Rating: Summary: great dvd player Review: all that it is cracked up to be. I have played the matrix and other films and have had nothing but success. This is a well made product, especially for the price.
Rating: Summary: Foolproof and Fantastic Review: My Toshiba SD-1600 DVD-Video Player is one of the easiest to use electronic appliances I have ever owned. I hate to read directions, and hesitated to attempt hooking it up at first. (I usually save such tedious tasks for my alcoholic, but technically inclined brother.) Finally my curiosity got the better of me, and I opened the box. Within 5 minutes (and without reading the instructions or swearing) I was playing a DVD and had figured out most of the bells and whistles on the remote. Simple and sophisticated all at the same time. I'm impressed. By the way, the only reason my Sony VCR doesn't flash 12:00 is because it's smart enough to set it's own clock. I love smart appliances.
Rating: Summary: A Great DVD Player Review: I purchased the SD1600 without really knowing anything about DVD players. Now that I am more experienced, I know that this one is great. I recently purchased the same model for a different room in my house, and it works just as good. It says it does not read CD-R, but for some reason, it has always read mine. On the other hand, my cousin has the same model and his will not read CD-R. If you are a person who wants to buy a nice DVD player but not spend a lot of money, this is the player for you. The size of the remote fits perfectly in your hand. It's easy to use and set up. All in all this is a great player.
Rating: Summary: A great bargain, worth 3x the price! Review: If you're looking for a good, all-around DVD player to start your home theater, or for casual watching, buy this Toshiba model. It is PERFECT! The image quality is simply outstanding. It's better than my friend's [...] high-end player, and that's without the fancy inputs, such as component. The colors are rich and juicy. The people stand right out. The grim movies look great, too. Fight Club never looked better! This is the next best thing to a progressive scan player. Buy it, now.
Rating: Summary: Great machine! Review: I got the SD1600 for my birthday last year, this thing has worked flawlessly since then. I didn't realize what a great player I had until I read all the reviews -- I took for granted that all DVD players were supposed to be this good. The zoom function is a nice feature to have, you can move the cursor around the screen to take a closer look at something if you like (up to 3X zoom). Very cool and surprisingly not a standard feature on other pricier machines. The enhanced black level is great to have, even though I think I prefer the normal black level mode; to me it doesn't make that much of a difference with the enhanced black level mode enabled and sometimes I feel I'm missing out on some of the detail with the enhanced black level on (just my personal preference). The size of the remote is fine (I've heard complaints about its small size), and it's very intuitive also. The player is quiet, and I haven't noticed any slow load times. As far as movies it can play, I haven't had any problems whatsoever. "The Matrix" was one of the first DVD's I played on it since I liked the movie a lot (not realizing that that particular DVD is a good one to test out a DVD player), and it played right through. Have also played "Gladiator" and "X-men" on it w/o any problems either. I probably don't subject my player to as much use as some of you out there, but everytime I'ved used it, it's been terrific. Definitely recommend it! I only gave it 4 stars because obviously, there are better machines out there (albeit for more money). 5 stars for value though, especially at Amazon's price, 5 stars for execution, and 5 stars if you're only comparing it to others in its price range.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't be happier with this DVD player! Review: Amazon's online reviews definitely worked for me on this purchase! I read what seemed like 100's of reviews for countless DVD players for about 3 mo. before buying one b/c I couldn't afford to spend a ton of money but wanted a high quality, reliable DVD player. This was the ONLY DVD player I found w/ almost perfect reviews that was reasonably priced. We've had it since December 2000 and have never had a single problem with it. Plays 2 layered DVDs (like The Matrix) and 2-sided DVDs w/o missing a beat. Remote's easy to use. Everything you could ask for and the price has even come down since I bought mine. 5 star rating all the way.
Rating: Summary: Price Wise Review: Yes thid DVD player isnt the best on the market with regards to features but in todays day and age you get what you pay for. This DVD player is good enough for anyone who just wants a basic machine to play their discs with to much trouble and dont want to outlay too much money. This DVD is a bargain for the price all i would recommend is that you read all the specifications before you purchase this machine to be on the safe side
Rating: Summary: Great warranty with this DVD Player Review: I have been using my DVD player for the past few months. It has been working great. I haven't been happier except last night. Last night, we had a lightening storm. A surge of electricity came through the house and actually made the the laser on the DVD player spike. The laser actually burned through the top of the player, through part of the video cabinet, and TV. Thus rendering the unit and TV useless. Toshiba has been great in replacing the DVD player, the cabinet, and the television too. From now on Toshiba is my brand.
Rating: Summary: Decent Unit Review: Overall this is a nicely finished entry level DVD player. There was one quality control issue: when I unboxed the unit and started to use it, the music CD I was playing started to skip like crazy. I ejected the disc and few a huge glop of white grease on the cd! The ability to enhance the black level is a nice feature. I am bummed that it won't play CDR's but that would be my only real complaint. There isn't an optical output on the machine, something that would be nice to have as my receiver has more optical inputs than coaxial. I rent DVD's from Netflix and there are times that the player gets so locked up I have to literally reboot it (and skip over the troubled section)...I imagine that any DVD would do that, but it is frustrating none the less. In closing, you might want to consider the Apex DVD player which is able to play all sorts of discs. I have several friends who have been extremely pleased whith their players. One super nice feature on the Apex is the built in MP3 decoder!
Rating: Summary: I've been very happy with this DVD player! Review: I bought this DVD Player last Christmas. I'm not technically knowledgeable about what all is available in DVD technology. I did some research, liked what this model offered, and purchased it. Being not technically knowledgeable, I appreciated the ease of set-up and use. I have been using it for 7 months now and am very happy with it. I've read comments about some people being unhappy with the noise the player makes, but I have not noticed any such noise. The unit is quiet and easy to operate.
