Summary: Sony DVP NS300
Review: The reason why I will not give the player 5 stars is that I have had rental discs skip or stop. They often appeared scratch free enough but I'm no technician. However after taking the time to clean them they were playable. That said the machine is very good on visuals- if you want a lot of features then spend more. But this unit will give you an excellent picture. Until the people in charge allow us to have the 500% better, 1/10 the cost for making films Max 48 this is as good as it is going to get for home (or theater for that matter) viewing. And you don't have a lot of choice in the theaters. In my world it's Misery flicks to make us feel bad, Iranian Cinema and Bad Boys 10. If you're lucky they throw you something like The Apartment by Billy Wilder. Little more, little less. Any problem with the picture quality is that the people releasing DVDs do not take the time to get rid of scratches in the print or produce the best quality picture. This is not the fault of the player. Recommended for any one but people who want to do tricks or use it as a CD player- I don't know if it is good for that- I use an iPOD. However if you rent or have used a disc for a while you might want to clean them first with pledge or windex and let them dry. If you have scratches I understand that you can fix them with optical paint. Does this work?

Summary: Great DVD if you've got a 5.1 receiver already
Review: This DVD offers a great picture and with the digital outputs (both coaxial and optical), the sound couldn't be much better through my 5.1 Home Theater receiver. I have a Sony receiver, so I use the less expensive coaxial cable, but no complaints here. Why only 4 star then? I've experienced some bad video chips in some lots, so it took me four tries to get one to work more than 5 minutes, but if you get past the initial 1 hour burn in time, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Just REALLY inconvenient of you get unlucky like me (but obvious, if I didn't like the DVD player - I wouldn't have bothered to get to #4)

Summary: It worked great ..... until................
Review: This DVD Player was great, a 5 star marvel until 3 days ago, and now it doesn't work at all. "No Disc," it says, and the next thing you know, it's not a matter of a smudged disc, as I cleaned it. It's not a DVD-RW, it was the movie, Grosse Point Blank. Then the Big Lebowski. Then Independence Day, Face/Off, and the list grows. No warning, no signs, just suddenly, "NO DISC."

I don't know what the life expectancy of a Sony DVD Player is, but I have to believe it is more than 18 months.

Summary: Not bad
Review: We purchased this DVD player about 2 months ago, and we're happy with it (for the most part). I read another reviewer complain about color streaking while the DVD was playing. While watching "Pride & Prejudice", I noticed a yellowish-green patch along the left side of the screen that only went away when I totally turned the player off and restarted the movie. This has only happened twice since we've had it, but still- it's only a few months old. Other than that, this DVD player sets up easily and delievers a (virtually) clear picture. It's also reasonably priced. If you're in the market for a seriously high-tech DVD player, you should check out some other brands or models. If you just want something to play DVD movies on, this will do. But, ask SONY about the whole color streaking thing before you buy.
