Rating: Summary: Close but not perfect Review: The Panasonic DVD RV-30 is the first DVD player I havepurchased. The player was easy to setup and run. I spent a lot of time reading reviews, not only from Amazon but other websites. I was looking for a good entry level DVD and the RV-30 and Sony's 360 models were the two having the least problems of the low end models.Setup was easy and the manual was complete (Yes, I do read manuals). I did spend quite a bit of time searching for a specific item of information in the manual, but again, it is very complete. I found the video and audio to be as expected. The picture looks extremely good on my 27" Sanyo using a RF modulator bought at Radio Shack specificly designed to connect DVD players to older style TVs. I don't have RGB connectors on the TV. I patched the yellow video cord from the DVD player to the RF modulator and coaxial from the modulator to the TV. The sound goes to a receiver with digital decoding using the optical output from the DVD player to the receiver. The receiver does all the work and does it well. I'm sure the RV-30 is helping but the receiver does most of the work, and the sound is excellent. Now the reason for 4 versus 5 stars. At about 1 hour 16 minutes to 1 hour 24 minutes into a movie, all the DVDs I have played skipped. They only skipped once but skip they did. Before this time period and after the time period has passed, no skipping. I'm at a loss but am going to continue to use the machine to see if this unique problem goes away or maybe occurs only on certain DVDs. It could be a dirty disk surface (all the DVDs I've played are rentals) but I'm just not sure. Other than this one problem, everything is perfect. Oh, by the way, I read other reviewers of DVD players talking about how long it takes the players they own to respond to remote control commands. Whats this all about? This unit responds very quickly to remote commands. By the time I find the button, press it and look up at the TV screen, the command has taken place. I guess some people have very, very quick eye to hand coordination[...]
Rating: Summary: Best of the Best Review: The Panasonic DVD-RV30 cannot be beat in quality and price. It is simply the best of the best!
Rating: Summary: One of the Best DVD Players Review: The Panasonic DVD-RV30 is a solid machine, with many useful features. The picture quality is amazing (especially on my big screen using the S-Video connection), and the sound is great. Just bought X-Men last night, and have tried several other DVDs, and they all work perfectly (even X-Men's seamless branching feature). The on-screen menus are logical and easy to use. As others have stated, I guess it couldn't hurt to have a lighted remote, but I've already got a feel for this one after only a few days. It's not a big deal at all. I would definitely recommend this player, especially considering the rebate through Panasonic (I have not sent it off yet, so I can't say anything about it). Happy viewing.
Rating: Summary: Overall a Wonderful DVD Player! Review: The player may not be as fancy as the higher-end players, but for the price of this Panasonic DVD player, it's a wonderful steal. The picture quality is great, the sound is great, it's quiet & easy to use. I received this as a gift and am extremely happy with it. The remote control is easy to use, it would be great if it had glow buttons, but hey, turn on the light. I highly recommend this player for anyone that wants a DVD player, but doesn't want to spend an enormous amount of money. It's a Great Buy!
Rating: Summary: Disappointment Review: The player plays only plays DVDs and CDs. NO CDR, NO CDRW, NO MP3. Purports to play VCD, but this is pointless since it can't play CDR. Most frustrating part of this unit is the time lag between power on and tray opening. Should take one second, but wastes about ten. Remote control is poorly designed and you'll be forced to turn on the lights to find any button. Multiple angle DVDs are very frustrating to use. Changing angles requires more than one button push. My Apex cost half as much and has many more features.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD Player Review: This DVD Player has excellent sound and video quality! The remote is easy to use, and menus easy to follow. It loads DVDs very quickly. There is virtually no skipping even on the worst rental DVDs. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent DVD Player Review: This DVD player is great -- it has all the features you'd ever want. The pull-down menu is a cool tool that allows you to change the sound, camera angle, and movie position, among other things, while the movie is playing. Picture and sound quality are superb, especially on Dolby Surround. It doubles as a CD player, which is a great way to save space on your shelves. I wouldn't recommend a turntable DVD player (unless you want to use it for CDs) because you can only watch one movie at a time anyway. Do yourself a favor and buy this DVD player. It's a purchase you won't regret.
Rating: Summary: Problems Playing Some DVDs Review: This DVD player ocassionally freezes in the middle of playing some movies. The only way I have been able to get it to continue to play the movie is to skip to the next chapter. 2 movies that I can think of that this player has problems with are Gladiator and The Princess Bride. Both these movies play flawlessley on my other DVD player which is 2 years older and by another manufacturer.
Rating: Summary: A very nice and affordable player Review: This entry-level DVD player comes with some nice features. The Virtual Surround Sound may not be completely obvious on all DVDs but it certainly enhances the quality of the sound for a good cinematic experience even if you are like me and only have to speakers. The Cinema button on the player is supposed to clarify darker scenes and make the picture more theatrical. It does lighten the scenes a bit but you will probably find yourself keeping that function off and allowing the darker scenes to be dark; only turning it on to find details in poorly lit scenes. The remote, though small, is quite easy to use and you can adjust to it quickly. Many of the buttons are a little small, but you rarely use the features on the small buttons anyway. Overall, I give this five stars for getting everything necessary and a little more for [the price]. So, if you are looking for the best DVD player at entry level, I would choose this one...oh yeah, the one-year warranty is always nice, too.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD Player Review: This is the first DVD player that I have ever purchased, and so far and am very happy with it. The picture, and sound are great, and I have watched about 6 different movies on it so far, and I have never had any problems with skipping or anything. The only reason that I do not give it five stars, is because I don't think the virtual surround sound is very obvious. But the sound is still great, and I would recommend this player to anyone.
