Summary: good quality player
Review: I've researched these portable players for 3 days, reading about them on line and going to all the electronic stores at the mall.
This one seems to be the best for quality, and the picture is really clear. The ones I looked at at Walmart and all the other stores were Audiovox and Initial brands and they felt flimsy to me ,this mpd 700 is heavier and I feel it's just better made.
This Magnavox MPD700 cost a little more than the other 7"portables but it's worth it.We purchased 2 small computer type
speakers at Radio Shack $10, to plug in to it.We like to watch a movie or cooking Dvd in the kitchen. The built in speakers are fine if your sitting somewhat near to the player, but we just wanted to enhance the sound for a better sound for at home use.
The speakers with the unit are fine for car and plane use.
We also used the player as a dvd player hooked up to our t.v.that was pretty neat too.

Summary: Piece of Junk
Review: Ok. We bought the MPD-700 last year (May 28, 2004). It suddenly stopped working two weekends ago (January 29, 2005 - when we had no power due to an infamous "Georgia Ice Storm" and the kids needed to watch Barney and Dora the Explorer). The unit either says "Loading" while spinning endlessly, or says "No Disc" and stops spinning. I called Magnavox customer support and they first said that it was outside of the 90-day warranty. I told them that I had the warranty right there in my hand and that true, the *first* part of the warranty expired after 90-days, but that the second part of the warranty (where you send it back to them for a replacement for a "preset exchange fee") extended through 1-year post-purchase. After being put on hold for five minutes, they came back and said, oh yeah, you are right. I asked them what the "present exchange fee" was, and they said $250.00! This is more than what I paid for my unit! Needless to say, I will never buy another Phillips (parent of Magnavox) or Magnavox product again. I will be contacting my lawyer to see if my state (Georgia) laws provide any greater warranty protection than what came with the unit. I would not recommend Magnavox to anyone!

Summary: Battery life is to short
Review: This is a great DVD player when you have it hooked up to a power outlet. But I have yet to get through a whole movie on just the battery. The longest time I've gotten yet is 1h 20m.

Summary: Above the average portable DVD player
Review: We did a lot of research before purchasing this Magnavox MPD700. A lot of the other brands were flimsy, or they were lemons. We trust Magnavox--our tv, vcr, and stereo are Magnavox, and we've never had any problems from any of them.

The player seems pretty sturdy. Although the lid that covers the DVDs while they are playing seems like a thin metal, from what I've read, this is much better than some of the competitors' lids. It's done fine, even with our kids kicking it from time to time.

The features included with the player are very nice. Having AC/DC adapters and a battery means our children can watch their movies pretty much anywhere. The remote is handy, and (most importantly) the picture is crystal clear (and can change from widescreen to fullscreen at the touch of a button) and the sound is too.

Another reason we bought this model is a game console can be hooked to it. Of course, it can output to a tv, but we wanted to hookup our video games to it and play on the road. We did need an adapter (visit to local Radio Shack), but it works flawlessly.

We did pay a little more for the name brand, but we haven't had a single problem out of it, and we've had it for a few months (and used it on a 4 day trip). It had the features we wanted, and its performance has been excellent. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.

Summary: Great Product
Review: While researching different models of portable DVD players over the past few weeks, this is the best one by far. The resolution is very clear for color and black/white DVD's. The fact that it plays DVD+RW & DVD+R discs was a big selling point because I have also recently purchased a Philips DVD Recorder (DVDR 75). The sound in general is very clear. No struggeling to hear it. The surround sound is another excellent feature. All around great product.
