Summary: Great player for those new to DVDs
Review: My boyfriend and myself purchased this unit... We are extremly pleased! The sound and picture quality is wonderful and so far it hasn't rejected any of the DVDs we've thrown in. The remote was easy to learn, as was the basic menu options. We both are enjoying all the extra features DVDs can have and it has made a nice edition to my home theatre. I have not tried any other formats in it yet, but I bought a DVD player to play DVDs! All in all I have to say it was a great value for the price and I am looking foward to slowly learning everything it can do!

Summary: HORRIBLE SERVICE!
Review: My DVD player skips, freezes, and there is no sound out via the optical output. All this within 1 year. When I shipped it to Phillips to be repaired, they sent it back, told me to ship it to a different address (different from the one they had originally told me to ship it to - as they had changed their policy but not notified me!), ... for an 'upgrade'. I saved my money and bought another DVD from another manufacturer. I'll never buy Phillips or Magnavox again!

Summary: 4 years and still love it
Review: My DVD711 was used a grand total of 4 times when the laser reader died. After writing of my experience to Philips, they pretty much told me they were very sorry. Sorry doesn't walk the dog. BEWARE buying any Philips product becasue they obviously don't stand behind their work. Add this to the fact that they're pricey compared to other brands and there is no reason whatsoever to choose Philips.

Summary: Philips DVD 711AT player - The good little DVD
Review: No special song and dance here. I went to Consumer Reports and they recommended this unit at the #4 spot. The differences between the top 4 were quite small in their appraisals of performance. I found one of these used ... and FACTORY reconditioned, so I bought it. Really is a very good quality and a good deal (and I am satisfied with the price too!). Came with a factory warantee, with all the cables, a remote, batteries, and an owner's manual! I was playing DVD's inside of ten minutes!

Summary: Everything we wanted and MORE!
Review: Our first DVD purchase was a Samsung...we returned it within a week. I did research on the internet to find an affordable, yet reliable DVD player. We purchased the Phillips DVD-711. We have had it for almost a year now. We haven't had any problems with it! It is reliable and once you hook up the optical cable, the sound is better than the theater. You won't go wrong with this player!

Summary: No Regrets
Review: The Philips DVD711 player has been a great investment. As an avid movie watcher, I've enjoyed the beautiful picture and sound quality that this player provides. To top it all off, it comes with a very reasonable price tag. Hook it up to your surround sound system and you will not regret this purchase.

Summary: Even I Can Work This One
Review: The Phillips DVD711AT is a great system. You get more options for the price than almost any other DVD in it's class. It takes some getting used to with the new menus but once it is set up the way you want it you should be off and running - DVD's. I was even able to hook it up to my TV and receiver with only having to rehook-up one cable. If you are considering a DVD I would certainly recommend this one. If you are considering any DVD vs. VHS - there is no comparison.

Summary: Cheap but functional
Review: This is a cheap DVD with all the basic functions. Works okay! However, get something else if you are looking for a high quality system.

Summary: Broke after three
Review: This item broke after just three movies. The door jambed. Would not open.
