Summary: Excellent non-progressivescan, basic single-disk player!
Review: Color, clarity and audio of this unit are all superb, industry standard for DVD players (on JVC 32" TV w/ S-video cable + Cambridge Soundworks speakers).

If you do not have an HDTV or are not going to acquire one in the near future, no need to pay extra for progressive scan capability.

As advertised, this unit faultlessly reads DVDs burned on recent PC optical drives, in my case, archival backup DVD+Rs produced with DVD X Copy Gold on FujiFilm disks. Note well: the whole technology of burning DVDs is immature and people with slight differences in equipment and media obtain wildly different results - be forewarned; your milage will vary!

The only minor limitation of the JVC XV-N30BK DVD Player is that the Remote cannot open the disk drawer (but does close it via the "Play" button) - otherwise, its performance is simply beyond reproach and as a whole the unit is extremely priceworthy.

Summary: Very Good
Review: DVD player works great. I switched to this brand after a bad experience with a different brand. Everything works great with this player.

Summary: Value for money
Review: I am really not a JVC fan, and this was my first JVC product. It is a medium market level product, without most of the cutting edge technology. It is marketed as a DVD player without too many frills and it delivers just that. Plays almost any DVD rewritable format (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW) and SVCD, VCD, CD and MP3 CD. I had a problem with an Imation DVD+R, it plays on my older sony dvd but refuses to be read on the JVC. User interface is clean and intuitive, with minimal setup. New disc read speed is very quick, and so is the resume; From power off to resume play is less that 3 seconds, which is impressive.

Overall, excellent product at a excellent price for a non - prgressive scan machine.

Summary: Sleek and Total value for money
Review: I got this DVD player (...) about 6 months back and I am very happy with it. This DVD player works great. I think this is one of the best Single Disk DVD players. I tried playing various formats (DVDs, VCDs, and DVD+R)and it flawlessly reads all of them. Its on-screen menu options are very easy to use. If you do not plan to own an HDTV in near future, this is the best bet.

Summary: Piece of CRAP!
Review: This is a very, very good DVD Player... by the time it was alive. I buyed this DVD Player, and at first it worked pretty well, the image was excelent and the audio too. After watching 2 movies it just STOPPED WORKING!!! Now each time i turn on the power and enter the DVD-Movie, the power goes off and i had to disconnect the power cord and a few minutes later i connected it again and when i pressed "PLAY" it showed on screen the "NOW READING" message, and IT TURNED OFF AGAIN!. I strongly recomend you to DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP! and buy another like SAMSUNG, SONY, PHILIPS, or TOSHIBA.
