Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF @)*)#$
Review: i bought this DVD player about a year and half ago because it had a glowing review on CNET. I bought it and it often skipped or froze with certain DVDs. I figured they were just scratched DVDs, but I have now realized that this thing overheats and skips or freezes with almost all DVDs. I can't watch more than 1/3 of a movie without it overheating and skipping and/or freezing.

Summary: great DVD player
Review: I have seen and heard great things about this DVD player. My friend has one and it is amazing, I just ordered one for myself and I strongly beleive that this will be a great investment. Hey you can even play games on it once you get bored of watching DVD movies all the time. Its the Best of 2 worlds in one.

Summary: Extiva is more than worth the money...
Review: I've had the Extiva for several months now, and I'm extremely happy with this product. The NUON processor opens the door for much higher quality DVD and some really cool features that I've found useful for DVD movies. Also, in 2001 they will have NUON-enhanced DVD movies (that will run on a regular DVD deck without the special NUON effects) which will add content to be accessed online, games, and more features(such as mulit-angles, and being able to fit deleted scenes into movies as they were always there). Also thanks to the NUON processor you get to play some really cool video games such as the totally addicting(and insane) game Tempest 3000, Freefall 3050 A.D., which is a futuristic police game that incorporates a completely new style of gameplay, Iron Soldier 3(1st person mech-combat), Merlin Racing(kart racer), Titan 3(space-car combat style game), and many others that appeal to every one in the family(with games such as Ballistic, The Next Tetris, Dragon's Lair, zCards(online 3D card game), aMaze, and others). Not to forget the very cool VLM-2 which adds a smooth light synth to your music CD's(no lame blank screen with numbers here). Net connectivity is coming (you can use the ISP of your choice and get 56k, Cable, or DSL) which will be cool. And finally, the NUON processor is upgradable via software, so you'll be able to upgrade features easily. Get the Extiva, you'll love it!

Summary: Solid Performance - Picture, Sound & HDCD A Plus
Review: Interesting that the 'professional' review wasn't that favorable. I find the picture quality is excellent, and the sound excellent as well. One plus that hasn't been dwelled on is the ability to play HDCD. High Definition (music) CD's have been encoded in a 20 bit format vs. 16 bits for 'regular' CDs. A lot of the newest CD's are recorded in 20 bit format, but are also downward compatible with the old 16 bit standard. The difference in sound quality is very noticeable, even to a non-audiophile. Go to hdcd.com for details. All in all this is a solid, well made item. It even says Good bye! when you power it off. Go buy one ...

Summary: The Future of DVD
Review: NUON really does add a whole world of features and customizations to an otherwise passive experience of watching DVD's. With a NUON-Enhanced DVD player such as the Samsung DVD-N2000 (or the Toshiba SD2300), you're brought to the next level of home DVD viewing. A number of special effects such as Snap Shot, 20X zoom, Action Capture and Smart Matrix, are currently avaliable, and the future promises NUON-Enhanced DVD's which are designed to take full advantage of what NUON can offer (Internet accessability, etc).

On top of all *that* you've got the ability to play some truly original games. The first batch, Tempest 3000, FreeFall 3050 AD, and Merlin Racing are all featured on the Demo Disk that's included with the Samsung "Extiva" DVD-N200 player. All three games really show promise on that demo disk so I've got high hopes for the final product. Until the games ship, I'll have plenty to do including watching the VLM2, DVD movies and wearing out that demo disk even more!

Summary: OVERLY HYPED PRODUCT.
Review: Reading the customer and trade reviews i was expecting a cutting edge product but what i instead received was a a product with useless features and outdated technology. For starters the main engine used for the DVD player is 5 times slower than my Sony DVD which was $150 cheaper and on some very demanding scenes there is a lot of pixelisation. The remote is a total joke because it takes 2 seconds for a command to go into effect and feels unituitive and the buttons are like a childs first computer. As far as the " special features",such as being able to zoom in on a certain area it is not available on all DVD s and even on DVDs with this feature it is very time consuming and complicated to work. The so called abillity to play games is a total joke because the graphics are comparable to the first Sega Genesis and the controller suffers fron the same problems as the remote, besides who would want to spend $40 to $50 dollars on outdated games you played 5 yrs ago. There a thousand more gripes but i do not have time,i would have retuned the product after 2 days, yes i hated it after such a short time, but i do not have the time to disconnect from my system and pay $40 for insured delivery to Amazon.
