Summary: VEry Pleased
Review: ....

The player is really a nice unit for the price. The menu system is easy and intuative, a real breeze to setup. We have watched a few movies, love the zoom function. Sound and video quality are top notch. I'd recommend this unit.

Summary: This is the one to buy!
Review: Being leery of what I was going to purchase, I scoured the internet looking for reviews of DVD players - hoping to find one to help me out. I bought this one, basically because of the name, features and price. After hooking it up and using it for about 1-1/2 months now, I have to say AWESOME! We have a digital TV and surround sound system and this DVD playes handles it all beautifully. It's like being in the theater. No skipping, no background noice with CD's and CD-R's as some people have mentioned. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for purchase!

Summary: Steer Clear
Review: DVD player stopped working after only about 15 hours of play (that's only 7-10 average movies). The sound garbled and the video began skipping. Sadly, I had owned it for quite some time before I began using it and the warranty had lapsed. RCA used to be a reliable brand but the quality of their CD and DVD players is now terrible and this one has to be, by far, the worst. Attempted cleaning the laser lens to no avail. Avoid this product. You'll get more use out a hundred bucks by burning it for heat.

Summary: Great customer service
Review: DVD player was DOA, however the customer service was outstanding and I had a new unit in 3 days. Remote control is a little weak when playing MP3's, it doesn't tell you in the manual how to jump to say...track 21. You have to skip ahead one track at a time, until you figure out how. So far i have used the unit more as a CD/MP3 player so i cannot offer any help on the DVD features. One advantage I did like is the design, much more stylish than other gaudi units available.

Summary: Great picture and bad quality
Review: First let me start with the picture and sound quality. They are both clear and great. But that is the only good thing I have to say about this player.

The first time we've used it I though WOW a great machine for a reasonable price. That was the only time it's worked correctly since. Now when we put a DVD in the player will either freeze while "loading" or halfway during the movie. We then have to wait an infinite amount of time for it to become unstuck or unplug the thing. Sometimes it will give choppy pictures and sounds during the loading of the movie menu. We will then have to turn it off, unload and reload-sometimes several times. After continuous cleaning and checking the DVD's and the player we have come to the conclusion that this is a LEMON.

Do not waste your money!

Summary: quite adequate
Review: For a DVD player in an affordable price range, the RCA is not bad at all. It was easy to set up and program, and if you already have RCA electronics (tv, vcr, etc) it melds perfectly with little fuss. The only problem I had was that the cables were too short to connect to a big screen TV and I had to make a trip to get them separately.

Summary: Pretty Good DVD player...
Review: I bought this and had a friend of ours set it up. He and his wife also bought this for his parents and in-laws. This is my first DVD player and I am so pleased with this. Our friend that is familiar with the digital world, said that the features are great. Since it is my first one I can't compare it, but he just raved about it! Great buy at a great price!

Summary: Another Defective RCA Product
Review: I bought this DVD player little over a year ago. For the year that I had it in use, it would occasionally freeze and was totally unresponsive to commands from the remote control or the buttons on the unit. The solution was once every couple of days or weeks you would have to pull the plug and then plug it in again so it would re-initialize.

Then last week this all came to an end. The unit would not power on no matter what I did. Check the web and you will see it is a common defect with this machine. RCA should have recalled this POS, but instead insists its customers return the unit for [price]!!! Not I. I have since bought the Pioneer CV 444 which is a superior unit and has a reputation for reliability, unlike this POS.

RCA should have learned it lesson with its television power-pack problems and class action suit. Selling defective products and then having a "too bad" attitude when it is clear that there is a problem with the design of their products is hardly the way to build customer loyalty. I will never buy an RCA product again.

Summary: Good while it lasted...
Review: I bought this DVD player new in November of 2001. It lasted until August of 2002. It just decided one day that the tray wasn't going to open. I opened up the unit and unjammed the tray locking mechanism by sliding it to the right with my finger. The unit immediately opened and gave me my disc. It worked for a week and did it again. So I unplugged it and haven't used it since.

I don't like the idea of paying this much for something and it only last 10 months. When I contacted Thompson Consumer Electronics I was told that the parts were still covered, but I would have to pay over $100 in shipping and labor to get it fixed. That's when I saw the price of the unit was now $98 at Wal-Mart.

As much as I liked the features of the player I can't recommend it due to the short life span. I admit I watch a DVD nearly every day, but I would think that it would hold up better.
