Summary: Thank you Samsung for EZ View
Review: For guys like me that regularly watch DVDs on a small screen
(14") television, the EZ View Letterbox elimination option is
a real life saver. EZ View gives me the option of eliminating
letterboxing by expanding the center of the image and cropping
the sides, which is basically how Widescreen (16:9 ratio) movies
are "panned and scanned" to fit into a Fullframe (4:3 ratio)
television screen. This option makes it easier to view the
center of action in movies that don't have a Fullframe version
available. In particular, this feature made it possible to
properly view some of my favorite movies that are only avail-
able in a 2:35 ratio, such as Tora! Tora! Tora!, Zulu and The
Thin Red Line, without the image getting so compressed as to
be unviewable. I thank Samsung for giving us the ability to
make the trade off ourselves between image compression and
cropping off the sides of the movie.

Summary: Great Price, Features & Value
Review: Good entry level player with the quality of high-end models. Crisp, clear picture, excellent color rendering. Change image from widescreen to letterbox to zoom with one click E-Z View. Reliable playback for various media (DVD, CD, MP3 etc). Easy to use, sleek design, unbeatable price.

Summary: Avoid, avoid, avoid...
Review: I actually have an earlier model Samsung DVD player, and it, along with other Samsung models at the time, had a horrible skipping problem on many DVDs. Samsung's support was almost non-existant -- I found out there was a firmware upgrade for the player, but not through their website (where I couldn't find any help whatsoever), but through a friend with the same problem. HOWEVER, the firmware upgrade did not resolve the problem, and the last I heard, there was a class action suit filed here in Pennsylvania (which I received an invitiation to be a part of, but could not participate in, I think because I no longer had the receipt). Considering their lackluster customer support, I would advise anyone against buying any DVD player from this company. Players are much cheaper nowadays anyway, and you can get an excellent Sony or Toshiba for a modest price.

Summary: Great Value
Review: I bought this dvd as a second dvd for a different room. I already had a Panasonic DVD-S27, which cost about $20.00 more.
The Samsung works equally well and read commercial movies, DVD-R, JPEG, and comercial music CDs files very well. I didn't test it for any other formats but I assume that it would work for the other formats.
I am completely happy with it and feel that there is no need to pay the extra $20.00 for Panasonic or Sony.

Summary: Locks up on mp3 discs
Review: I bought this player from Best Buy. I tested DVDs, CDs, music CD-Rs, and mp3 CD-Rs. All worked fine initially. Two days later preparing for a Christmas Party, the player locked up after inserting the mp3 CD-Rs. The player normally shows a screen where you can see the folders and files. It locked on the background for this screen. I had to disconnet the power cord to the unit, and re-connect in order to retrieve the disc. The other types of media still play fine. I will be returning the unit for a different model/brand.

Summary: Horrible Product!
Review: I bought this unit, took it home, connected it and started to play a rented version of Master and Commander and the screen kept going blue on me! At first I thought it was the disc so I returned the disc to where I rented it and got another. Same problem! Then I tried another disc that I KNOW is good and it came up fine! I'm not sure what the problem is since it only seems to mess up with rented DVDs but still, I would expect a little better quality even though it was only $60. I'll be returning the unit tomorrow.

Review: I got this dvd player for my mother as a Christmas gift. She played one movie on it, and after that, it never worked again. Completely dead. I will be returning it for another make and model. Stay away!!!

Summary: GOOD, INEXPENSIVE DVD PLAYER
Review: i was looking for a good, but cheap DVD player that i could use in my young son's room. There are a lot of no-name DVD players out there for a bit cheaper price but I guess I am still leery of buying anything with a name I don't recognize.

This Samsung player seems to be just the ticket. It's got a few more bells and whistles than you'd think in a player for around $50 bucks indlucing the EZ view letter box eliminator for small screen TVs, distortion reduction, and can play MP3's and Kodak picture CDs.

But I mainly got it because it's easy to use and cheap so if my young one does anything to it it's easily replaceable. Not a machine for your high-end TV but certainly capable of doing the job.
