Summary: Sophisticated features at a rational price
Review: I am very pleased with my Samsung DVD-611. I have previously owned the Samsung DVD-709 which performed admirably. I own Video CD's from Asia. The Samsung products output the PAL encoded signal from these disks with a good quality NTSC signal. I had tried playing these disks on the Philips DVD players, but Philips DVD players always output a PAL signal when the input source is PAL which, does not sync correctly or produce correct colors on the American NTSC televisions. Since many Video CD's are from Asian countries using the PAL standard, this presents a real problem. The Samsung DVD-611 is future proofed with DTS outputs. The component outputs include coaxial and optical. The remote is sophisticated yet simple to operate. The mechanism on the Samsung DVD-611 operates quietly. The Samsung DVD-611 includes sophisticated features like 2X and 4X video zoom and multiple levels of fast and slow motion. There is no need to pay more for a high quality DVD player.

Summary: Except from the skipping its a good investment!
Review: I bought the Samsung DVD611 DVD player about two weeks ago. I noticed that with the first couple of movies we watched the scene would freeze briefly or skip. Since we were watching rented DVD's, I figured they had gotten pretty scratched up. Last week, we bought a DVD and tried it out. It worked fine until about the middle of the movie. The scenes skipped, froze for several seconds, and pixelated over and over again. Needless to say, I'm sorry that I was swayed by the low price. I'm taking this one back as soon as possible and will be getting either the Toshiba or the Sony that everyone is raving about.

Review: I bought this DVD for all the cool features it packs with its low price. It worked well for the first few DVDs I viewed. But then it started skipping. It not only skips a few frames, but entire scenes at times. The skipping is usually prominent when the DVD Player has been running for some time. I also recently got a laptop with a DVD ROM. I then put the DVD which was skipping in the Samsung DVD player into the laptop DVD ROM and it did not skip. So it is not happening just because the DVD may be bad. However, I liked the video quality and the zoom feature. The audio tends to be very low and I can barely make out the words at times. The remote although tiny is manageable. I would really be happy if Samsung has a fix for the skipping.

Summary: Lousy Player and Nonexistent Customer Service
Review: I bought this DVD player about 6 months ago. Even from the beginning it had problems, but I kept thinking that I just needed to clean the CDs better or clean the laser lens. The main problem was that the picture would freeze for a split second and then continue. It happened once or twice per movie for a while, but then it became progressively worse. Now when I try to watch a movie, whole sections are skipped and the freezing occurs every 5 minutes or so. The player came with a one year warranty that turns out to be pretty much useless. You have to prepay transportation charges to send it out to a service center. There are only two service centers in the entire country -- one in NJ and the other in TX. I live in California. Besides that, when I tried to call the 1-800-SAMSUNG number (twice), I dutifully went through all the menu options, only to get cut off before ever reaching a real voice. It was like a sick joke. Is there really a flesh-and-blood person on the other end? Anyway, I've decided to junk this DVD player and buy one that was recommended by Time Magazine and costs less than $... -- the APEX Digital AD-500. I'll probably write a review of the APEX player in another 6 months. Bottom line: The Samsung DVD611 DVD Player was a total waste of $..., and I'd probably think twice before buying any other Samsung product.

Summary: DVD Player
Review: I found this to be marginal...OK to use as a second DVD player, perhaps in the bedroom. A little jittery, with occasional pauses, but still a crisp picture.

Summary: Samsung has skipping problems
Review: I got the Samsung DVD-709 as a gift and it seemed to play DVD's well until we rented "Mystery Alaska." There were several scenes where the player would skip and then freeze. We thought it might be the DVD, so we exchanged it for the same movie at Blockbuster and found the same problems. It would even skip in the exact same scenes.

It has a lot of nice features like 32X FFWD and RWD. Also, 2X and 4X magnification. Not to mention DTS and Dolby Digital compatible. I just can't live with the skipping though.

I guess with a lower price you compromise quality. Sticking with the larger name brands like Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, Toshiba, or Sharp seem like a much better and safer bet.

Summary: Very Nice!
Review: I have been toying around with purchasing a DVD player for quite some time. Since I don't have the money to buy a top of the line player I did some research and decided on the 611 from Samsung. It is a marvelous DVD player for someone that doesn't want to drain their wallet. Befor writing this review I read the description that Amazon gives this player. I do not agree with any of the bad things said about it. I played Mission: Impossible 2 on it last night and it sounded as good as it looked . This is a very well designed DVD player

Summary: Good for price, but could have more.
Review: I love this DVD player for the price and quality, but would be willing to pay a little more for this model if it would have 5.1 channel. Other than that, it was easy to set up and it was great to use.
