Summary: A sweet little unit!
Review: First, a correction to Amazon's description: this player does *not* offer S-video output, unfortunately. Composite video is all you get. On the other hand, a feature not mentioned in the description is that you can feed composite video *into* this player, and hence use it as a 7" video display screen! That could be very handy for reviewing your camcorder movies...though if you're shooting in 4:3 (normal) mode, the picture will be a little stretched on the MDP-1720's 16:9 screen.

One other error: Amazon's technical description states "Frame advance: No," but in fact this player does support frame advance--you simply press the pause button repeatedly to step forward frame by frame. Can't go backward, though.

As to general performance: everything works fine, and the picture is excellent on the LCD screen. Sound from the built-in stereo speakers lack bass, but that's to be expected with any player this size. Sound through the headphone jack, on the other hand, is excellent.

Construction is impressively solid, and the ultra-slim aluminum case is a pleasure to behold--very similar in feel and appearance to Apple's classy Titanium PowerBooks. Travelers, and in particular RVers, will be pleased to know that this comes with both a 120VAC adapter and a 12VDC adapter.

All in all, it's easy to see why this was one of only two models recommended by Consumer Reports in a recent test of seven portable DVD players (CR, December 2004, p. 28)--coming in just slightly behind a Sony player that sells for $500!

Summary: portable dvd player
Review: I bought this for my sons to watch when we take long trips. It worked great for about a year. It now stops or freezes about half way through a movie. I called the manufacture but since I didn't buy the extended warranty I would have to pay them to just look at it and they wanted way too much to even look at it.

Summary: real nice for the money
Review: I bought this on a whim before a long trip, I was worried about the name. I had read mixed reviews, but then again I read mixed reviews on all brands. This player is wonderful, clear, nice sound with headphones. Wish it was a little louder without headphones though. We are real happy with it, remote control allows you to do just about everything but volume control. What else more can you expect for the price?

Summary: Served well in Iraq
Review: I personally know 3 people that had this unit in Iraq and swear by this player. I just got my orders for an 18 month tour in Iraq and I have just ordered mine. If this can survive in Iraq with the dust and 120 degree tempuratures it will serve you well on car trips.

Summary: Much smaller but has great quality
Review: This DVD plays all martial art films, I love martial art films and seems to support all the DVD's I have put in, The sound is great, picture quality is awesome, just perfect, and the metal is cold so when you use the DVD for hours it doesn't get hot. The remote control is great has good range, and many options that are easy to use. It comes with A\C adapter, and Car Adapter, you can plug it into a TV or a DVD player , this is a Wonderful piece of equipment, it will fit in your backpack, and is very durable, I once dropped it and it was still in perfect condition, it doesn't come with earphones but I am sure everyone that reads this probably has a pair and if not you can listen to it without earphones and it sounds real good. this is TOP NOTCH and so far I have had it for 2-3 months and will update at 6 months of use, it works wonderfully
