Summary: Randomly Skips
Review: I loved the design, price and feautures. However, the DVD player randomly skipped during the movie. I tried 3 new DVD's and they all had the same problem. If you don't mind an ocasional skip, it is a great value for the money.

Summary: The DVD's MUST be CLEAN!!!!
Review: I purchased one at Costco along with two DVD's -- I ended up returning it the next day for another one because it skipped and even refused to play one DVD.

The answer seems to be that the discs must be clean and lint free and then it plays them perfectly.

Other than that it's just ok, a decent value.

Summary: Mine skips too
Review: I purchased this DVD player (even after reading several of the customer reviews that mentioned the skipping problem on movie playback). Guess what.......my player also skips during playback.

It is really frustrating when you purchase a new piece of electronics and go through the time and effort to hook up all the connections......and end up finding out that the manufacturer has put a product on the market that does not function properly.

I guess this is a case where you "get what you pay for".

Summary: It Skips!
Review: I purchased this dvd player as my first, I brought it home and was able to set it up easy enough. I popped in my brand new Marx's brothers dvd and started watching... after about an hour I realized that it kept skipping at least once a minute. I thought it might be the dvd, even though it was brand new, so I rented a couple more. One of the dvd's wouldn't even play, and the other one skipped at least five times.

I returned the samsung and purchased the Toshiba SD-1600 DVD-Video Player which is only $30 more, I set it up and played all three dvd's without any problems.

Summary: You get what you pay for
Review: I purchased this DVD player in June 2000. In August, it started skipping and freezing discs out of the blue. It also started acting very strangly on just about any disc that had extra features (which covers about 99% of all DVDs). I had it cleaned, and checked out by a local electronics store, but they could find no problem with it and suggested I return it or purchase a better one. I've noticed that it skips more often about an hour into watching a movie. The player is usually pretty hot at this point, even if placed in a well open space. If I turn it off for an hour or two, and let it cool off, the skipping would stop - until the next time it got too hot. This is just not acceptable.

Samsung was my first DVD player, and I'm not happy with it at all anymore. I got it because of the low price, but I guess that old saying of "you get what you pay for" is true. Buyer beware on this one. I suggest spending a few extra bucks, and going with another brand. It'll save you the frustration of wanting to throw the thing out the window when it starts freezing and skipping in the middle of a movie you're enjoying very much.

Summary: Nice price to pay for skips
Review: I purchased this player based on price and a history of positive experience with Samsung. However, I returned the player after 2 frustrating weeks of skipping. I could deal with an occasional blip, but by the end of 2 weeks, I tried to watch a movie that skipped in every scene. I'll try a more reliable DVD brand next.

Summary: Frame skips make this player a miss
Review: I received a DVD611 recently as a birthday gift, but I'm returning it ... Every DVD that I've played in the machine has exhibited frame skips at least twice per movie. For me, this is annoying and disrupts the mood of a scene. I end up wondering where the skips will occur on each movie I play. The audio gain is also weak, at least through the analog RCA audio connectors (my TV doesn't support digital audio). I would recommend this machine only to uncritical neophytes for whom the low price is the primary purchase factor. They'll be impressed enough with the resolution and multiple connection options to disregard the skipping problem. However, if you think the machine's quirks would irritate you (as they did me), spend a little more money and move up to something else.

Summary: An ok DVD player if your on a budget
Review: I received this DVD player for Christmas a few years back, and as of this typing I still own it and use it regularly. Samsung is known for making mostly quality merchandise at reasonable prices, and this DVD player fits that criteria very well. The picture quality is great (but that mostly depends on what DVD your playing), but I have found that the true picture quality can be seen when playing any of Columbia/Tri-Star's Superbit series of DVD's. Sound quality however when it comes to concert DVD's is only average at best. I don't know that much about specs of DVD players, but I have heard much better quality sound from my concert DVD's on more superior players. The remote control is terrible however, and honestly seems to work only when it wants to, not to mention all the menu control problems that other reviewers have written about. All in all, Samsung's DVD 611 DVD Player isn't a bad buy if your on a budget and looking to purchase your first DVD player, but if your looking for a more powerful player then look elsewhere.

Summary: Hi Quality for a low price
Review: I recently picked up this DVD and absolutely loved it. Plus the price was great. This is a perfect DVD player for somebody who is going to use it occasionally like me but want also great quality.
