Summary: Don't Count on Technical Assistance
Review: I haven't much used it since I received it, so I can't judge this DVD player on its features just yet. My guess is that it will do just fine--so long as you can get it hooked up. That's where my problem with Panasonic arose. I already had a home stereo with surround sound, a big screen TV, a VCR, a cable box, and an amplifier. All of my pre-existing equipment was a bit old, made before DVD was. Given all the intricate connections between all of these things, I had no idea which wires to switch in order to make the DVD player give surround sound through my home stereo, while still keeping the VCR hooked up, and yet still allowing the TV to play through the stereo. The manual gave no clue. So I called the technical hotline. I was told it would be an average 40 minute wait, and I should probably check the on-line help instead. I checked on-line, where I left a detailed e-mail, including product model numbers of all components, so forth. A week later, still no reply to my e-mail. So I called the technical hotline again. This time, I got through in 20 minutes. However, I stumped the techie--should couldn't figure it out. She said she would have someone else call me within 48 hours. I never heard from anyone ever again by phone. However, a week later, I received a reply to my e-mail. They said that it would be best if I just called on the phone--some truly sage advice. I've heard nothing since. I'm fairly technically savvy, so I just used trial & error thereafter. After about 5 hours & 2 trips to Radio Shack, I found a reasonable solution. So . . . unless you absolutely know how to hook a DVD player up to your existing setup, do not order a Panasonic product.

Summary: Everything I Wanted
Review: After many terrible experiences with a computer DVD (stalls, freezes, etc.) the responsiveness of this machine was both a relief and a revelation. The Panasonic is everything I wanted and although I am sure there are bigger and more complex devices on the market, for normal at-home viewing without hassles or headaches, this more than meets the bill. I gave it only four stars because I have no real basis of comparison but for me it is a five star winner. I am delighted with it and commend it to anyone who wants a dependable DVD player at a bargain price.

Summary: Frustration max!
Review: I was so excited to buy my first dvd player and Panasonic came highly qualified. This player in particular. But, six months later it started freezing up on me with no explanation. Moved the player to make sure it wasn't being jolted by the vcr but that didn't help. Redid the connections and that didn't help and was getting nothing but the DVD logo. After reading the other reviews similar to this, I think there's a malfunction in the player and we should get the chance to turn these players in, free of charge, for either an upgraded one that works or money back.

Summary: Very nice DVD player
Review: If you are looking for a quality, inexpensive DVD player, this should be on the top of your list.

The good: Excellent video playback and sound.
Easy to use menus and controls.
Plays just about any type of disc you want, including MP3 discs, but not DVD audio or SACD's.
Includes features that more expensive units do not.
Search dial makes it easy to scan through a movie.

The bad: The unit itsself is very light. So is the remote.
Surround and dialouge enhancing features do nothing unless connected to a stereo.

Overall, this is an excellent DVD player for the price. Panasonic has definitely made a winner. Check this one out.

Summary: Excellent player except for a few kinks...
Review: I bought this DVD player 3 months ago and I could never be happier with it. Since then I have bought 3 more of these players for friends and relatives. I bought the Black or Silver they are exactly identical in functionality. I prefer the Silver look myself.

The MP3 player was a big plus! It plays my MP3 disks with ease. The only problem is that it only displays the numbers of my MP3 files when playing it. So you may have to memorize your MP3 via numbers. It will play the files in the order the MP3 files are written. Just make sure you make a list of the songs cause there is no way to memorize over a hundred songs in a disk.

Unlike the Toshiba DVD with the MP3 playing capability, the Panasonic DVD/CD/VCD/MP3 COULD Fast Forward/Rewind while playing the MP3 files. Im glad I did not buy the Toshiba, pretty much all the Toshiba players I tried in the electronics store could not fast forward/rewind MP3 file/song. This is bothersome especially if you need to scan through your MP3 songs.

Playback was excellent. I haven't got any bad pixelations where the picture was not completely processed which leaves bigger squares of the image all over the place. I did get a couple pauses/delay/discontinuity while playing the DVD on some disks. The discontinuity usually happens while it switches to the next track. It only happens rarely in the frequency of once in 10 movies I play. It may just be the disk itself causing it, especially if it has scratches.

As far a CD playing is concerned, it has pretty much what a normal CD player has. Search, Fast Forward, Rewind, Random, Scan and more... Just read up on the specifications to find out the rest.

VCD Playback is excellent as well. The image was nice and clear. Of course it will never match up with the DVD's picture quality.

The component outputs and digital audio output is a plus for future expansions. Most new higher end televisions and receivers have component inputs now. And most receivers that support DTS/Dolby digital 5.1 will have digital audio inputs. Though this particular player does not support progressive scan, the picture quality is up to par. Panasonic makes a model that supports progressive scan but it is slightly more expensive. It will look very similar to this one except it will say progressive scan on the front disk tray.

This player also implements special function for surround sound. It will simulate a surround sound through your television even though you don't have any of the complex receivers/audio equipment. Of course it will not match up with having your own surround receiver, but it is good enough if you don't have one.

This player has proven itself to be very reliable to me. Its ease of use and functionality makes it my top pick especially for its price range. At Amazons current pricing on this player (Black or Silver), you cannot find a better name brand in its class!

Summary: THE PANASONIC DVD-RV31K
Review: I REALLY ENJOY THE PITCHER QUALITY AND DIFFENT FEATURES, BUT I NOTICE THAT MY AUDIO SOUND IS BETTER FROM MY VCR, THAN MY DVD-PLAYER. ALSO MY REGULAR CD-HEAD CLEANER WON'T WORK WITH MY DVD-PLAYER. SO HOW DO I CLEAN MY DVD-PLAYERS HEAD.

Summary: I love it!
Review: This is the second DVD player that I've purchased and I love it. The first one was an Apex 1500 and I got it for around $.... It was cheap and didn't work. At that time, I decided that maybe it is true and you get what you pay for. So I decided to buy another one and pay a little more. I did and I agree.

Summary: so so
Review: Very good, for when I got it back in June 2001. One of the first player to support multiple formats: CDR, CD RW, VCD, MP3.

Now, the market has much better DVD players for cheaper, I believe Best Buy has a JVC progressive scan with all of the same features as this RV31K for around $200.
