Summary: Grand adventure worthy of Spielberg and Lucas
Review: Most of the anime imported here from Japan caters to the stereotypical American fanboy audience (i.e. teenage boys and college students), and such most of it is ridden with your typical anime cliches: robots, demons, samurai, and women. But Hayao Miyazaki's animated films are different. He's been heavily influenced by classic Hollywood films (there are subtle references in all of his movies, in one way or another), and his movies are great fun for the whole family. I consider "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" his crowning achievement - it's a fantastic fantasy adventure that ranks right up there with "Star Wars" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark." It has magical islands and robots ands flying sky fortresses and spells and pirates and sinister power-mad villains...and it all comes together in a story that hints at Gulliver's Travels, with more cliffhangers than you can shake a stick at. Grand, glorious entertainment -- this is easily my favorite anime, and one of the finest animated films of all.

Summary: Most Admired and Adored Miyazaki Film
Review: Laputa, Castle in the Sky, is the most creative, ambitious, and adventurous Miyazaki film I have ever seen. I like Miyazaki's work very much for its grandeur, originality, and imagination. Sadly to say that Disney has lost its creative edge. It has been copying stories all over the world. Disney promised to release the Castle in the Sky video in 1999 but they failed to keep their promise. (Disney, please include the original Japanese soundtrack on the US release because I don't like the English voice actor behind Pasu.)After 16 years since Castle in the Sky was first released in the theatres, I still consider it the creme da la creme of all anime movies. Certainly Laputa's art direction cannot compare to today's S/B CGI and S/B 3D animation. However, the story is much more fascinating and breathtaking than KiKi Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, and even Princess Mononoke. Princess Mononoke is a graphically stunning piece of art but Castle in the Sky is a wonderful story of courage and determination. While there are a few graphically violent scenes in Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky is packed with action without graphic violence. I considered myself fortunate to be able to see it on the big screen (the original English version.) Castle in the Sky is a grand movie that deserves the big screen. I love the soundtrack of the movie very much. It is very uplifting and motivating. The title song, Carrying You, communicates the same kind of warmheartedness that permeates throughout all of Miyazaki's films.

Review: I have seen both the English dubbed version (the better version) and the subtitled version of the film and i thought the film was excelent. Best film i have ever seen. I grew up watching Laputa Castle in the Sky. I would love to see this film on DVD (English 1989 dubbed version). People think that dubbed films are rubbish and not worth watching i would agree with normal films but not with anime films. The English writers go out of there way to make up words that will go in lip sink with the characters mouths and still make sense most of the time you can hardly tell that the characters where speaking Japanise at one point. Also the good thing about dubbing is it gives you time to look at the film and not just reading the subtitles all the time.
I really hope that disney will have the sense to put this excelent film on DVD so it can be imortalised forever!!!

Summary: Laputa - Castle in the Sky
Review: Having seen this masterpiece recently in the cinema, I left breathless with the mindnumbing animation and storyline. I was impressed with the animation techniques used, and Miyazaki's enjoyment of flying machines. Sporting a quirkily funny, yet epic storyline, we follow the adventures of Sheeta and Pazu, two lost orphans, as they go on their quest to find Laputa, the Castle in the Sky (as was described in Gulliver's Travels). Considering that the film is nearly over 17 years old, it still never ceases to amaze me how ahead of his time Miyazaki was, especially in his animation and his understanding of human flaws. The tenacity and love of the human spirit are captured perfectly in his films. The magic of Miyazaki is an inspiration to us all, and I hope that his films will be viewed in the years to come, and inspire many more generations of children and parents alike. Bravo to the magic makers in Studio Ghibli.

Summary: Castle in the Sky deserves DVD, Disney!
Review: One of the best animated movies I have ever seen, I have anxiously awaited its release in English ever since I saw the trailer on the Kiki's Delivery Service video. I earnestly hope Disney will release this movie on DVD and give many others the chance to see this wonderful action/adventure family movie.

Review: Last night I finally got round to watching an old VHS fansub of this movie. I don't why it took me so long as this film has instantly become one of my all time favourites. How long must I wait for a DVD version? Come on disney release this film! Get those other Ghibli's out too!

Summary: We want a 5.1 ch mix please!
Review: I recently saw this movie on the big screen at a Ghibli festival in London. Absoloutley superb i can't even describe what it was like to watch this in a packed cinema, spell binding.
What i did notice though was that the audio on this film was a lot better than the other ghibli films i saw, im pritty sure it was 5.1. So unless disney decide to do a lazy transfer there should be n reason why we dont get an anamorphic transfer with a Dolby Digital 5.1 track (DTS would be pushing it ;)....

Review: This is one of the best action/adventure/science fiction films I have ever seen. If only Disney would release it, and the other Studio Ghibli masterpieces world-wide, more people could enjoy this magical movie.

Summary: Stunning anime from a master
Review: The music, the wonderful Jules Verne machines, the Welsh colliery backgrounds, the enchanting heroine and hero, and the Really Nasty Villain come together to make this one of my favourite anime. Miyazaki's sense of fun doesn't stand in the way of his ability to convey a sense of wonder, and the two combine with great story-telling to make this a charming movie.

Summary: We Need These DVDs in the US
Review: Castle in the Sky, Naussica, The Crimson Pig, and all the other Miyazaki animations that I've seen are EXCELLENT. Unfortunately, most of what I've seen are fan-dubbed and shown on the access channel. I think its a CRIME that more of these titles are not available to us in the U.S., we are being denied an art form at its highest. Whoever is in power, make these videos available to us ... I would gladly buy all offered, and I'm a typical consumer ... there will be a market for these products. Geesh, if they can put something as wretched as the animation "Lord of the Rings" or "The King and I" out, why not something marvelous, too?
