Rating: Summary: No problems at all Review: I bought this DVD player and have had no problems whatsoever. The picture quality has been flawless, as has the sound. I have NOT had any lip-sync or fuzzy lines, etc.I have played both Austin Powers movies, Rounders, Contact, Pulp Fiction, and two Gratefuld Dead DVD's, along with an assortment of audio CD's. It did take me a little while how to figure out how to get the audio set up properly for 5.1, as the default setup when you buy it is for just two front speakers.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I purchased my SONY DVD Player back in August at a smaller, less reputable store, and to date I haven't had one problem with it. I've viewed over 23 DVD'S on it without any visual or audio distortion. I definitely haven't experienced the dreaded "LIP-SYNC" effect yet either, as noted in soooooo many previous reviews. Perhaps I was one of the fortunate ones to not have any of those problems. It has beautiful picture, color, audio, espeially the audio. What's amazing is that I have it connected to a switchbox and there is still no loss of visual or audio signal. Spectacular!
Rating: Summary: They Blew It & They Know It. Review: I'm a SONY freak. From my XBR projection set to my pro-DV cameras at work, it's all SONY. I love the company but they, like anyone else, can drop the ball once in a while. The lip-sync problem gets worse as time goes on because newer DVD releases employ the latest MPEG-2 codes which these players were not properly set-up to decode. So SONY will now pick-up via FED-EX any 530-550 player still under warranty and install a new processor chip and firmware and deliver it back home within 2-3 weeks free of charge. (Not Bad, right!) However, a buddy of mine had this done and it still has the lip-sync problem! Oh Nooooo! ..as Mr.Bill would say. Not sure what I'm going to do. My player is 3 months old. One other thing, this player will not play CD-R and CD-RW discs, the new PIONEER 626D's will. You may want to look into this one. I wish I did. Good luck out there!
Rating: Summary: Sony DVP-S530D: Powerful performance, no compromises... Review: The S530D has been a peerless performer since joining my home theatre system. The 5.1 Dolby Digital surround is crystal clear, and the image quality is stunning. I have experienced the sync problem on one of the first six discs I've tried ('Clerks'), and it disappeared after restarting the disc from the beginning of the chapter--certainly nothing that would make me want to return or service the unit. The unit has the look and feel of a tremendous piece of equipment. Fire it up with 'The Matrix', 'Seven' or 'Austin Powers' and impress your friends...
Rating: Summary: Still have it and NO PROBLEMS! Buy it! Review: I still have my Sony DVD player and have had NO PROBLEMS whatsoever! I have 15 DVD's with five more coming and I just love the DVD player! NOT all players have the lip synch problem and even if I did experience I'm certaintly not gonna send it back! The good would definately outweigh the bad. A simply awesome player that should be bought immediately by anyone wanting a DVD player real badly. Spectacular player!
Rating: Summary: Resaonable quality player could have been better Review: I just purchased mine 11/5/99. I have had the evil lip-sync problem on only one movie(A bridge to far),Ive played about 8 DVDs. One other note, The universal remote isnt, when it comes to JVC receivers. It would have been nice to control volume with the 530s remote. On the plus side it does control my Sony TV perfectly.
Rating: Summary: It is a decent DVD player, but I wish I could get my $ back. Review: The picture and sound are usually great, but every now and then I get an annoying green or purple light at the top of the screen. Also, when it is a letterbox movie, the top black section gets a shaky white fuzz. Maybe it is just my lasers or something? What do you think. I'm going to take it back to where I got it and get them to fix it.
Rating: Summary: great price and quality Review: I purchased this dvd player and for the money it is well worth it. Though I have experienced the lip sync problem only once (during "Saving Private Ryan--Special Edition"), the picture and sound quality makes up for the few gliches the system has.
Rating: Summary: Sony _will_ fix the sync problem Review: I've had this player for a few months now, and loved everything about it except for the occasional sync problem. Sony has fixed the problem on newer versions, and if you buy an older one you can take it to a Sony service center for a free fix (it requires a firmware update). A bit of a hassle, but it is free and they'll mail it back to you for free when it's fixed.
Rating: Summary: Excellent product except for the lip-sync problem. Review: I read about the lip-sync problems of the Sony DVP-S530d about a month before I bought it but went with it anyway because all of my other home theater components were Sony. I really thought that Sony would recall all units known to have the problem but they didn't. I've watched about 10 - 15 dvd's and got a hint of the problem in one movie but it quickly went away on its own. In the movie "Blast from the Past" it happened near the end of the movie and lasted about 5 minutes but went away on its own without stopping it. It is annoying to me, I find myself paying more attention to when the lip-sync problem will go away rather than watching the movie. I'd give it 5 stars if it weren't for the lip-sync problem. The 5.1 sound from "Saving Private Ryan" was outstanding....it is far superior in my opinion than the analog prologic I get from satellite.
