Summary: Lip-synch? yeah right
Review: Well, You're lucky you got into the making of the Matrix atall, the Matrix was one of the most defectively printed DVD's of theyear. It hardly runs at all on computer DVD players, and freezes up often when running special features. THIS player is not the problem - it's probably errors in the discs. For the money, this DVD player is the best you can buy. Sony rocks. E ND

Summary: almost perfect.. except
Review: THE GOOD NEWS. I bought my DVP-S530D a month ago. I have been very happy with the overall performance. The video is sharp, the audio is riveting. This model includes all the outputs you would ever need, plus a few you probably won't and they are flexable in the ways they can be easily programmed, further future-proofing this unit. No need to buy a new receiver to enjoy 5.1 dolby, you just need your older amplification & speakers for 3, 4, or 5 channel output. A powered sub-woofer raises the bar further. NOW THE BAD NEWS. I have witnessed the audio sync problem twice out of the 20 movies I have watched so far. About halfway through an affected movie the dialog will suddenly be delayed about 1 second behind the rest of the movie. The fix is to stop, then restart the movie. It takes 2 clicks on the remote, and about 3 seconds to to resume the movie problem free. This defect occured once per movie, and I was unable to recreate the defect in a reliable manner. I expect more from Sony and can't imagine that the released this unit not knowing of this defect. It's nice to hear that there is a fix. This is the only feature of this unit that deserves scorn (and a 1 less star rating> Everthing else about this unit is top notch. If you have not experience DVD yet I encourage you to check it out. Remember what happened to vinyl records? The same fate awaits VHS. The DVD format offers so much more.

Summary: I am returning this DVD
Review: I purchased the SONY DVP-S530D on 10/23/99. The first movie I watched was the MATRIX. Awesome movie. It looked great and sound great on my stereo. But then I watched the "Making of the Matrix" segment and halfway through Keanu Reeves mouth was moving but his voice did not match up with the video. After reading other lip-sync stories on Amazon, I am returning this lemon and buying a Toshiba.

Summary: IS THIS A BRUCE LEE MOVIE!
Review: I purchased the 530 in late June and after watching a dozen movies or so I recieved RAMBO FIRST BLOOD II with my 5 free DVD's.About ten minutes into the movie I thought I was watching a late night Bruce Lee flick. Thinking the setup was wrong I proceeded to make sure I was in 2.0 digital format and restarted the movie. {I still have a ProLogic Receiver, Sony STR-D1011}The problem went away until I purchased ConAir. At Chapter 10: Lerner Fieldonce again I thought Bruce was back in the present day image of Nicolas Cage. But after reviewing the comments at this site I now know what is happening to my movies. Thank you! Sony, fix the problem A.S.A.P. so I can feel confident I did the right thing returning my ProScan.{Divx was a great idea, but poor quality and lack of money from studios killed it} Bruce would be proud, I'm not. Fix the lip-sync because the picture quality is the best I've seen at $400 or less.

Summary: Awesome Picture and Sound, But.....
Review: I've had my Sony 530d about a month and never saw the dreaded "lip sync" problem til I rented "Blair Witch Project". I thought it might be the dvd til it showed up while I was watching "Tomorrow Never Dies". When it happens I just hit stop and play and rest of movie works fine. Annoying, but the awesome picture and sound makes it worth it!

Summary: Amazon, please leverage some pressure on Sony
Review: Would prefer no stars--I haven't bought yet. I have been monitoring these comments for two months, but am waiting for this lip-synch concern to be resolved. Whoever monitors this site from Amazon, can you please leverage some pressure on Sony to respond definitively on this? Will they have a reliable, working unit out by Christmas? What is Amazon's position on selling stock subject to this flaw? How will we know when this is resolved? Thanks.

Summary: Dump that VCR
Review: I purchased this unit. When I brought it home couldn't beleive the difference. I have this hooked up to an HK receiver and two Polk speakers. It is awesome!! Can't wait to add full surround. I have yet to experience the "lip sync" effect. Will wait and see......but it's going to be fun!

Summary: DVPS-530D
Review: Sony's DVP-S530D has a little problem that causes them to produce a lip sync problem. Basically you will likely experience the sound and the picture loosing synchronization inexplicably. So if you are considering this unit you should be weary of this problem for further info on this problem check audioreview.com

Besides that problem this is quite possibly the best of the $400ish dvd players I can say nothing bad about the picture quality nor the sound. Both beat hands down many other inexpensive DVD players in this price region.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I have had the DVP-S530 DVD player for over 3 months and I have played over 30 dvd's without this supposed lip-synch problem. I have had no problems playing Dolby Digital DVD's with my reciever that supports Dolby Digital, since that is the MAIN component that needs the decoder. Beyond that the player is great and I have had NO problems.
