Summary: I returned mine today.
Review: I don't know if it's common with this model or if I just got a bad one. In either case, I returned mine today. On several different movies, the picture and sound would just start to break up. I had it for a week or two. At first, I thought it was the movie - but it continued to happen too many times. I also have an older Panasonic A210 which doesn't have this problem (on the same movies). I'll most likely buy a different one from Amazon.com. They've always offered great service and were very helpful in providing me information to return this item. They even sent the UPS label out to me, pre-paid for the return.

Summary: what a steal!!
Review: I finally decided to buy a DVD player a few days before xmas, after I bought my parents a Sony DAV-S300 DVD home theater system(great for people with just a TV and portable radio). I wish I would have decided before Dec 19th, and Amazon would have paid for my shipping too. I shopped around for 2 days straight, checking prices and reading tons of reviews. This player was out of stock at many places. The RV30 is a great deal. I wanted my first DVD player to be one that wouldn't be out dated in a few years, and also not be lacking features that suit my needs. I think I got what I needed, and more. Hook up is quick and simple. Just remember you have to switch your TV to AUX/VCR after selecting INPUT from your TV menu-not channel 3 or 4 like you do for a VCR, or you will only get sound and no picture. Forget about the whinning about back lit remote, this remote is user friendly and only takes a few movies to get the hang of it. Plus, if you must sit in the pitch dark to watch all your movies, there should still be enough light from the TV to see the remote. CINEMA MODE worked well with The Bone Collector as there were many dark scenes. Virtual Surround Sound and Dialogue Enhanacer also worked well with my 2 stereo speakers and 100 watt amp. Menus are easy to access/select from, and the player is quiet. I am only using the cords that came with the player. My vcr is only used for recording TV shows now, you can't even come close to the picture/sound of the DVD. Plus the EXTRA options you get with the DVD version over the VHS tape are unbeleivable. Its like seeing 2 movies for the price/rental of 1. For a first time DVDer using a 100 watt stereo with woofer-mid-tweeter speakers, and a 32 inch TV, I don't feel the need to go to the movies anymore. The movies will now come to me & my DVD player when I want them an how I want to see/hear them.

Review: I have owned a DVD-ROM drive since they were first introduced three years ago. I thought that DVD-ROM would be the standard media by now, but I guess I was wrong. The picture is very bad and movies on the player look like slide shows! So I decided to get a DVD player. I researched for several months for the right player. I researched models from Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, and Pioneer. I wanted to buy a player for around $250 that only played one disc (I didn't need a multidisc model) and had excellent picture and sound quality. Also, I didn't need a player with Dolby Digital or DTS decoders built-in to the player. My receiver could do that. After researching and researching, I became interested in the Sony DVP-S360, the Pioneer DV-333, and the Panasonic DVD-RV30 player. All three players are good players, but people have been complaining that Sony's "PrecisionDrive" is very loud especially in the quiet scenes of a movie, which could get kind of annoying. Also, many reviewers were saying that the Sony produces a nice, but "soft" picture, not a crisp DVD-like picture. Many reviewers complained that the Pioneer DV-333 is not built well and also produces a soft picture. Everyone seemed to love the Panasonic DVD-RV30 DVD player. They all said that it produced a very clear, crisp, and vivid picture that rivaled the $1000+ DVD players and that the sound it produced was great. Also, since Panasonic is offering a $50 mail-in-rebate, I decided to buy the Panasonic DVD-RV30. Setup took me five minutes. I took the player out of the box, plugged the power cord in, plugged the TV cable in (only composite cables are included with the player), and inserted the batteries in my remote. That was it! This player has many features including: Virtual Surround Sound (VSS): Uses your stereo system's speakers or your TV speakers to produce delays in the sound recreating a surround sound experience. This is personally one of my favorite features of the player. I thought it would be a gimmick that didn't work, but it works really well! I am amazed at the sound produced when VSS is on! Dialogue Enhancer: Dialogue enhancer is supposed to increase the center channel of your home theater system by 6 DB which allows for the dialogue to come out clearer. Even on a normal TV system, dialogue enhancer definitely improves those DVDs where the dialogue is so hard to hear. I usually always leave dialogue enhancer on. Also, at night, I can turn the sound down and yet still understand what people are saying. This way, I won't wake up my family! :-) Digital Cinema Mode: Supposed to improve the detail of the picture in dark scenes. I personally have not used this feature yet. A direct-bass output is also featured. It allows you to connect your player directly to a subwoofer to enjoy the same kind of bass effects you would only usually get through a home theater system. Other features include component video out, S-video out, and optical sound output for Dolby Digital and DTS. I am currently testing this player using just composite cables, and the picture is so amazingly clear on just composite cables! It is like you are in the movie when you use component video output cables, but your TV must support it. Check your TV manual to see whether it supports component video, S-video, or composite cable connections. The remote is very intuitive and easy to use. All of the features the player is capable of is easily accessible through the remote. My only complaint is that you can't select a chapter in any sort of one-click way. That would have been a great feature, but it is not necessary. I really like the resume feature this player has. If you decide to stop to run an errand in the middle of movie, even if you turn off the player and back on, the player will "remember" where you were in the movie and immediately take you there! I have to agree with all of the reviews I read. Sound quality and picture quality is superb! Details are very crisp and easy to see, and fast action scenes are like a walk-in-the-park for this player. I threw all kinds of movies at my player, and it didn't seem to stress at all with any kind of scene. Even layer changes are very smooth. I did not even notice a single hint of a layer change in the movies I watched. Finally, after playing about four hours worth of movies, the player did not get hot at all. The DVD inside the player wasn't even hot. Everything about this player seems very solid and will last a lifetime. All in all, this player has to be one of the best players out onthe market right now, literally.

