Summary: Great for the money
Review: I bought this as a second DVD player in my house, for the CDRW and MP3 use. The remote is a little different, but very functional, I guess the only complaint I have is the unit cannot be turned on and off with the remote, the power can only be turned on with the hard power switch on the deck. Not really a problem since I plugged it into a switched outlet, on the DTS system. It's hard to beat the player for the price.

Summary: Great DVD Player for an Even Better Price!!!
Review: I bought this DVD player after shopping online (...). It is by far the best value. It has been great, no problems what so ever. It was extremely easy to set up, all the cords were color coded so all you have to do it match the colors and plug it in, and you were then able to watch DVDs. The picture and sound are excellent and the zoom feature is even better. The only reserve I have is with the remote control, the remote could have been better designed, and more user friendly, it would also be nice if it were a universal remote. Other than that I absolutely love it. The other DVD players that are in it's price range didn't compare with all the features this one has. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an excellent DVD player for a low price.

Summary: OK when it works
Review: I bought this DVD player hoping for a decent, reliable machine that could play DVD's and MP3's. The remote is layed out very poorly, and the on-screen user interface to play MP3's is severly lacking. It had trouble playing MP3's on the last 70 tracks (of 144 tracks) of my MP3 CD's, and the device only uses 6-8 characters to display a title. My pet peave is that the power button is manual only, so I can't turn it on or off with the remote. But otherwise the DVD player seemed to work fine. The picture and sound were decent. HOWEVER, after about 1.5 months of use, it simply stopped working for no apparant reason...What a hassle.

If you're a gambler, don't care about how it plays MP3's, and want a decent priced DVD player, then go for it. Otherwise, I would recommend some other DVD players out there that are more reliable...

Summary: Only one thing keeps it from getting 5 stars
Review: I just got this dvd player the other day at a great price. It was one of the cheapest models at the store, but it had to be up there with the more expensive ones. The picture looks like any other dvd player I've ever seen. I don't really care about the karoke feature. I feel that was just added on as a last minute feature. The remote has great controls, but it lacks a power button which got me kind of heated. That is the only thing that keeps it from getting 5 stars. I'm a lazy (...) and I need a power button for when I'm in the bed at night. I hate getting up. (...)Go get this because you will love it.

Summary: Slightly Dissapointed
Review: I ordered it ,I got it ,I tried it for the Kareoke and was very dissapionted. It does play CD-V (I assumed these are like my Kareoke CD-V ) but it only plays the sound and does not display the text for kareoke sing along. The other drawback is it does not mute the voice on the kareoke cd when you adjust the mic level ,like most kareoke machines. So the main reason I bought it for , I can't use it . Other than that the other features are great for the price.

Summary: Spend your money elsewhere
Review: I purchased this DVD player as a Christmas gift for my family in December of 2001. By June of 2002 (6 months later) it was no longer under warrenty, and it no longer worked. I called customer service and was told they could replace it for $50. If I had $50 more to spend on a DVD player I would have bought another brand to begin with. I wrote a letter to their review board in hopes of getting a better resolution. It has been 4 months since I wrote the letter, and I still have not heard back from them. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with this product!

Summary: Decent MP3 playback
Review: I read good reviews about GE1101P and decided to buy one. However, I bought another model, GE5803P, instead. The only difference between the two models is that GE5803P has a 3-disc changer and is slightly smaller in size.

I enjoyed it a lot, especially its MP3 playback. It recogonizes the directory structure on an MP3 disc, displays it on the TV screen, and allows you to jump from directory to directory. I heard the players from some other brands would flatten the structure and force you to wander about hundreds of files. I had a problem with some MP3 files, but figured out how to fix it later. This player plays MPEG1 LAYER III, but not MPEG2 LAYER III. However, it was not a big problem. From my experience, one can easily convert an MPEG2 file to MPEG1 by changing its sample rate. The lack of a shuffle function for MP3 files does not bother me much, because I wouldn't want to hear songs randomly selected from hundreds anyway.

The player is not without any shortcomings, though. It stops half way when it plays some DVDs and I have to power cycle it and jump to the track after the one where it stopped. It is also quite slow in loading. The random play mode seems faulty: it plays only a subset of the tracks and repeats some of them, instead of doing a full permutation.

Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone who is not a perfectionist.

Summary: Very Aggravated
Review: I recieved this dvd player as a gift. After hooking it up in every concievable way, it still would not work properly. Choppy audio and no video. The screen would flicker on occasion, but after trying to tweak it, the whole thing would lock up and I'd have to unplugg it and restart to get my dvd out.
