Summary: Exceptional value for the functionality it provides
Review: I've been looking for a long time for player that would be versatile, cheap and come from respectable manufacturer.
Finally my search was over.
This new player from Panasonic has a very clean and easy to navigate menus, good features for DVD playback. A lot of functions have been coded into dedicated buttons on remote so you don't have to invoke menu if all you want to do, let's say is to review the last several seconds of a scene that interested you.
The functionality that really won me over was playback of MP3 and WMA files coming from brand new hardware decoding chip. You can say that a lot of modern day DVD Players can play MP3 files. But what about usability? Most of these players won't let you navigate files in tree-like structure and those that do usually crop file names to the first 8 characters, leaving you to guess what could '001. Fl~.mp3' mean. This player displayes up to 41 characters of the file name and presents it in a very nice interface where you can easily navigate between folders and choose the track that you really want. It's such a pleasure to use that I forgot when was the last time I fired up my PC to listen to some track. If you own the receiver, then Optical Digital output will make sure that these sounds will get to your ears unaletred. As for the DVD picture quality, it is great on my 36'' TV with provided component video Outs.
As any other player it is not perfect. Some of the things that you may want but are not in this player:
- no progressive support;
- no mp3 playlist support;
- only Region 1 decoding and only NTSC (too bad if you own DVD movies from Europe or Asia)
But for the price this unit is selling I can afford to buy it now and then replace it in a couple of years with much more modern player without breaking the bank.

Summary: How to possibly FIX the dreaded H02 / H07 error codes
Review: I have a DVD-RP62S which is basically the same unit and after about 1 year I too started getting the H02 / H07 error codes.

The DVD tray would not open and when it did the DVD would not spin at times so it's definitely something with the motors.

I was able to get the player working again. This is how...

I opened the DVD player and removed the drive from the unit then I took WD40 and sprays both the top spindle and the bottom cooling vents of both the motors thoroughly and that seemed to fix the problem - for now at least

Worth a try before you throw it away

Summary: still going strong!
Review: here's an update to my review i posted about a year ago.

I don't know what this H07 code is, but obviously you got a bad batch! Mine has been going strong for over a year now and has not given me ANY problems! I have taken it down, unhooked it, took it with me different places and it's been boxed up and traveled with, hooked right up, and pow! still works just as the day I bought it! I can't say I watch too many movies anymore, but hey, I still love it!

I doubt you can still buy this player anymore, and why would you...the DVD market has DROPPED! go into a store and you can find them for under a hundred! WOW! so in conclusion, great dvd player, great product. Keep it up panasonic!

Summary: H07, what a suprise.
Review: Other than the fact that it died after one year it was a pretty good machine. But the price and features don't matter much if it is just a big smoking heap of garbage.

Summary: Panasonic DVD RV27 and the H07 Error Code
Review: I read the many many other complaints on this site about various Panasonic DVD players that get the H07 code - motor failure. Mine failed about 16 mos after purchase, and I paid $225. Way too much. But I thought I was buying quality and I never mind spending a little more to get a little more. But I got a lot less, and I am also very disappointed in Panasonic. I have bought their TV's and VCR players. Now I am in the market for a new DVD player. My stereo receiver and speakers are 35 years old (Pioneer and Altec..what great stuff) and my Panasonic VCR will no longer record sound. So I think I am going to get a home theater, with all those things in one package. And as I have searched for one, one of my favorite places to shop, Circuit City, has many that I like, and one, priced so temptingly at $300 with many many excellent reviews is a Panasonic. And you know what? I would not buy myself another Panasonic product using YOUR money, let alone mine. I am going to buy the $700 Sony system and hope Sony stuff is still as good as it used to be.
If anyone puts together a class action lawsuit over these Panasonic H07 piles of crap, please add my name to the list.

Summary: H07 strikes again
Review: I was one of the unfortunate few that bought my DVD player (as part of a Home Theater System) a few years back when everyone seemed to have glowing reviews for this DVD player. I recently started playing mp3 disks in it and got the "H07" code. I had a lengthy conversation with a Panasonic representative (nameless) who stated that Panasonic does have motor problems "but only if you do not subject the player to continual use." Therefore, I can only recommend not buying this if you intend on using mp3 disks or else drill several holes into the casing (voiding the warranty) that will allow for proper ventilation.

DO NOT buy this product. I know there are plenty of reviewers that have stated this already. I was very, very happy with my player prior to this past week. Yes - you can temporarly fix the DVD player with some different forms of maintenance but you either 1) need to continue this every 5 - 6 months or 2) you will end up burning out your motor (or worse) by waiting too long to have your system checked. Best of luck in finding another DVD player with similar qualities - I guess that is my next order of business. Please e-mail if you know of any that are comparable in features but not too pricey. Thanks!

Summary: Excellent DVD Player!
Review: I got this DVD player the other day and so far it's working great. I had a little problem using my original RCA cables but the ones supplied in the box did the trick. I also tested a DVD+RW disc I had burned with a HP dvd200i dvd burner and that also worked great! To top that off I tested a CD-RW filled with about 8 folders of MP3s. It played the mp3s flawlessly and changing between songs/folders was also fast. It had a neat playlist view to see all the songs and navigate through the different folders.

The remote is pretty good with the main functions comfortably right at thumbs reach. The dialogue enhancer increases dialogue volume in the movie which worked really nice instead of having to constantly change the volume of the tv.

I really like this DVD. Sure, it's somewhat basic and may have a few flaws and setbacks here and there (which I really have yet to find) but for the price you can't beat it. It has everything you need and plays just as good as higher priced players. I would highly recommend it!

Summary: Horrible H07 code! Piece of junk!!!
Review: Add me to the large list of angry customers. One year and 2 months later and this unit is going in the garbage. Thanks Panasonic for your H07 piece of crap!

Summary: 1 year and 3 months - DEAD
Review: I thought this was such a great unit when I first bought one that I bought two! One for the family room and one for the exercise room. Now one is dead. Judging from the other reviews, it is due to a flawed spindle motor installed with these units. Error code HO7. Now I am just waiting for the other to die.

I am really disappointed with Panasonic. I used to have great luck with Panasonic. I recently had a Pan phone die too after just over a year. I am going to switch to Sony.

Summary: H07...H07...H07
Review: H07...what more can I say. This piece o' garbage is pathetic. I can get 1/2 way through a movie by keeping the case off and starting the video by spinning the disc with my finger, but it still dies after an hour or so.
