Rating: Summary: Great Player Review: I've had my 120 for about 2 months and have watched about 30 DVDs(sometimes 2 or 3 in a row). I have had no problems or glitches at all. The picture and sound are excellent. After a lot of reading it seems to me that many dvd players from all different companies have their problems. I don't think you can say all Panasonic or all Sony DVD players suck based on a few defective players. Most people have horror stories about at least one of the major brand names. I always get an extended warranty anyway just to be safe. By the way, I've checked a lot of other sites and this seems to be the only forum with any negative things to say about the Panasonic 120. Anyway, I love my 120 and recommend it without reservation.
Rating: Summary: Do your homework before you buy Review: I bought the A120 2 months ago and already, after only playing about a dozen DVDs, there are problems. It appears that my A120 has problems reading the second layer of a "dual" layer DVD. After doing some reading and talking with a lot of friends, most DVD players have problems. With some Sony products, the video and audio are out of sync! I wonder why this type of information does not appear in Consumer Reports? Do your homework! I like Panasonic but DVD is far from being defect free.
Rating: Summary: Excellent DVD Player Review: I had initially purchased Pioneer DV525 which is also a nicemodel in the sub $300 range. However I switched to A120 because Ineeded a DVD player which could switch "black level". DV525 doesnt have that option. Also 525 is noisy compared to the A120. I have played over 30 Dolby Digital 5.1 DVDs (mostly rented)and did not find a single glitch either in picture or audio. There was no lip sync problem either. The picture quality is great (I have a Sony WEGA, which also makes a difference!). As far as audio is concerned, it plays regular audio CD perfectly (almost). However compared to 525, it is slightly behind in "crispness" of the sound. I have the player hooked to a Yamaha Dolby Digital receiver via an optical cable (Monster)and the S-Video goes straight into the WEGA. The disc loading time is also very small which is nice. You don't have to wait for ages to get the disc loaded. One aspect of A120 which I did not like is that you cannot change the audio/video settings while you are playing the disc. The Pioneer DV525 does let you change picture modes and audio settings while the disc is being played. Also, I wish the A120 had an amber display instead of white. Oveall an excellent buy for sub $200 price. I dont think any other player would come even close to this ! If you can get it for even sub $230, BUY IT.
Rating: Summary: Good Player Review: Many people think that this player skips a lot, and that it isa piece of junk. This player delivers the quality I expect from a DVDplayer, and the remote is pretty good. The only problem is that it does not play Recordable CD's only ones you buy in the store.
Rating: Summary: Makes a great doorstop. Review: I was once Panasonic's biggest supporter, always the first to suggest their products to those in quest for quality electronics. However after purchasing this DVD model, I can no longer. After one year of faithful service (coincidence that it's the same date the warranty expired?) the optical pickup went south on me, and now the player will only play 1/3 of my discs (and even then not very well). I picked this model because of its high reviews, so it was all the more shocking to me when I saw other reviews here about the same problem, but if your considering purchasing a Panasonic DVD player, be forewarned.
Rating: Summary: Better than I expected Review: Initially when I read a few user reviews I was a little confused as to whether I should buy the Panasonic A120. I had to choose between Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic. I took my chances and went with Panasonic. Things have worked just fine for me. The picture and color are rich with life and sound quality is excellent although I have an older 25 inch TV (1993). I connected the audio outputs to my stereo system and the effect is fantastic. The connections are easy to make and the entire setup takes no more than 15 minutes. It is great buy for under $250. I highly recommend it. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: Just wanted to go on the record... Review: I've had this DVD player for about 9 months now I've played over fifty DVD's (purchased and rented) and haven't had one that wouldn't play yet. I've also used it as a full-time CD player, God knows how many CD's it's played (perfectly, I might add). The only problem I've had is that it does freeze up for a second sometimes and then continues. I assumed this was because it was changing layers. I took off a star for it but it's really no big deal and only happens on a few movies. I'd expect for from it if it was a "flagship" model but it's not priced that way, and for the price I feel it's a good deal.
Rating: Summary: Good Picture, Good Sound, Great Price Review: I bought this player about 3 months ago, and have had great luck with it. I have a Zenith 27" TV, so the speakers aren't all that great. This great machine EMULATES MUCH better sound over my existing tv speakers. I was VERY impressed. The picture was great too, no complaints at all. It also shipped relatively fast.
Rating: Summary: My review after owning for five months Review: I bought this product back in August after seeing all the negative reviews about Sony's products. At the time the 120 had all positive reviews so I felt comfortable about buying it. I did not want to spend more than $ on any DVD because I know I'll be buying another as soon as you can record with them. I was really surprised by all the problems I've read about recently. Did Panasonic change something in their manufacturing in September? I have had no problems with any DVD's or CD's. This includes all movies from Alien to Saving Private Ryan DTS. Once in a while a movie will freeze for about 1/2 a second and then continue without problem. Usually I ask someone if they noticed it and then forget about it. But in light of all the problems I've read about I decided not to take a chance this Christmas and gave 2 Pioneer DVD players as gifts. So I am satisfied but if problems do occur in the future, I will repost a review. Hope this helps.
Rating: Summary: BAD CHIPS IN PANASONIC DVD players! Review: It seems there is a trend here. I also loved my Panasonic player until it melted down - just like the others in these reviews. The repair guy says he can order a new board (as the chips aren't replaceable) for $150 - total repair price over $200. I bought it exactly 13 months ago - so much for a one year warranty. Panasonic won't admit to any problem with these chips and won't repair it under warranty. If this many machines are going bad with exactly the same symptons (pixelization, sound cutting in and out, then locking up), shoudn't Panasonic step up and recall them or at least honor the warranty one month over the date? I am buying a Sony and will never buy Panasonic again.
