Summary: The best animated story I've seen.
Review: Over the years, I've watched many cartoons over the years. I have two children and along with them I've watched this movie about 10 times in a week and still interested in making it part of my collection. It has all my favorited combined within it. There's comedy, romance, drama etc....... Everyone should love this one. I look forward to watching more movies like this in the future, there's a little shreck inside every one..

Summary: Shrek 2-Disc Special Edition DVD
Review: "Shrek" was really a big surpise for me in theatres. I really had no interest in seeing the film, until the good reviews poured in. I went to go see it, and it turned out to be a perfect combination of wonderful animation, terrific vioce-overs, comic brilliance, and a creative story.

While the film offers animation that puts everything from Pixar to shame, the thing that shines through the most in this production is the cast, most notably Eddie Murphy as Donkey. Mike Myers was hilarious as Shrek, but the accent couldn't make me stop picturing his Fat ... character from "Austin Powers II".

The DVD presents a fine presentation of the film, better then it was in theatres. While it is one of the top 3 DVDs of the year, there is some room for improvement. When it was announced that 'Shrek' would contain 11 hours of extra's, I wanted to label it right away the best DVD of 2001. I'm glad I didn't. The behind the scenes doc, audio commentary, and a few other extras (including great menus) do give big points to the Discs, but the rest of the 11 hours seem to be games, or other extra that do not provide insight to the movie and where just placed there to take up remaining room.

All and all, "Shrek" still remains as one of the top 3 Must buy DVDs of the year!

Summary: it didn't enchant me
Review: i realize that millions of people love this movie, but i really didn't like it. i found it to be painfully self-aware and distressingly heavy on cynical, post-modern "cleverness". and, frankly, i wasn't that impressed by the animation. sure, there were some funny bits here and there, but on the whole i found the film to be annoying and off-putting. i'm sure this puts me in a very small minority, but i guess it just goes to show that you can't please everyone...

Summary: Best DVD I've ever seen!
Review: I love this movie! Shrek is kinda gruff, but he's nice, too. Donkey is so annoying, he's funny! Princess Fiona is a tough person. Lord Farquaad is so STUPID! I hate him! Okay, let me tell ya'll a little about the movie. Shrek is a disgusting ogre who hangs rats on the walls of his inside of a tree house. He meets an annoying Donkey that begs to stay with him. During supper, Shrek's swamp is filled with fairy tale creatures. Shrek goes to L.F. and agrees to go on a quest to get his swamp back. Guarded by a fire-breathing dragon, Shrek and Donkey take the risk and go inside to get the woman inside. Shrek grabs the dragon's tail, and is thrown up to the highest room of the tallest tower where he finds the person he is looking for. Meanwhile, the dragon is fiercly attracted to Donkey (don't ask me why!) who is "not ready to go into a physical relationship yet". Now I'm gonna skip forward. During the wedding of L.F. and the woman, Shrek runs in. The woman and her husband's wedding coach is an onion. Plus, the special features are awesome! There's music videos, games, a "Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke Dance Party", bios and interviews with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz. For John Lithgow, there's only a bio. There's also deleted scenes, bloopers and a ton of more awesome stuff. You're crazy if you don't totally love this movie.

Summary: Shrek
Review: Shrek was the best movie I had ever seen. I would reccomend it to any age child even if you have overprotective parents. It does have cuss words and gross stuff like farting, belching, love, and fighting (just karate) but those things didn't make me change my mind. It was funny and adventure/survival and keeping a secret that could change ones life forever. I am almost 13 and Shrek is my favorite movie.

Summary: Maybe it's just me, but...
Review: It's pretty hard to swallow a message about the meaning of true beauty when it comes from Hollywood types, but the cherry on top for me was that the "ugly" princess was also chubbier than the "beautiful" princess. AND the donkey, upon first seeing her, makes a joke about whether the ugly/fat princess has eaten the beautiful/thin one. Whatever beauty myths this movie was trying to explore, this was a blind spot.

Summary: A Marvelous Production
Review: Definitely a 5 star production! Appeals to all ages. A definite must for the family's entertainment collection! (When I took my family to see this film at the theatre, our ages ranged from 68 to 7 years old.) It was like a trip to an amusement park but even more amusing. This work of art is hilarious! I didn't know a thing about the story and was pleasantly surprised & enthralled with the magic. Creativity aand then some! The ending will have you rolling off the seat laughing! Shrek is so thoroughly entertaining, it's a most worthy of your time & money.

Summary: NOT for families - unless you like crude and tasteless films
Review: I saw this in the theatre and was very dissapointed. The "jokes" are crude, the voice acting abysmal (except, surprisingly, eddie murphy who also did a voice in disney's mulan), and the story. . .well there really isn't much of a story. I should have let the fact that Mike Myers was involved set off alarms because he is the same actor that is involved in other crude movies. Stick with "monsters, inc." and "harry potter" -- films that not only are perfect for all ages but are positive and don't focus on belching or causing animals to explode or focus jokes below the belt. My hope is that the commercial success of this film doesn't cause another of the same type to be released (even though I think they are making a sequel to this).
