Summary: Just A Question...
Review: Just one question about the player, this is not a review. I know the specs. say that it plays region-free DVDs, but many of the European DVDs are Region 2. I was just wondering if the player was capable of playing Region 2 DVDs...Anyone that could post an answer, your help would be very much appriciated.

Summary: great so far
Review: This player is great. I've only had it for a week but it plays all of my vcd's and svcd's(some are in pal for whatever reason), cdr's/rw and jpeg picture slideshow. So far the picture/audio is great. No problems so far. A little worried about the few bad reviews of it stopped working upto month 3. But I guess I'll have to wait it out. Could have just been a defective item. It tends to happen a lot with electronics people if you don't know!!!(many defective electronics out there from all different brand names) But I'll let you know in 4 month's time if it still works since I watch many dvd's/svcd's. But for $70CAD it was a great buy. Can't wait to try dvd-r's

Summary: Works fine for me
Review: I've had this player for several months now, and thus far it's been perfect. The progressive scan is great, and the PAL conversion is much better than other players I've had (including proper conversion of anamorphic signals on PAL discs), the region code hack is simple, the five disc resume feature is handy, and it has yet to belch or burp while trying to play any disc I've put in it (unlike previous players I've owned). About my only "complaint" is that, after I sent the registration card in, Philips wanted me to pay $60 for the "extended service plan" on a $70 player. Yeah, right. But no complaints about the player itself, it has done everything I expected and has done it flawlessly...

Summary: A fantastic DVD player
Review: I have the philips dvd726, which is basically the same as the dvd727, but no optical out (it does have coaxical out). The 727 has both of these audio out options.

The blue display is great, it's easy on the eyes. The player reads cdr with mixed media, raw mpg cds (I had one or two mpgs that rolled, but this was maybe out of the 20 I tested). DVD quality is just wonderful too. The mp3 menus are easy to navigate (mp3 long file name would be nice, but for the price I just can't complain). There is a shuffle and repeat option for mp3's--awesome! I have the dvd player hooked up to the altec lansing xa3021 2.1 speaker system for tv/dvd/gaming (only $40 at target). So for a more than fair price I have a low budget, but nice sounding home theatre.

I like the feature that lets you do frame advance (a slow motion fast forward). Also this player has a 5 disc memory recall, so that means for the last 5 movies you've played it remembers where you've left off and bookmarks it, then recalls it next time you put in the disc.

The remote...well, it's pretty easy to use. There is an option to split-up vcds or svcds that do not have menus into moving pic displayed chapters, cool! This version comes with a universal remote, which is even better.

Good player that has alot to offer--and with a low price tag.

Summary: Region & Code Free!!!
Review: I am orgianly from Europe and have a 1 year old daughter. I was looking at several DVD Players, so I could play for her some Children DVD's in our native language as well as other languages.
This is the BEST buy!!! The quality, features and picture are excellent. And the ultimate Bonus, it plays any DVD from anywhere in the world.
Region free hack is simple:
Just open the tray , press 9999 and 0 from the remote with pauses between every digit. You will see Region 0 on the screen and you are all set to play any DVD from any region!!!
You don't even need a special TV. Just connect it and your are set to go.

Summary: defective item
Review: This item quickly stopped working. The quality is very suspect. Perhaps more frustrating was the inability to return the item via the Amazon return procedure. After almost a month, was able to contact Amazon by phone. The "real person" customer care rep was helpful. Finally ordered a Panasonic player at a brick and mortar store. That was very successful and the machine works well.

Summary: Perfect Combo of features
Review: I bought it couple of days back for just $69 frm Amazon and tested almost all the features.
1. Plays all the formats specified in the manual
2. NTSC/PAL color decoding is perfect without distortions
3. Caption feature works fine.So even if your TV cant recognise captions no probs. This player will encode and send with Video signal.
4.Region free hack is simple Just open the tray , press 9999 and 0 frm remote with pauses between every digit. You'll see Region 0 on the screen and you are all set to play any DVD frm any reqion!!!
5.Picture quality is excellent (Its Phillips ofcourse!!!)
6.Remote is lousy(look wise) and hence it looses one star in my rating!!!
Final Note : Great buy for the price....
