Summary: A perfect DVD Player except for the Lip Sync problem!
Review: This DVD player would be the ONLY choice in its price range if it weren't for the lip sync problem. It does not appear often, but when it does, it is very annoying. Sony is said to have a fix in place for August/September. I put in a call with their customer service dept. and they will contact me to have the unit sent in for repair. Even with this problem, it is the most solid, intuitive, and enjoyable player that I have ever owned or previewed. I checked out the Panasonic A120U and the Toshiba 3109, and the Sony 530 blew them out of the sky!

Summary: Currently the best video and audio I've seen on a player.
Review: Apparently, people are getting different features on their DVP-S530D. I've heard:

* No slow forward or reverse scan

* No quick drive feature

* No 5.1CH decoder on board

Mine has the slow forward and reverse scan both on the remote and on the JOG dial.

It also has a built-in 5.1CH decoder.

Sony's website claims this player DOES in fact have a quick drive with a fast stepper motor.

Maybe some features were not included on older models or maybe on models sold in other countries?

Anyway, this is an awesome player. It even puts out better video and audio than my friend's $700 player.

Summary: Great DVD player
Review: I have tried Samsung and Panasonic DVD players. Neither of these were what I expected. The Sony DVP-S530D is exactly what I have been looking for. The video and sound is excellent. The menu setup is outstanding. The remote is nice too. I have always trusted Sony. The lip-sync problem that everyone keeps talking about I havent experienced it yet. I paid 338 for it at Best buy. It is really worth the money.

Summary: Dont believe everything you read
Review: Dont get me wrong, this is an excellent machine, but, possibly the pros might give you the correct info on this product.
1- the DVPS530 does NOT have a 5.1 digital decoder onboard, that feature is only available on the DVPS550 at $499
2- The DVPS530 has a jog dial for slow motion advance and slow motion reverse, the synopsis of the disadvantage of this machine is incorrect.

Summary: All around great DVD
Review: For the price, to me this was a really great DVD player, accept for the same lip-synch problem other people are getting at some times. It is fairy easy to fix so it doesn't bother me that much for what the machine can do.

Summary: Sony has a fix for the lip-sync problem!
Review: I bought the S530 after getting tired of waiting for the S330 to be released. I am glad I got the S530 instead. The S530 not only has an onboard decoder, but it has component video and a headphone jack with volume. Dolby Digital surround sound rocks! I noticed the lip sync problem for the first time last night (I've watched over a dozen DVD discs). I thought it was a glitch in the DVD until I read the reviews. There may have been more occurances of lip sync if I was looking out for it. I called Sony. They said that they have a fix for the problem. You need to take the player to an authorized Sony repair place and they will repair the problem. The DVD player was the toughest component to integrate into my system. I needed to use a tos-link cable instead of coax because my receiver's digital coax port was only for laser disc players. Now everything looks and sounds fantastic.

Summary: Excellent for a home theater enthusiast with a budget
Review: This is my first dvd player and I like it very much. I also have noticed the lip sync, no big deal. The Dolby Digital (5.1 surround) Sound is EXCELLENT. Great value.

Summary: Sony 530
Review: The best and smoothest picture I ever seen on a DVD. Added with my Trinitron TV and its incredible. I've watched a dozen movies and never seen the lip-sync problem, I might have gotten lucky. The picture is so good that it makes all the VHS tapes look like crap. This model also has slow motion.

Summary: Own the Sony 550D model
Review: The "lip-synch" problem has shown up on my 550D model once while watching over 30 movies.

Other than this issue, the DVD player rates 5 stars!!!
