Summary: What happened - It says CDR on Amazon, but not in the manual
Review: ....The picture is great, and so is the sound, but It said that it would play cdr's, but as of yet, I can't get any of my cdr's to play, so I'm upset. I'll keep it, because I can use it for dvd's, but I was hoping to be able to see CDR's that I burn of my home movies on videocd, but I guess that won't work, so I'll stick with the vcr for those.

Summary: Unbelievable sound
Review: Crisp, clear picture and, played through my Boze 3 piece speakers, I ducked when the fighter planes (Air Force One), roared overhead. Wow! Couldn't be more pleased.

Review: Got a good deal on this player a year and a half ago after doing some research. Not bad at all.

Summary: Best player for your money
Review: I bought the Panasonic a month ago after considering the Sony DVP-S360, the Pioneer DV-333, and the Toshiba SD-1600. These models were in the same price range, so I was looking for something that really stood out from the pack. I chose the Panasonic mainly because of our experience with their products (we've owned two Panasonic VCRs, which haven't broken down yet), and the fact that it's made in Japan. The only real shortcoming is the lack of coax output (I prefer optical anyway). The remote is pretty simple to use once you get the hang of everything. Also, the player hasn't skipped at all yet, which is a good sign. I use Monster cable to connect it to our projection TV, and I must say you can tell the difference. Even my friends believe the color is more vivid than they've ever seen.

Summary: Very good deal for the price
Review: I bought this model based on the other reviews here, and I haven't been disappointed at all. I don't own a high-level home theater, so this basic model is perfect for me.

I like the audio functions, specifically the ability to balance the dialogue levels against the music/SFX levels on applicable DVDs, which I haven't seen in some other models of this range. Overall the audio is wonderful, even hooked up to my old receiver and speakers.

My quibbles with it are mostly in the remote layout. Basic funtions like screen aspect ratio are relegated to a generic "Actions" button, which brings up a menu of several functions to sort through. I have seen other models in this price range that have better-thought-out remotes. (As for the lack of backlit keys, that isn't as big a priority with me. Through repitition, I tend to learn how to find the important keys without looking...)

Overall, this is a very good buy. Good price, lightweight, compact, easy to hook up and use right away.

Summary: Great product for a great price!!!!
Review: I did alot of researching of different DVD players before I bought the Panasonic DVD-RV30. It is very easy to set up and has a wonderful picture and sound. The Virtual Surround Sound system is great for people like me who don't yet have a true surround sound system. I especially like the seperate subwoofer jack. This way if you have a regular stereo system, you can still add some extra bass without having to buy an expensive surround sound system. The unit does have a optical digital output for whenever you want to upgrade. I use the S-video output for the video and it is wonderful. All in all, if you are looking for a great DVD player at an affordable price...this is the one to get!!

Summary: Best DVD player under $250
Review: I did some detailed research on multiple DVD players from the usual suspects - Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Pioneer - before I settled on this Panasonic. There were numerous reasons why I picked this one and I will try to delineate them below.

First, this DVD player is either the best or among the best in all the technical specifications that matter - picture resolution, dynamic range, S/N ratio etc. Second, both the picture and sound quality from this DVD player are awesome - this is specially important when you realize that quite a few Sony owners were complaining of the "noisy drive mechanism" and "softer picture quality" saying that the picture was not much sharper than their own high end VCRs. Third, this DVD player gives you all the output jacks (albeit less in number than the Sony) that one would need to hook up to even the most advanced TV's and receivers out there. Finally, I didn't plan to use my CD-R discs on it, but if you intend to, then look for another DVD player.

Bottom line, if you intend to buy a DVD player that would give you excellent video and audio quality at a very reasonable price and are willing to trade-off on certain other minor things, then this is the one to buy - no question about that.

Summary: can't play CD-R and a bunch of useless features
Review: I didn't even consider buying it simply because it cannot play CD-R. Audio experts agree that a DVD player plays CD better or at least as good as a CD player (due to it's ability to handle more complex data on a DVD). So a DVD is a great CD player also. However, the panasonic (Toshiba 1600 too) does not play music on a CD-R disk. My friend and I have dozens music CD-Rs that we burned from each others' CD collections. With many people burning music CDs these day, this is a bad omission. Also the inclusion of subwoofer jack is useless. Subwoofer should be connected to a receiver. If you connect a subwoofer to DVD player, then the subwoofer cannot be connected to other sources like CD player, VCR, etc. It's just stupid to include all these useless features. A good DVD player should have great audio/video performance AND simple.

Summary: A Great Entry Level DVD Player
Review: I don't have a digital-ready receiver so I decided to get a low-end DVD. I did a little DCD-player studying with the intent of purchasing a Sony S360 (my friend has one). We've watched movies together on it, and it was so much better than my PC DVD that I had to go get one. *+*I then learned that the Sony makes a weird whirling sound while playing. The sound continues as long as a movie is playing, and can be heard if the soundtrack of the movie is quiet.*+* Because of this reason and because I wanted to be different from my friend, I bought the Panasonic. I am VERY happy. It's small, lightweight, and doesn't have the audio and video gliches my PC DVD has. I'd say if you don't have a digital receiver or a receiver at all, buy this model.
