Rating: Summary: Not really happy. Review: Purchased it to use mainly as a CD player with video thrown in as an extra. Using the analog outputs I hear a small pop between tracks. Do not hear this when using the digital outputs and a seperate D-A converter. When watching a DVD could not get 2 channel digital output.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional Sound & Video Quality. Easy to Learn to Use. Review: No complaints from me on this player. I hooked it into my Yamaha theater sound system and it rocks! I had no trouble learning to use the remote and each of the functions (skip and FForward included)...total of about 5 minutes and I was doing everything necessary from the remote. Highly recommend using either the S-Video or Optical outputs to get the best possible video.
Rating: Summary: My best purchase of the year Review: The player has performed exceptionally. If you have difficulty using the remote, hire a 12 year old to do it. Although a little tricky at first, it does work as advertized. The audio and picture quality are superb. I have confirmed that all media discs are not created equally. I have had to return a couple of DVD's due to distortion or hanging up but the replacements performed fine. I highly recommend this product to any movie or audio enthusiast.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best Review: I owned this DVD player for a couple of months and it's simply the best for the money I spend. The picture and sound quality are at the top of their field. The remote is not that hard to figure out. I bought mine off the internet which is fine but one should still go in a store and see for them self if they are thinking of buying a DVD player, that way you can compare products of intress. But once your research is done look around on the net.
Rating: Summary: Great player, some features confuse others Review: If you hit skip once, it takes you to the beginning of thescene, hit it once more to get to the previous scene, but you have to hit the skip button the 2nd time fast, or it will just start the scene over again. You can get to the previous scene by just hitting skip 2 times in a row very fast. This is not that hard people, it is very easy to figure out. I agree it will take little time to get used to, but after watching one movie, you should be able to figure it out.
Rating: Summary: Great player, great price Review: If you hold the skip button for a moment it goes to 2x, tap it again, it fast forwards to 8x, and once more for 30x. I am only 15, and it took me two minutes to figure out the basic commands. Of course you need a reciever to get dolby digital and dts. This player has very good picture and sound quality, and is very easy to figure out. If you cannot figure it out, do some research or read the book that comes with this player. I have encountered zero problems with this player. Thank you for your time.
Rating: Summary: partial retraction and apology Review: Stephen Sigourney is correct, unfortunately that feature is NOT easily found in the manual, which I did go through carefully. Still a very frustrating consumer experience. This feature needs to be made more obvious. Even the salespeople in the high end home entertainment store where I bought it did not know how to make the feature work. They were under the impression that this Toshiba did not have fast scan capability, so this was far from a case of the instructions not being read.
Rating: Summary: A poorly designed, unreliable DVD player Review: I've had this player for about six months. About 15% of the DVDs that I own have at least one feature that can crash this player, when that happens the only way to reboot it is to hit the switch disk button, none of the other buttons will work. The remote control design is pathetic, half of the buttons are hidden by a cover, and are virtually inaccessable. The skip and fast forward functions are combined on a single key, to fast-forward you must hold down the skip button for several seconds, if you don't hold it down long enough it skips to the next scene. The skip backwards function doesn't work, it can only return to the start of a scene, not an earlier one. So if you accidently skip to the next scene you must restart the movie from the beginning.
Rating: Summary: Dolby Digital, DTS, Component Video Out, HDCD. Great! Review: Dolby Digital Decoder, DTS, 5.1, Component Video Out, HDCD, Dual Disc. Great! What else are you looking for in this price. I think this is the best buy for the price.
Rating: Summary: Best Purchase I've Made In Years!!! Review: I purchased the Toshiba-3109 about a month ago and have been very happy with it since then. Great features for the price...DD5.1 decoding/DTS/HDCD/Component Output/Dual Disc loading trays...basically everything you could ask for. It plays the Matrix flawlessly (a disc that many players are having trouble with). A previous comment mentioned that the player only has a 1x fast forward...that is COMPLETELY WRONG!!! The fastforward and fastrewind have 2x 8x and 30x speeds...it's a shame the player was returned only because the instructions were not read. Highly Recommended!!!!
