Rating: Summary: Excellent DVD player for the price - great feature set/remot Review: I asked around to some friends before buying a DVD, and was recommended the 550D multiple times. the higher end models only give you changer control (multiple dvd's/cd's) but since i already have a cd changer, i didn't need to pay for that functionality. I have never had any issues with audio track and video track being out of sync, in fact it has worked perfectly. the remote control is intuitive, with multiple rewind and ff speeds. The slow motion also has multiple speeds, so you can go frame by frame with the jog function, or the system can move forward very very slowly front or back. full features, digital menus, most of the controls can also be done from the console of th machine itself. I play cd's in it all the time as well. Optical jacks and svid and coax, really offer flexibility when connecting to your stereo system. I especially like the built in dts decoding and dolby digital outputs. Very nice system!
Rating: Summary: A great DVD player.... Review: At first I was going to buy the Toshiba 3109, but changed my mind and instead bought the Sony 550d. I didn't regret one bit because this is a great player. I always been a Sony customer because of great quality and this is one of the reason why. It is a little on the expensive side but it has a built in decoder so for those who have reciever that don't have a decoder it's perfect for you. I love this dvd player. I've been stuck on the tv ever since I got this dvd player. Highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: ! WARNING - DO NOT BUY A SONY DVD PLAYER ! Review: I purchased my DVP-735 back in 2000. It was a wonderful "flagship" product, and I even rated it highly on a website such as this. However, since then it has been locking up in every movie that we watch (generally near the end). The irony is that a local agent - Next Electronics charged me > NZ$300 to have the pickup assembly replaced (with a 3 month warranty). Guess what - the damned piece of crap failed after 4 months - even worse than before. SONY, if you are listening, I am not too happy with your product or customer support. The local "Sony Centre" in Wellington seems to brush off faulty product that is beyond its warranty date. Every time my flatmates and I watch a DVD, it locks up - MOST EMBARRASINGLY! DO NOT BUY A SONY DVD PLAYER. If I could go back in time, I would have burnt the NZ$1,100 I spent purchasing this DVD player, rather than suffer its problems.
Rating: Summary: An exellent DVD Player with a DTS Decoder Review: I used to sell DVDs. If your looking fo a good DVD. Sony and Toshiba is the way to go. I bought this model over the Toshiba SD1200 becuase this model has a DTS decoder already in the unit. Which means you don't have to buy a receiver with DTS. So if you have a home theater or plan to buy a receiver for that purpose. You won't have to spend more money for the great sound of DTS. My friend who own the same model and I are very happy with the picture quality, as well as the many rca hook up in the back if you want to have this as a CD player for your Home Stereo. With Sony it is very hard to go wrong. And as a generation three it will play any DVD as of this was written.

Rating: Summary: This One Does It All! Review: For anyone who wants to have total control over what you're DVD movies look and sound like, this is the unit for you. Although the picture and sound are stunning. If you feel the need to make them even better, The 550 gives you virtualy unlimited control. And it will save the settings for two hundred discs. Just pop the movie in and all your adjustments are recalled. But beware if you are moving to DVD after years with a VHS that flashed 12:00, opt for a simpler player. Otherwise, you will be paying for a something that you can't control. The Sony 330 will deliver fantastic picture and sound, for $150 less. And, as far as the sync problems that many have reported, I have had the player for two weeks now and have had no problems what so ever. Even after checking out many of the reported problem scenes listed in other reviews. DVD is the future of home video. Don't take my word, just look around yourself. If you're ready to buy, don't wait. You won't regret it for a minute.
Rating: Summary: Elegant engineering, great video and audio Review: After hours of research online, I decided to trade in my JVC XV511 DVD player for this one. Of course, I read about the lip-sync issue, but I also found out that Sony has corrected the problem with a firmware update, and models currently at the store already have this update. It was evident from reviews that apart from the lip-sync issue, the player was blowing everyone away. Now, I have to add my voice to that chorus -- this product is amazing. Though the JVC had a great picture, the Sony's is absolutely stunning. With a component video connection, I see no flicker in fine edge detail, and the colors are so rich they leap off the screen. Setting up the 5.1 speaker output was easy, with an intuitive graphical interface. The remote is similarly intuitive, although it took me a few minutes to get used to the navigation button and jog wheel. The player feels solid, discs load very quickly, regular CDs sound excellent, and Sony has packed in a dozen small bonuses (like being able to save a favorite frame as the player's default display when not playing) -- all of which leaves me very satisfied, even amazed. With the lip-sync issue now resolved, and unless you want to spend twice as much money, you can't do better than this player.
Rating: Summary: C13 Errors Got You Down? Review: Bought this because of the Sony name and reputation. Since then, we have received the charming C 13:00 error many times. The DVD player we bought for $39 never fails to recognize a commercial DVD. Guess which product name brand we will never buy again?!? S O N Y Because they've done nothing to correct this--and they never will.

Rating: Summary: Another Recipient of the C-13 and No Disc error Review: I could not be more dissatisfied with this DVD player. I deliberately bought this higher-end (at the time) player to avoid problems like these. Thank goodness I bought a 5-year warranty on it. So far I have taken the player in 4 times, two times ago, they replaced the entire optical laser unit and it still resulted in the same problems. It skips and freezes during every movie now. I have friends who have also had problems with Sony DVD Players. Buyer beware!!!
