Summary: good value for the money
Review: A couple people have written reviews trashing this player, which made me check the model number on mine because I've had none of these problems. <knock on wood here?> Mine has a great picture, is easy to use, and was very reasonably priced. If you're looking for a basic DVD player, I think it's a good choice.

Summary: Manufacturing problems
Review: After reading the other reviews here, I was hesitant to buy this model, but it was advertised locally at an unbeatable price, so I took the plunge. Unfortunately, my gamble didn't pay off because the unit has the same problem described in another review. It gets half way through a disc and then freezes. This happened on both a rental disc and a brand new one. Once the unit froze, none of the controls worked, including the power button and the only way to turn off the machine was to unplug it. While some units may not be defective, clearly enough of them are that you should consider something else. Mine's going back to the store to be traded for another brand.

Summary: Replacement DVD Update
Review: At first I was VERY upset when I saw the replacement. It was the SAME model number after Philips had told me that these models had a manufacturing problem, but I figured I'd go ahead and give it a shot. I hooked it up (that took maybe a whole minute) and started a DVD. It played beautifully, no lock-ups or skips. I am very happy with the quality and the performance of this player. Philip's customer server was wonderful through the whole ordeal and I would not hesitate to buy another Philips DVD player.

Review: Good deal. I had no problems with this DVD player. All the DVD's played great. Only thing I find to be a mild inconvience is that it loads the movie a little slow in the beginning. Otherwise no trouble.

Review: horrible product! I have been through 2 in 3 months. Philips customer service is terrible, and they do not abide to their warranty. I had to buy another unit by another company since Philips held mine for 2 months.Apex...inexpensive($) no problems.

Summary: A great player!!
Review: I also like this player a lot. Philips must have made two versions of this model, because I have had no problems with anything I have run. The Star Wars Spec. Ed. DVD choked my other player, but runs great on this model. I also ran Disney DVDs without any problems. As for the others, I had no issues with any of the discs I ran and I used it a lot after Christmas! Also
I has to call tech support about a feature I couldn't figure out and they were great! Good customer support is important and I wasn't disappointed.
The remote is fine, but I'd kill for one with lighted buttons. But all in all, this is a great player for those that just need a DVD player. It's well within a modest budget (like mine!) and should provide hassle-free use.

Summary: Philips Electronics = Bad Products + Bad Customer Service
Review: I bought a Philips DVD 621 player less than a year ago and it has stopped working. Like most people who buy electronic products I expected it to last longer than a year, but apparently Philips doesn't believe in their products past 90 days. This is why I recommend that you stay FAR AWAY from Philips products. Don't buy their stuff because there is a good chance it will quit on you and you're not going to be happy with what they tell you when you finally get through to them in their customer service.

Summary: Works good for me...so far.
Review: I bought this DVD player just before Christmas, as a Christmas present. Since Christmas it has been working flawlessly on old as well as new DVD's that just came out like the Princess Diaries. It *does* load a little slow, but other than that I have not noticed any skips or freezes so far.

Summary: This player STINKS!
Review: I didn't expect anything particularly special for my first DVD player, especially for the bargain price I got it at. BUT, I do expect it to work without jumping and or stopping in the middle of a movie. Nothing worse than being completely engaged in a flick when the scene starts jumping or stops completely. What a major dissapointment. Piece of junk, I reccommend spending a few extra 20's to get a better quality machine.
