Rating: Summary: Most of these units break after 12-18 months Review: I was a happy S530D owner until a month ago when I began getting the dreaded "C13 00" error. It would not recognize any DVD I put in; even brand new ones.I did a web search and was amazed to find that many, many people who have bought this player (and Sony players in general) have had exactly the same problem after a year to a year and half. Sony refuses to do a recall and I've since bought a new player (not a Sony; I settled on a JVC XV-FA90), but I thought I should post my experience here. Buyer beware on this player; it has a very high rate of terminal failure. Drew
Rating: Summary: Pretty good Review: I had a problem with mine under a year after purchase. It was a problem with the power unit. Luckily I was still under warranty and got it fixed. It's worked great ever since. The only 2 issues i have are the lack of CD-R support, and sometimes i notice a slight audio sync problem, it seems to appear and disappear at random.
Rating: Summary: SONY DVP-S530D Review: Great dvd player. Two years and running strong. One drawback though; it won't read recorded music cd from cd burner.
Rating: Summary: a great dvd player. Review: I have never had any problems with this dvd player. I love it!
Rating: Summary: Feature packed and very dependable Review: I have had mine for over 2 years and it gets a very heavy workout from my kids (18 & 21) and myself. Takes all the abuse the kids give it, and still is working fine. I have no complaints. I have 3 other DVD players in the house, but this one gets the most use and is by far the best performer.
Rating: Summary: Should be ZERO stars Review: Lasted just under 18 months. Sony will never get another dime from me.
Rating: Summary: Not again Review: Mine is a just over a year old. Guess what? Yep, it's croaking. In fact, every Sony product I bought the past decade -- a phone, 2 portable CD players, a TV, and now this -- failed just after the warranty expired. I've finally learned my lesson.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful player Review: I've had this player for over two years. No complaints. One of the best DVD players of there in my opinion. It has served quite well in my movie watching. I highly recomend picking one up they are so choice.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best DVD Players by SONY Review: This is a great machine all around. What puts this ahead of other units is that you can pull up the DVD menu not only from the remote but also on the front of the unit. It even has a Jog-shuttle dial on the unit for Still, Pause and Frame advance which is very smooth. This unit even has a built-in 5.1 Dolby Digital Decoder for 5.1 Upgradable Receivers. You get a choice of Composite, S or Component video outputs. The remote works on all SONY TVs. Very, very good for the money.
Rating: Summary: Broken after 1 year of play. Review: I purchased this DVD player last year as a Christmas present for my son. The one year warranty expired on 12/23/00. On 1/3/01 this DVD player will not even start up. Brought it to the Sony Service Center and was told it would cost $169.00 to fix. So much for Sony quality.
