Summary: Let Down by RCA
Review: I, like others, have had problems with this DVD player. It say's "No Disc" every time. I have had this DVD player for a couple months. Went through the online help with no luck. I contacted RCA, and was told it was a problem with the Player, and they would replace it with the same model. Great. Only at a cost to me of $39.95 plus S&H. That's an expensive DVD player. I already purchased this model once, and It's under warranty, then they want me to purchase it again. Duh.

Summary: Not good for somewhat older tvs
Review: Make sure before you buy this product that you have audio and video inputs on your TV or else you'll have to do what I did and buy an unexpected modulator that I might add has a $30 dollar price tag. I took it for granted that the tv that we bought would have audio and video input signals (bought 3 years ago). Don't make the same mistake I did.

Summary: May have coughed it's last breath
Review: Mine lasted less than six months, then I started smelling "burning plastic" and could not get a picture. Will try to deal with customer support this week, but am not encouraged by the other reviews.

Summary: Discs get unusually hot
Review: Not bad,It does all it says it does.dvd,vcd. Not to many bells and whistles though.user interface for mp3s is lacking. does not list entire file name. Letters are blocky. Not exactly like having windows media player on your tv. discs get unusually hot, hopefully doesn't become a problem. I bought it because my tv & sourround sys are also rca,for that I like it, one remote.Basically priced well for what it does but if you dont have other rca equip. might as well try some other brand.

Summary: Damaged Goods
Review: On May of 2002 I purchased this item from Target for my husband on our 1 year anniversary. We have used this item a total of 4 times and now it no longer works. It has our one and only DVD stuck inside of it and the door will not open or close, it displays the open/close but does NOTHING. This is ridiculous, when I purchased this product is was $149.99 I see it has dramatically went down in price and is now discontinued, hmm..I wonder why? I just cannot see spending that much on something which has hardly been used, now it is useless and no one will let me take it back or even help me with it.

Summary: No problems
Review: So it's not the fanciest, nor the most expensive, but I haven't had one problem with this player. We've had it for a few months and use it all the time without a single hitch. It was simple to hook up, is easy to use, survived a move, doesn't skip or stall, and plays DVDs perfectly. I'm quite satisfied with my purchase.

Summary: Bought it, plugged it in, and it burned up!
Review: Sorry RCA, but I seem to be a gluten for your punishment. After buying 3 of your modern, 20-inch rounded TV's a number of years ago, they all ended up short-circuiting within a few years. Even so, I see this DVD player at Wal-mart, and it had every feature I was looking for in my price range. I bought it, carefully set it up, plugged it into a high-end surge protector, turned it on, the screen faintly came on, and then an electrical fire sort of stench filled the air, and that was the end of it. When will I learn? I keep getting suckered by those two white little mascot dogs, and my faith that an RCA product will come thru for me. Now it goes back to Wal-Mart, and I guess I'm back to Sony or Panasonic. [To be fair, I found out later that RCA apparently was willing to fix all their defective TVs that malfunctioned years ago, but you had to contact them in a certain time-frame and who knew? My TV's did last a number of years before dying, but certainly not the "expected useful life of a product." (Something I learned when law school) RCA owes me.]

Summary: horrible
Review: The order came on time. Unfortunately this DVD player is the worst piece Ive ever dealt with. From the minute I inserted a movie, the visual was terrible there were lines and dots all over the screen so you culd not even see anything in the movie. The audio was even worse, you could not make out anything. I tried all different ways to see if maybe it was something I was doing wrong but after half an hour of trying different movies and adjusting the menu nothing helped. I was very very disappointed with this order and I would not recomend it to anyone. This is my first order off the internet that I have been disatisfied with. Im still very upset about it.

Summary: Don't Buy the RC5240P!!!
Review: The reason to buy a DVD player is to be able to access special menus on dvds. This player would access some dvd menus but would then act irratically -- playing some and not others. I thoroughly checked manual, trouble shooting, etc. etc. It does not work on dvds we tested out in similar players. ALL our dvds did fine in other players. Consumer Reports advises that this particular player is a "best buy." It also had said it will even play "damanged disks." THIS RCA player couldn't even play special menu items on brand new disks!!!!! DON'T BUY THIS!!!!! It's a LEMON!

Summary: Great everything but A/V sync problems
Review: The video is great. It even plays SVCDs on CD-RWs, which is quite nice for DivX lovers. And the best: it never skips (at least with DVDs). I would give this unit a 5.

However, I've also had A/V sync problems. It's very subtle but happens on virtually every DVD I own. The lips don't quite match the sound output. The problem appears especially when going directly to a scene or after pausing the movie. It's not as bad as 1 second of de-synch but it's probably between a quarter / half a second and varies throughout the movie. It's very subtle so it took me about a month to really pin-point (my girlfriend still doesn't see it), but it's extremely annoying, which is why I only give this unit 2 stars.
