toshiba, but it quit working after 70 days. Fortunately it is still under full warranty. Very disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Great Buy for the price and features. Review: This is my second DVD player after buying Pioneer DV 525 around 2 years ago. I was mainly looking for a player which will mainly play MP3s and CDRWs, as my first player already played CDRs. There are some cheap players which do MP3 also but don;t hve good sound quality. This offers best of all worlds with Dolby Digital and DTS output for the best sound, composite video for great resolution, MP3 playback capability for burned music, and awesome price.I've never had any problem playing any of burned VCDs or CDRs with MP3, although I haven't trued MP3 on CDRWs, but I hve no reason to belive that it'll not work. If you are looking for a DVD player with most of the latest features and playes MP3 also.. this is the best in low price range and I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Good quality and value Review: This DVD player is a good value due to the high quality and various options it contains. It's very easy to hookup and the remote is very easy to use.
Rating: Summary: Works great Review: We haven't explored all of its potential yet, since we got it one month ago. We might rate it 5-Stars. It works fine - good picture and sound. Easy to hook up. No problems. Good value for the money.
Rating: Summary: Great value, excellent performance! Review: I will not be buying an HD TV anytime soon...so there were some features I just didn't need. I have had it a little over a month now and this unit performs perfectly with everything I have tried...and the price was right. It is hooked through an Optimus Receiver to a Zenith TV, I have recorded from an audio CD to a cassette tape (JVC Cassette deck) with great results. The picture is terrific, the sound is excellent, and it has played audio CD's and CD-R's with no problem. I've haven't tried the MP3 or CD-RW in it yet, but suspect there will be no problems. No problems with New, Used or Rented DVD's. The remote has features I probably won't ever use and the basic stuff is easy to figure out (I'm not a big manual reader.) The hook-up was a snap (I just had to remember to switch the TV to Video1 source instead of Ant/Cable.) Nothing to it. This is a great unit for the price, I think you will be pleased with its performance.
Rating: Summary: Locks up after 1 hour, and this is not the first model Review: I am not sure what the problem is with Toshiba DVD players, but they seem to freeze or stall after about an hour into a movie. I have decided to go with a Sony so I can watch a complete video.
Rating: Summary: Good basic unit, but some minor flaws Review: I previously owned a Panasonic A110 whose laser recently died as those units were prone to do. During it's three years, the A110 performed very well. As a replacement, I considered another Panasonic, the RV-31 (not needing progressive scan). The primary reason I passed was that Panasonic has dropped the coaxial digital output (on at least this unit). My DVD unit sits at the top of the entertainment cabinet and I wasn't keen on purchasing and re-routing a long optical cable. The Toshiba 2710 looked like a good basic single-play unit and still includes the coaxial digital output. The unit's video seems fine so far, which is of course the primary concern. The major nit-pick I have with the unit is the LCD display, primarily when playing CD's; DVD's it's not as big a deal. In a mystifying design decision, the unit defaults to showing elapsed track time, but not track number. So, if you hit the skip button to skip tracks, you have no idea what track you are on. What was Toshiba thinking here? Personally, I care alot more about the track number, than I do the elapsed track time. Yes, there is a button (but only on the remote) to toggle this to show track number. Unfortunately, it defaults back to elapsed time when powered up. This is a nuisance and unlike any unit I've used. Also, when a disc is stopped, the LCD shows "zeroes", instead of total disc time like most other players?? It is the same for DVD's; shows elapsed time and only toggles to Chapter number, etc. I also give the 2710 a slight ding for noisy disc spinning, where the A110 was virtually silent. (you cannot hear it from a seating position, though). I give the 2710 a slight uptick for the zoom function, for those who might want to zoom a letterbox DVD (I personally don't). Overall, if I had it to do over, I would go with the Panasonic and just deal with the hassle of switching to an optical cable. But, for a basic unit with good video the Toshiba 2710 is okay.
Rating: Summary: Excellent value Review: I've just purchased this machine because my playstation2 may be good for games but really stinks at playing DVDs. I've read the mostly good reviews and can't understand why people are so hung up on this machine playing CD and MP3s and such. It's a good added feature on the machine, but if I want to listen to music I use a CD player or MP3 player. It's common sense that you get better quality using a player that is specifically designed for those uses. I bought this to play DVD movies and by all accounts it does an excellent job. To get an all in one machine that is perfect you would have to shell out a lot more money than this costs.
Rating: Summary: Got a great choice! Review: The DVD player that I bought does not function properly. The colors fade in and out, bright and dark. It also pauses at least three times per movie. I would imagine that it is just a defective player, but I don't think I will buy another toshiba. Thank you very much....
