Summary: All-in-One and Quality!!
Review: Received this DVD player a week ago and I am really impressed. The features are great. I played my CDR's and MP3's and they sound great(better than cd's). It doesnt feel cheap and the remote has all the features needed (the fast forward is awsome). I would highly recommend this player. It has a lot of connections for future upgrading of receiver or TV. Amazon has the best price out there, so go for it!! You deserve it!!

Summary: Great Value / Cheap Feel
Review: I had bought a Sony 660 and then returned it because it would play only CDs and DVDs. The Panasonic is versatile. The remote does not have any bells or whistles. The setup menus rely to heavily on too small icons. The playback picture is sufficient, but it seems to be more more washed out than the Sony. It did play all of the Matrix for me. I am satisified and appreciate the versatility.

Summary: An outstanding player for a great price
Review: What can I say about this player except WOW! The only reason I didn't buy a Panasonic a year ago when I was shopping for a DVD player was because of the previous years models inability to play CD-R's or MP3 encoded discs. Instead I went through and returned both the entry level RCA player (my advice is to avoid this player like the plaque) and a medium priced JVC player within a month. This player sent me to cloud nine as soon as I plugged it in and I havent come back down yet.

Here are just a few of the reasons I like it. It's played everything I've thrown at it and has been whisper quiet while doing so. The layer switch is extremely fast and it offers seemless branching (which I tested out by renting "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"). Finally, My MP3 files never sounded this clean on my computer. Please note though not mentioned here that Panasonic in the owner's manual makes no claim to any advanced playback features while playing MP3 files.

So, if your looking for a great DVD player than look no further then this great player from panasonic.

Summary: WARNING! Don't let this DVD's high rating fool you too!
Review: I bought this DVD player after reading the many, many glowing reviews here. BIG MISTAKE! The true test of a DVD player is the ability to handle the movie THE MATRIX. This DVD player refused to play that movie AT ALL. Even the opening sequence broke up...before there was even any action on the screen! I immediately returned the Panasonic DVD-RV31 and bought a Toshiba SD 1700. What a difference! The Toshiba handled THE MATRIX with no problems at all. Absolutely no skipping or stopping. If you're wanting to buy a great DVD player for little investment, go with the Toshiba SD 1700.

Summary: best I've seen!
Review: I have looked at DVD players for a while and have finally decided on this player. It is awesome. great DVD quality and the ability to play MP3s is very very cool indeed. The only feature that it lacks has to do with the MP3s, that is does not allow titles to be displayed and it does not have any type of random or shuffle feature. Other than that, sound quality is great, video quality is great. I would recommend this for sure! very very happy with my purchase!

Summary: Sleek Looks, Versatile & Great Value!
Review: I agree with the other reviews here. The only complaint I have is that the MP3s are not listed by name. Neither does one have the option to program or random play songs recorded in the MP3 format. Otherwise this unit is simply AMAZING! Picture quality is awesome, audio is fantastic & it readily plays CD-Rs and CD-RWs.

Summary: Rock & Roll
Review: The very best DVD player on the market today ( for the money). I am a Home theater geek and highly recommend this unit to low end as well as high end systems. You will be pleased with this choice.

Summary: Don't be fooled.
Review: After trial and error, and considerable research, I narrowed down my choices to the Sony S-360 and the Panasonic RV-30. Then I discovered this model, the RV-31. Despite the higher retail prices of the previous models, it's important to remember that international exchange rates, production efficiency, and greater consumer demand enable manufacturers to sell the newer, improved versions at lower prices. (Amazon's pricing, incidentally, reflects the commodity's inherent "value" far more accurately than other sellers, who are likely to have the RV-30 priced higher than the RV-31 simply because the seller's initial cost was higher.)

I was leaning to the Sony, primarily because of its sleek yet modest face and ultra-compact design (the thinnest and least deep). But for all its consumer-seducing bells and whistles (a "cinema mode" button? how many times is a DVD not a movie?), the RV-31 is still the inescapable choice in this price range. The ability to play variously encoded CDs, the disc-stabilizing feature, the shuttle control for fast scanning all represent advances in quality and convenience. And despite its more "gaudy" face, the machine's dimensions are almost as compact as the Sony's.

On the "down" side, the remote, like virtually all others I've tried, does not allow me to access my television set's menu, which must be set to "auxilliary mode" for the player to work, at least if you plan to continue using a VCR. But most viewers by now have become accustomed to using 2 or 3 remotes anyway. If not, the minimal exercise involved in walking to the set should not prove injurious to anyone's health.

Summary: Good player, but a few gotchas
Review: Enough people talk about its numerous capabilities. Here's a few minor annoyances. 1) On screen menu icons can appear too small and considered confusing. 2) Remote control arrow keys are a bit hard to press. 3) Resuming playback after turning off the unit is unintuitive; need to hit 'play mode' prior to 'stop' and 'power'-off to get the subsequent 'power'-on to remember your previous location. 4) Layer switch is about 1/3 of a second (branching is seamless). 5) DVD disk "League of Their Own" defaults to playing with Spanish subtitles.

Summary: Very impressive for 200 bucks
Review: I was looking for a workhorse DVD player and this model fits the bill. The audio & video quality is excellent. I have used it with DTS-surround audio CD's, a variety of movies from mono through Dolby Digital through DTS; and overburnt 705MB CD-R's and CD-RW's with MP3's from 32k to 256k. Just to give an example of the capabilities, you can get 48 hours of old-time radio shows onto one 700MB CD-R at 32k.

It's handled everything superbly. I never thought MP3's could sound so great until I started putting my collection of CD-R's through this unit (usually I do 128k and they sound great). For the price this unit is incredible; cheaper than many portable MP3 players. My only wish is for some sort of filename display/CD-Text/ID3 tag display system would be nice (either on the unit's display or via TV).
