Summary: Excellent player
Review: I bought this player as a secondary player because my Panasonic DVD couldn't handle most brands of DVD-R disks or PAL disks. So far I like CyberHome 300s - it played nearly all DVD-R disks that I tried. Image quality is pretty much perfect - I can't tell the difference between this player and the one that cost me 5 times as much. PAL playback on 4:3 NTSC tv is just fine - while I saw some intermittent artifacts I didn't have any of the problems that some other reviewers claim. The player is very small - it is smaller than my cable box. In fact, it is the smallest DVD player I have ever seen. One thing that could be a problem is the operating temperature range. The upper limit is at about 95 degrees according to the manual. If you put the player in a poorly ventilated home entertainment rack it could potentially malfunction. 6.5 Watts for standby power consumption is probably slightly above average. Not everybody lists it but my Yamaha reciever, for example, has 5 Watt rating.

Summary: Best DVD Player for the money
Review: I'm sorry to see that a few people have had negative experiences with this unit. I found it at Best Buy for only $35-, seemed like they were blowing them out as a loss leader just to get traffic in the store for the holidays. I wasn't even looking for a DVD player, but a small progressive scan player for $35-, wow...this I had to have and try. When I took it out of the box I was surprised how small the unit was, felt like just a few pounds and looked more like an external dvd or cdr burner. So, did it work and what was the picture quality like??? YES, I've never had a problem playing any DVD with this player. The progressive scan also works,but I haven't extensively tested it. The component video output is excellent. At this price point and size there have to be some compromises, so don't expect digital sound output (no optical or coax sound outputs), but all 3 video formats are available (S-Video, Component, and Composite). For the money you can't go wrong. I haven't tried burning a CDR with all my photos, but I'm sure it will work. I still look at the unit and remember the days when a remote control cost $35 to replace, and here they throw in the DVD player. I'd have to say try it and see if it works for your purposes.

Summary: A piece of junk!
Review: I got this unit for Christmas and did not use it until a few weeks ago. The first dvd played was fine. Then had problems with a second dvd (skipped frames throughout), so I thought it was corrupted and Amazon graciously sent a replacement. Recently I tried to play another dvd (which I have played several times on another unit) and the same thing happened. The light bulb went on! Don't waste your time. This unit may be cheap but not worth the aggravation.

Summary: Terrible playback quality on low-rate DVDs
Review: I have attempted to play some low-bitrate DVDs (i.e. VCD-quality recordings on a DVD disc) and the video output is jittery and unwatchable! Beware!

Summary: 5 months later... poof ...it works NO MORE!
Review: WTF... Like many others, I purchased this as a second dvd player (for my bdrm) at a very reasonable price... Well, you get what you pay for! It came out to about 10 bucks a month! I didn't care that it didn't have all the snazzy features of many of the other dvd players out there. I just wanted to watch my movies! So I guess now I will go out and do real research and purchase a higher end dvd player just so it will last over 25 movie viewings! I would never recommend this player to anyone!!!!!

Summary: I would give this -1 star but it doesnt let me
Review: This dvd player is absolutely horrible!! I bought it because it says it plays all dvd formats - + r and rw, and most of the dvds I own are burned..well it played them but only the first few scenes and then they skip and get stuck... They play absolutely fine on my new panasonic dvd s25s I just bought..all formats even when the product only advertises that it plays dvd-r's... I guess you get what you pay for

Summary: Cheap player that does almost everything
Review: It does playback PAL DVD on NTSC TVs. I tried quite a lot region 1 or all region PAL DVDs and no problems although I don't understand why using PAL on region 1 (US and Canada) DVDs. Playback (non progressive) is smooth and trouble free so far. It has almost all the features you can find from an expensive DVD player except Digital Optical Audio output and decoded Dolby Digital output. It does have Digital Coaxial Audio output to send digital audio signal to a receiver. The unit is featherweight and very portable. A little bigger (wider) than an external CD-ROM driver. The fixed power cord (cannot detach at the player side) can be a problem if you will move the player often. The disc tray feels filmsy but probably no worse than trays on your PC DVD drive. The player consumes very little power in use but surprisingly has 6.5W power consumption (from spec) when standby. Cannot say too much about the reliability but it's cheap enough so I probably won't get mad if it breaks when it's out of warranty. Will try some MP3 and JPEG playback later. I bought Cyberhome CH-DVD500 about a year ago but the MP3 feature was faulty, JPEG playback quality was terrible and I retunred it. The remote control is plain stupid! It uses button battery which is very expensive to replace and naturally I have concerns on battery life. All the tiny buttons are in the same size and you really have to look at it every time you use it. I may get spoiled by my Toshiba DVD player remote controller that has an excellent button layout and shape. I just grab it and know where is the button I want to push. Is a better remote controller really so hard to make? What is the manufacturer thinking? We all have pointy fingertips with pinpoint accuracy?
Well, at least the remote controller works well in reasonable range. A capable DVD player desperately needs a better remote controller.

Review: you must have progressive scan on your tv..You can't use component either...You must use the 3 cheapies that come with machine..I could'nt figure out the problem...But i kept reading...See section on progessive scan(important)I used component wires but hooked up the same as cheapies...If you get in trouble just hold stop button for 5 seconds.....cool region moies on play com...

Summary: not worth a dollar
Review: This DVD player is probably the shoddiest piece of electronic equipment i have ever bought. It feels very tinny and cheap when you pick it up and what's more, after three months - conveniently when I was unable to return it - it just stopped reading my DVDs. I suppose the price is nice, but you get what you pay for. And I certainly wasted the little money that I did spend on this player.
