Rating: Summary: Works as a dvd player, but not as a portable Review: The player is very durable physically, which was a pro for me, but I discovered alot of downsides that outweigh the good. For starters, the picture was o.k. most of the time, but when viewing dark-lighted movies (ex. scene at night) you couldn't see anything at all-the screen is naturally dark and you can't change its brightness levels. Two, you can fastfoward, etc. but you have to be careful doing so-if you press the skip button instead of holding it, you just skip to the next scene. Worst of all, though, is that the battery dies permenently very quickly...after charging and watching it about 5-10 times, the battery refuses to be recharged, and now I can only use the player when its hooked up to the adapter-which defeats the purpose of it being a portable player(and I do not want to shell out over $100 for a new battery; I doubt most be people do). More for the last reason than anything else, I suggest against buying this product.
Rating: Summary: Amazon has the tech details wrong Review: The Toshiba SD-P1200 does indeed have a pair of built-in speakers. Look at the black dots on the set top next to the broad black band. True, they're not great speakers but they are there. Also there is a built in A/V input jack which allows the use of the 7inch screen and speakers by other video sources(like video cams or VCR's). It's a good little set and the A/V input jack makes it far more useful than the average portable DVD player.
Rating: Summary: horrible horrible unit Review: These 7" inch portable dvd players are horrible. Sure, the design is cool, but the unit itself is very unreliable, with absolutely no shock protection (any outside force will cause it to shut off, and you'll need to re-start it). The case to open it with is way too flimsy, and the picture is too rough and pixellated. If you really want a portable, you should either go with higher end units (Samsung L100 is the best IMO), or lower end units (try the Panasonic 5 inch players or the toshiba sd1000). In the portable dvd player world, there is no middle ground.. Definately not worth a buy. The SD-P1200 is cheap for a reason!
Rating: Summary: Disgusted Review: This DVD player is horrible. I had the thing 1 week and the battery takes a crap. Two weeks and the video feed takes a crap I cant believe that Toshiba would put such junk out on the market and try to charge 400 dollars for something that wont even last past its 30 day warranty. If you want a good working portable DVD player than dont buy this hunk of junk.
Rating: Summary: archie Review: This is a great player. The screen is awesome. Don't let the pixel resolution deceive you, it's better than most screens i've seen. The colors are sharper, and the viewing angle is wider. Sound from the speakers is only fair, but with the headphones it's great. The quality is very good and solid. Never skips. battery life is as rated 3.5 to 4 hours, but recharges faster than advertised, about 3 hours. All in all excellent and well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Don't Buy Unless You'll be Using Headphones Review: Use in any venue with any amount of noise was not possible with the unit I purchased, unless one used headphones. Unit felt cheaper than I would have thought based on visual design. Screen was fine. Returned it....liked my three year old Panasonic with tiny screen better.
Rating: Summary: Poor Quality, Battery Worthless Review: Used 4 times then battery would not charge and warranty would not cover it. Replacement battery is $117. Don't be fooled by nice look, this is a rip-off! I have found Toshiba to be a good mid-line brand but this is the last item I will buy from them. Send me $50 and you can have it!
Rating: Summary: Completely Disappointed to say the least Review: What can I say. I got this machine to replace another portable DVD player that broke after 6 months of use. This one didn't even last one day. I stuck in a 'single layer' DVD, it played for 60 minutes then froze. Tried restarting it, it didn't load the disc. Put in another disc, didn't load either. In fact, no discs load on this untit at all after 60 minutes of use! Bought it Saturday, going back to the store today. Likely a lemon, however, my recommedation - wait a few years for the technology to pick up. Right now all 7" dvd players are unreliable in the mid to low price range. Not worth it.