Summary: Great Player, Great Price!
Review: I have owned this player for about a month now. I am very, very satisfied with it. It has played every DVD without problem. The sound and picture are great. It doesn't play CD-R's but I didn't plan to use this as a CD player and I don't have many CD-R's to begin with. Also, it does not have the built in dolby digital processor for true surround sound. I am not an audiophile and if you are not either, you will probably not notice the difference. The Panasonic does feature a simulated surround sound which is good enough for me and well worth the savings I would have otherwise spent on a DVD with the processor. I also considered the Sony 360 and the Pioneer 333, and they also seem like great players. I don't know what advantages they give, but I so far have found no short comings on my Panasonic. I also did a considerable amount of shopping around and could not find prices better than Amazon. And you can never beat their service. If you have VHS now, you can't go wrong with a DVD. Buy this Panasonic DVD player and you will ask yourself why you held onto your VCR for so long.

Review: I haven't had a dvd player before, but I can greatly appreciate the added benefits that it brings. The rv30 seems to produce picture and sound comparable to any other dvd player I have seen. At such a great price, I see no reason not to jump at this product.

Summary: DVD Rocks
Review: I just bought this DVD player back in late December. I did alot of research before I invested anything into this player, and I have to say that this is one of best and affordable DVD players on the market today. The DVD player is loaded with tons of options. One of favorite options is the VSS (virtual surround sound). I have currently have an Audio receiver but I only have 4 speakers connected to it, but with the vss it enhances the sound even more to make up for the missing center channel and bass. Another nice option is the chapter preview whichs allows you to view the first 5 seconds of every chapter up to the one that you left off at. I only wish that the player could play CD-R's and CD-RW's but I guess that is what I have a stereo for. I bought this for a DVD player, not for a multi-function machine, even though it plays CD's and Video CD's.

Review: I just purchesed this player a month ago and I couldent decide between this one,the toshiba 1600 and the panasonic dvd-cv40. this was the chepest and offered the most. and I am very impresed! All the features work very well. Fast setup(I set it up in under 5 minits) I have watched my 3 favorit movies on it (gladiater,air force 1 and X-MEN) and it hasent skipped yet. Buy this machine you wont regret it.

Review: I purchased this DVD as a result of on line shopping comparisons for features, price, and ease of use. I own a Panasonic TV/DVD combo and it works terrific. I received the thirty and it had similar feautures that my 27" combo DVD had so it was easy to set up and use. During my first DVD it stopped (go blank) and started by itself every few minutes. Changing DVDs, checking set up, and reinstalling did not affect it's performance. I even changed the remote (I had the other DVD remote).I returned it, bought a better grade Panasonic (the 65) which runs better, has awesome sound, and is overall a better looking machine.
