Summary: Philips 612AT DVD Player
Review: UPDATE: After having the dvd player less than a month, it started freezing up, and won't play movies now.

Also, ... says it will play CD-Rs/CD-RW/Video CD/etc..

It will NOT PLAY ANY OF THESE!!! It says so right in the manual you get with the DVD player, and I have tried them my self. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DVD PLAYER!!!!

Summary: Look to Sony for a smart buy
Review: Well, I have now bought 4 DVD players for separate locations about the house and by far, the Philips DVD621has been the biggest disappointment yet. Load time is frustratingly long, about 45 seconds to even recognize that a disc is in the drawer, then, you guessed it, more load time. The player does not offer any display for what chapter you are on and in more DVD plays than not, the movies begin skipping around an hour and a half in. I have also experienced "freezes" if a movie has been paused for more than about an hour. When I say "freezes," I mean the entire player locks up (including the power button) and the only way to reclaim your DVD is to unplug the unit. Avoid at all cost and buy a fast, reliable and features aplenty Sony.

Summary: frustrating
Review: When it works, this unit is very slow to load and operate. Even playing a music CD takes a long time to start. To select a specific track quickly required the remote.
When it is bad, it is very bad. DVDs frequently freeze. If you don't skip the scene immediately, you have to start the disk over. It has to be occasionally unplugged and plugged back in to get it to power up. Basically it reminds me of crashes on a popular operating system...

Summary: First DVD Player
Review: While I have watched DVDs on my laptop, I finally decided to invest in the real thing. This is not bad for the price. There is a short loading time and I felt a bit impatient about at first because I was used to videos just playing by themselves and actually missed the lack of control in playing videos.

At first I tried to hook up the DVD player to an older TV and that was not going to work once I realized there wasn't a DVD hookup on the TV. Guess how old that TV is.

Then I hooked up my VCR to the TV in the living room instead of the DVD player. It was dark behind the TV and the wires sort of got lost and I finally figured out I had the silly thing hooked up all wrong. What a night.

Once I finally got the wires hooked up to the right equipment, we were all set. After that, watching DVDs has been a breeze. I hardly notice the loading up time and really enjoy the control of a DVD player vs. a VCR. But hello, it is the year 2003. It was about time.

The instruction manual also shows you how to hook up the DVD player to your stereo system or a Dolby Digital Decoder.

By the time I'd figured out all the features on the DVD player (ok, just the blue buttons so far in the middle of the remote), I was into my third Buffy DVD. I decided to watch TV shows and DVD is the way to go.

It is pretty easy to figure out the fast forward options and you can fast forward from X 2 to X32 or use the Skip Buttons to get through chapters in case you hit the wrong button and end up at the beginning of the movie/show. Yep, happened a few times. You know what would really be good? If the remote lit up in the dark! How can one see anything with just candles burning.

This DVD player will also automatically turn off after 35 minutes of being ignored.

I like the simplicity of this model and the way the remote is organized. I thought I got a good deal for the price. Picture and sound quality are excellent and really, I have no complaints so far. If this DVD player gives me any trouble, I'll be back to complain.

Review: YOU CAN BUY THE TWO ITEMS AN ONE PACKAGE OR SEPERATELY
THEIR ARE ALOT OF DVD PLAYERS OUT THERE FROM A WIDE PRICE RANGE BUT WHY DO YOU NEED A DVD PLAYER THAT HOLDS 3 OR MORE DISK'S WHEN YOU CAN ONLY WATCH ONE AT A TIME. IF YOU WANT TO GET THE MOST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK THIS IS ONE OF THEM IT HAS ALL THE TYPES OF CONNECTIUONS THAT ARE AVAILABLE AS WELL AS BUILT IN DTS DECODER. FOR AUDIO THERE IS OPTICAL, COAXIAL OR RCA TYPE PLUG AND ANALOG STEREO. FOR VIDEO YOU HAVE THE COMPOSITE, S-VIDEO COAXIAL AND DIGITAL RCA. IF YOU OWN A PHILLIPS HOME THEATR. SYSTEM YOUR IN BUISNESS FOR A VERY SMALL INVESTMENT & YOU HAVE A FULL DOLBY DIGITAL, DTS, SURROUND SYSTEM THAT YOU CAN EVEN CONTROL WHICH INPUTS ON THE RECIEVER AND WHAT THEY CONNECT TO. IN OTHER WORDS. IT IS COMPLEATLY CUSTOMIZEABLE TO MEET YOUR NEEDS AND PACKS A VERY CLEAN 350 WATT 8 OHOM AC3\2.1 OR [ DOLBY DIDITAL SURROUND ] NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH DOLBY SOURROUND SOUND THOUGH IT DOES THAT AS WELL IT . THE DVD PLAYER HAS THREE ZOOM MODES AND IN PLAY BACK YOU HAVE STANDARD PLAY AND X2, X8, X12. AND FROM PAUSE YOU HAVE SLOW MOTION IN 1/2, 1/8, AND 1/16TH SPEED IN FOWARD AND IN REVERSE.IT HAS ALL THE STANDARD FUNTIONS SUCH AS TILT OUTPUT FORMAT SUBTITALS AND LANGUAGE AS WELL AS THREE DIFFRENT MONITOR SETTINGS INCLUDING WIDESCREEN, IT PLAYS ALMOST AL FORMATS OF DISKS SUCH AS DVD. DVCD, CD, VCD, CD-R' CD-RW, & I'M NOT SURE ABOUT MP3. THE QUALITY IS ASTOUNDING AND IS RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE BIG BOYS AND SINCE I SELL THEM I HAVE HAD A LOOK AT ALL OF THEM AND I BOUGHT TWO BRANDS A PHILLIPS DVD621 AND THE APEX AP 500DW. BETWEEN THE TWO I SPENT VERY LITTLE IN COMPAREISON TO ONE PLAYER. IT WAS LIKE A TO FOR ONE SALE. AND HAVE EVERY POSSIBLE FORMAT AND CAPABILITY THAT IS OUT THERE AND THEY AR VERY STURDY AS WELL I DROPPED THE PHILLIPS APPX 10 FEET ONTO CEMENT AND ALL IT DID WAS SCRATCH THE FINISH ON THE BACK WHERE YOU CAN NOT SEE IT AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY. THE REMOTE IS PROGRAMABLE AND THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOOK UP AR VERY EASY TO FOLLOW, EVEN FOR THE FIRST TIME BUYER. I RECOMMEND THESE TWO OVER ANY OUT THERE. AND IF YOU LOOK IN CONSUMERS REPORT BEST BUYS THESE ARE BOTH AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. THE REMOTE IS A LITTLE SMALL ON THE BOTTONS BUT IN 2 OR 3 DAYS YOU GET OVER THAT DUE TO THE QUALITY OF THE SOUND AND THE PICTURE, THAT IS PROVIDING YOU HAVE A GOOD TV/ MONITOR!
