Summary: great for the price, but a few features are lacking
Review: After a month of research, I settled on Philips DVD-727. It's a good player, but it does have its drawbacks...

(...).

VIDEO: You will be surprised be the video quality of this unit, esp. when set to progressive scan.

AUDIO: Not bad, but could be improved... CD playback sounds a little hollow. MP3 playback is pretty bad, plus it only shows you the first 10 or so characters of the file name. :(

INTERFACE: there's only a play, pause and stop button on the unit. If you want to listen to CDs on this thing, you have to use the remote to change tracks. :( the remote is cluttered, and there's not many touch cues to help you locate buttons.

FEATURES: very customizable and hackable. very quick machine too. the "3D sound" features are pretty poor though. :/

VERDICT: best DVD/CD/MP3 player (...)

Summary: Don't Waste Your Money
Review: This system worked fine until the 90 day warranty ran out. Then you can pretty much guarantee that movies will freeze up and lock up entirely. The only way to fix the problem is to turn off the power, turn the power back on, eject the disk and put it in a different DVD player.

I called Philips to have this unit replaced, and it would cost me an additional $39.99. That's about half of what I paid for it in the first place. (I had called about it previously and they were going to replace it free of charge, but I never received the information they said they were going to send me, and when I called the second time, they had no record that I had called the first time.) I wished I had bought another Panasonic player instead of Philips. I've had zero problems with Panasonic. No more Philips products for me:)

Summary: This system is a must have!
Review: This system will play everything you trow at it, including CD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+r/RW. And it easily unlocks into Region Free mode by ejecting and slowly pressing 99990. And the price is awesome! Simply put it this system ROCKS!

Summary: Works as advertised incl German DVDs
Review: I ordered it Sunday, it arrived Friday (same week)by standard shipping. I had it hooked up via Digital Coax and 3-Component video in less than 10 minutes. Picture and Sound are great! I set it to Region 0 (i.e it plays DVDs from Europe and Asia. Even the ones that don't say "All Regions". I have a bunch of German DVDs). The Region 0 setting is not described in the manual.
Open the tray, type 9 9 9 9 0 slowly on the remote. Then it played the DVDs no problem.
The start-up time (on to playing the picture) is a litte longer than my previous player, but not very annoying.
Overall I love it!

Summary: plays everything
Review: multiregion(somebody else explain it before me),CD , CD-r, CDRW, VCD, SVCD, DVD, DVDr, DVD+RW, JPEG, MP3, MP3 and JPEG at the same time. You can't play DVD-R/RW(I really do not care) and do not support WMA files (you won't need it since you can use MP3 ) . Sound perfect, image perfect. Buy it, it worths more than the 90 bucks.

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: I replaced my older Pioneer DVD player with this one and trust me guys, it's awesome. And I definitely don't mean that it's just awesome for this price. Plays every single DVD and even the clumsiest of VCDs that even my PC wouldn't even read. As a test drive, I copied a single .dat video file on a slow CD-RW and this baby played it oh-so-smoothly. In short, being packed with features like built-in picture and sound controls, 32x FF, optical out, 5 disc resume, and DTS render this model a "must-go-for". I got mine from Singapore a month back and my DVD viewing habits have gone from bad to worse eversince.

Summary: Briliant
Review: Brilliant machine. Just bought mine off amazon. Plays all DVDs (both PAL and NTSC).

To play all region DVDs do the following:

Eject DVD, then using remote, press 9, 9, 9, 9, 0 (very slowly). You will change the player to play all DVDs (all regions).

Summary: Nice, but doesn't do DVD-R/-RW
Review: Like most Phillips players, this doesn't play DVD-R or -RW (check the manual, does play DVD+R/+RW). It's time for all manufactuers to move beyond these VHS/Betamax-style conflicts and stop confusing consumers. Give us an all-encompassing player, please. Nice player otherwise.

Summary: Couldn't ask for anything more
Review: I can't imagine asking for anything more than this, unless you're a really serious video/audiophile. I've had no problems with the player, it looks great on my little 19" tube-tv, sounds great channeled through my little shelf stereo system. And from what I've heard, it's a fine compliment to the newest in plasma tv technology and digital surround home theater audio. Sure, for the advertised features you could pay less, but you know what that would mean? A pointless gamble on some lousy Apex, Norcent, or Cyberhome machine when you could wait another week or two, pay $$ or $$ more, and get an inarguably reliable, stable machine that will not be made obselete for some time indeed.

Summary: Great service at Amazon
Review: I bought this DVD payer, but UPS deliver my dvd player with a serios damage. I call amazon, and they said that theres no problem, they gave me a form of UPS by email and I could returd the dvd without problem. Now a have my dvd player, it works perfect. Has a great video resolution, it is very fast, great audio. So, for the price, and the service. This is a great option to buy.
