Summary: Not too bad, not too bad at all
Review: I thought that the Samsung 611 was a great buy. It's true that there is some skipping but on newer released movies it doesn't seem to skip at all. You can't beat this DVD player for the money. I recommend it unless you need absolute perfection, which you won't get with any DVD.

Summary: Super value, WIPE the disk to avoid skipping.
Review: I use it for about a year, it was first DVD player under $200. Having connected it to Dolby Digital receiver, I enjoy uncompromized sound and video for less. It would skip sometimes, but not as much as for some other reviewers, not even close. I found that it just takes to wipe the disk before inserting, and the problem is gone - no skipping anymore.

Summary: Yes it reads CD-R!
Review: I was able to buy the DVD-611 very cheap, so I guess I would have reviewed it a bit more critically if I had bought for full price but still, I think it's a really good product.

I bought it in Sweden, and Samsung really talks loud about it being able to play CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 files on it over here. Maybe it's another modell than the one in the States.

I've had no problems with it what so ever, it plays all of my DVD's (including The Matrix) very smoothly. I haven't been able to see any jitters or blocks.

The only trouble I've had was reading Ricoh CD-R discs with audio tracks, all other brands seems to work.

So, good product, buy it, it's good bang for the buck!

Summary: skippy
Review: I was very pleased when I purchased this product, price, features, ease of use. After playing a few discs I made a horrible discovery, this thing skips at will. Instead of bringing it in for repairs, I brought it back to the store for a Toshiba model. $20.00 more, but no skips, not one. buyer beware.

Summary: Beyond poor
Review: I've had similar problems as other reviewers, most commonly the picture skipping...often to the point that the movie is unwatchable. Now, for the third time in as many months, the player has stopped reading discs altogether. The one-year manufacturer's warranty has expired, but thankfully I bought an extended warranty from the store. My advice: skip this player.

Summary: Don't Be Swayed By Bad Reviews
Review: Like a lot of people, I could not wait any longer to get my first DVD player... and being budget impaired... I was looking for a good player at a relatively low price.

Before I buy, I always research, including reading the reviews for the Samsung DVD611 DVD Player. Seemed like split vote between those who praise the price and features to those who had VERY bad experinces with this machine and were justifibly warning consumers...

That all said and done, I ordered the Samsung DVD611 DVD Player for myself, leery of problems, but lured by the low price...and hoped for the best...

And I must say... this DVD far exceeded my expectations. So far, the skipping problem (which occur on most DVD players) has been minimal. The picture and sound quality and variety of options are more than I anticipated. The remote is small and easy to use... and it's just cool!

So, say what you will about the Samsung DVD611 DVD Player. I for one and very happy with it and would purchase another as a gift. Find out for yourself. Then write your own review.

Summary: Low price, little problems, GREAT value
Review: Like so many people, I could not wait jump onto the DVD band wagon. The Samsung DVD 611 appealed to me being that it was made by a pretty well known company, (i dont know bout you, but I would at least pay a bit more than settle for a $99 apex brand) and a reasonable price. I bought Gone in 60 Sec. along with it. It played fine, beyond any expectations I have had. One thing I noticed though, is that it skips every now and then. I soon found out that dvd discs, that use dual layering will tend to skip upon transistion or transfer to another layer. The only other thing, which doesnt bother me much, is it does not play cd-r's. A small set back. It plays perfectly, sounds great, and all for under $200 bux. I have already recommended it to others, and they have the same praises as I.

Summary: Samsung new and improved
Review: Samsung is an old name in audio, and an up and coming name in video. Among low-priced DVD players, this unit stands out. It is a good value and a great entry point for new home theatre enthusiasts. Unless you have a knock-out system, you won't notice too much difference between this an other models.

Summary: Good Design, Poor Performance
Review: Samsung is known for manufacturing quality TVs at affordable prices. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have the same success with their DVD players.

I brought this puppy home, attracted by both the low price and my satisfaction with my Samsung 27" TV.

Although the player performed satisfactorily while playing Tarzan, on other DVD's it seemed to skip over sections of the DVD at precisely the same point. I tried different DVD's, and this problem was consistent. The video and audio qualities were otherwise very satisfactory. This unit also has a zoom feature, very unusual for a player in this bargain price range. The remote is well designed, but the key pads are small.

But I can't see saving a few dollars and living with the skipping problem. Until Samsung addresses this issue, I suggest skipping their lineup and going with an equivalent model from Toshiba, Sony or Panasonic, the quality leaders. And Phillips has some very affordable models, and they seem to have licked some earlier Q/A problems.

After returning the Samsung I settled on the Toshiba SD-2200, and am confident that was the right choice for me.
