Summary: Magnavox DVD611
Review: Absolute Garbage! freezes, skips, refuses to load DVD, buttons on face or remote inoperable while DVD is stuck inside. Don't buy this, just returned mine to Circuit City and purchased a different brand. DVD's that wouldnt work, or worked poorly on Magnavox, work flawlessly on new Machine.

Summary: Caution!
Review: Be aware that you will need to buy a R-F Converter with this if you have a TV input with only 1 co-ax cable.
you will find this out after some of your copy procted DVD's won't play.
Read the fine print on page 8 of the Owners manual!
You have been warned, F. Chromzak

Summary: Philips DVD/CD Player DVD621AT
Review: I am a college student and this summer i decided i wanted to buy a dvd player for my dorm room...the Philips DVD/CD Player DVD621AT has been an excellent player...both in sound and video...have had absolutely no problems...any problem that might occur with video or sound would probably be from the tv or from buying cheap connection cords...do yourself a favor and buy quality heavy duty cords from radio shack rather than the (...) $5 from wal-mart...anyway...this is a great dvd player for a great price...

Summary: terribly frustrating machine
Review: I bought the magnavox thinking it had all the basic features I needed. But it constantly freezes on disks. We have to rent VHS if we want to see a movie and even our pampered DVD's that we own won't play all the way through. Maybe we just got a lemon, but it sounds like lots of people have the same problem. DVD players are no longer very expensive. Pay a little more to get a good one and forget about the magnavox. There's nothing more frustrating than missing the end of a movie because you've got a piece of junk.

Summary: Absolute piece of ...
Review: I bought this DVD player at a major retail store as part of a package deal (buy a cell phone, get a free DVD player). It's worth about just as much as I paid for it. I took the first one back, got a replacement, and would up returning both models. I finally purchasing the "cheaper" model made by Apex (the AD1500), which works great.

This DVD player skipped on almost every disk, even new DVD's. Sometimes it wouldn't even load the disk, or play past the welcome screen. I returned the first one because the player skipped so much it made movies unviewable. Returned the second one because the disk tray would get "jammed" and refuse to open while it was grinding away, literally, at a disk. Really scary.

If there was a "zero star" rating, I'd give it that, because 1 star is too much.

Summary: Excellent basic DVD player, but does NOT play VCDs!
Review: I bought this DVD player at Best Buy for a great price ... and have had no trouble in playing any DVDs, such as described in the negative reviews posted prior to this one. The picture looked great-very sharp-and the machine was easy to use. I actually have 2 DVD players; I bought this DVD player to use in my bedroom (so I only needed the basics) and I think this one is better than my other! If your purpose is just to watch DVDs and not to play VCDs or CD-R/CD-RWs, etc., this is a great machine. This Amazon.com review notes that this is a VCD player and it is NOT, so don't be fooled. One note: I did hook it up to my TV with audio/video cables I bought from Best Buy (RCA brand, stereo input/output cables, ...). I don't know if this had an impact, but FYI. The DVD does come with its own input/output cables and batteries for the remote.

(For the record: My other DVD player, an RCA, has the following problem: the contrast on-screen while watching any DVD will often turn from very very light to very very dark throughout the movie. Very annoying. But this may be because it was bought refurbished! Just an FYI if you're in the market for a basic machine, don't be cheap and buy something refurbished.)

Summary: horrible!
Review: I just was recently given this DVD player as a christmas gift. The DVD player worked perfict with great video and stereo sound when I got it, and only skipped on a few DVD's. Then in augest the DVD player just suddenly decided it didn't want to turn on anymore, and now I'm stuck with a broken DVD player. I tried to replace the fuse in the player but it still didn't want to turn on, and when I tried to contact Magnavox support, they had nothing on this issue. In my opinion, this player isn't worth your time.

Summary: Superb for it's price
Review: I recently bought this dvd player and I have to say it's incredible. It has the essentials of a good dvd player, but not all the capabalities of reading CD-R's and so-forth. It has great sound options. So, even if you don't have surround sound, it sounds acceptional. The only problem that I've seen is that when you mark your spot in the movie, it only stays there saved as long as you don't eject the dvd or turn the dvd player off. Besides that, this dvd is a great buy with great picture and sound. This is a must get for anybody who just wants a cheap dvd player that has the essentials fulfilled.
