Summary: Great value, good product
Review: This is a steal at the price. The default sets the subtitles on, but by following advice of others and selecting an unusual language as default you can fix the problem. One reviewer rated it low because color goes on and off only needs to get a newer tv or get
an rf modulator to fix the problem. Great picture and great starter dvd.

Summary: Returned it and bought an Apex.
Review: Very slow DVD Movie load times, Clunky Remote, and can only get the subtitles to shut off if I go to the DVD Player, the remote is hit and miss with shutting them off.

Summary: Hyundai 550S DVD Player
Review: We were looking to venture into the world of DVD without spending a fortune. After reading the many reviews posted on this site, the Hyundai looked like a good one to start with. We received it a few days ago and set it up with no problem. The hook up to our TV was a breeze. While the manual is a bit confusing, we were able to resolve the captioning problem (mentioned by another reviewer) along with a few minor details within minutes. We may be new to this, but it is not rocket science! We have watched a couple of movies and found the picture to be great. Overall, this is a very good value for someone that does not want to spend a lot of money on their first DVD player. Quite frankly, it has more features than we know what to do with! I would definitely recommend giving it a try.
UPDATE: after several months of use we are still very pleased with this purchase. While the manual is poor, if you take the time it is not that difficult to figure out about the subtitles, etc. Definitely worth a try for the price!

Summary: Where's the sound???
Review: While the picture looks great, it would be nice if the product advertised advised people that they would also need to purchase an audio cable separately in order for the player to operate completely. It was very frustrating. I also felt that the connection directions could have been better written, especially for those of us not familiar with hooking up electronic devices.

Review: Works good for the price....some menus and features could be better, but it works.

Summary: ...pile of junk
Review: You play the movie and the subtitle kicks on, you turn off the subtitle and it turns back on again, this goes on over and over. The zoom button zooms to big and has that small box in the left top corner that blocks the picture out. You can't get that small box removed. The player is so junky, they don't even put their name on the remote, guess they don't want people to know how ... this player really is. ...buy the Apex for ..., great zoom and the subtitle works only when you want to use it.

Summary: Excellent audio + video.
Review: You really can't ask for more on this unit. It is packed. I tested VCD on it, no problems. SVCD, no problems. DVD, no problems. The unit seems constructed sturdy, and has a nice expensive look to it. The load time on this player is FAST, I pop in the dvd and it loads automatically in a few seconds. No need to press play...
Have fun with your Hyundai HDP-550S :)
